MickD reacted to Caerphilly Ram in v Charlton Athletic (H) Match Day Thread
The only way it’s gonna change now is if those who feel so strongly opposed to Warne stage some sort of protest, but they won’t, so there has to be an element of accepting that he’s the manager.
By all means we can discuss his performance but for anyone thinking he’s going anywhere in the short term I suspect you’ll be disappointed.

Sack him for the love of God.
If we want another season in league 1 (and perhaps many more) let's stick with him. If we want out in what is a very easy year, sack him.

I brushed off the mistake Wildsmith made at Oxford as a one off but for him to do the exact same but even worse as players were back is criminal. Is it worth it now to drop him for Loach even until Vickers comes back?

Personally,I'll be quite happy with barks at CF for a few games...it's his preferred role and he seems to be coming into form now he's had a few games....
After that,we should have waggy and wash back too and to be honest,I'd prefer waggy over Collins anyway (he doesn't run around as much but that's an attribute not a negative)

In fairness he has hardly received a pass in the games he has played so far. No doubt at Charlton he was used to seeing plenty of the ball. We need to use him as much as we pass the ball to NML.

I am not worried personally.
I don’t think we have yet seen anywhere close to what CBT can do and can bring to the table. If he is perhaps not fit and perhaps not totally adjusted, he will likely play within himself as many others would.
The biggest thing I saw on Tuesday and v Reading is it being a case of CBT and the rest of the team having to build up an understanding of how they can help one another.
Look at goals two and three on Tuesday. NML was on to Bird’s pass in a flash because they have a good understanding. Similarly Barkhuizen knew exactly where to be to support NML on the breakaway for the third goal. They have been teammates for almost two years, not four weeks.
I think there was one brief moment on Tuesday where CBT and the team looked on the same wavelength. NML as I recall tried to send him clear into space but didn’t get enough purchase on the pass and it was cut out. If we get CBT in those positions more often, we’ll see his threat.
Everyone is raving about Adams and rightly so, but equally he’s only had three games and I feel it is much easier to impact the game as an all-action midfielder in a counter-attacking side that do a lot of defending and spend a lot of time out of possession than a winger who relies on receiving the ball in areas where he can affect the game.
For much of that first half, CBT didn’t receive the ball and when he did, it was in areas where he was crowded out.

CBT was apparently a target last summer but we didn’t have room in the budget to complete the deal without selling someone first.
He has played the equivalent of 1.5 games so far, it’s way too soon to judge.

Sometimes, I wonder why I bother on here.
The pig-ignorant, self-entitled, frankly stupid guff that gets smashed out by some folks is beyond a joke.

MickD reacted to Jourdan in When life gives you lemons
Yes, we had all of January to sign a striker and no doubt we tried for the entire month to secure a deal.
But it is not straightforward. Clearly we want players who will add something to the squad and we want someone who will improve us in some way. It’s not a case of taking absolutely anyone.
Better players are usually more difficult to sign, and clubs and even players will use whatever tactic they can to get the best deal and move possible. Moves you think are close often break down because of this.
If Collins is out for any length of time, it’s just really unfortunate.

Got what they deserved?
You make it sound like Warne and the team didn’t want a striker and were happy with the outcome?
There’s a difference between what we wanted and what we got and clearly Warne had to suck it up and accept the situation for what it was.

And what would that be? He did try to get a back up CF but the club rightly were not prepared to pay stupid money to the Wendies.

MickD reacted to inter politics in When life gives you lemons
Yep, it was obvious so if he is seriously injured, Warne and co have got what they deserved.

I reckon one of the reasons people have had it in for James Collins is that last season, and the first part of this on, despite lumping the ball across the area being our only game plan, and despite us only playing one striker, Collins was regularly not in the area, especially the 6-yard box, often being found out on the wing. Post Stevenage, when we went on that improved run he started being in the right place at the right time more often which has really helped his game, and it coincided with his increased scoring rate. He still goes foraging out on the wing, but that tends to be when we are in build-up stage. Whether it is because the team began playing through the middle a bit more, and put more crosses in at ground or waist level I don't know, but kudos to him because his football has improved greatly. And the reward is that he is no longer the target of our blame, and is instead becoming much more of a favourite. Good for him!

I have no idea why people don't rate/like him. If we'd brought back Chris Martin in the summer, and had the exact same output fans would be creaming all over themselves, saying how good he's been. I reckon it's just a case of his face not fitting.
I for one love the lad, he's everything you want in a League 1 striker.

I too have warmed to him and boy does he run his socks off. When he went down clutching his knee and players were gesturing to the bench I thought he was done for. But he dusted himself down and made a Lazarus like recovery and was even sprinting around like a man possessed in the 95th minute. Strikes me just like Cash and Nelson and now Adams he’s one that will get stuck in. Is he out of contract in the summer?

What I like about him is the fact that he gives everything and scores goals.
i don’t expect anything more than that from a centre forward in Division 1.

I've found plenty of things to criticise over Warne's tenure. Collins has never been one of them. He's put the graft in and scores goals. I've no idea why a section of our fanbases doesn't get behind him.

Regardless of what happens this season, there is no doubt in my mind that Rosenior had the potential to take us much further than Warne ever will. It was a colossal mistake to get rid of him, which is why many people will not let it go.
If Warne takes us into European football then I will absolutely return to this thread and admit I was wrong.

It’s odd, we’re second top scorers in the league, joint fewest goals conceded, most away wins, in the automatic places yet it doesn’t feel like we’ve played well all season nor is there much optimism

MickD reacted to uttoxram75 in James Collins
Absolutely gutted for the lad. Gave his all for us every game even when it wasn't going for him.
-
MickD reacted to Caerphilly Ram in James Collins
Genuinely gutted for Collins, he’s played his backside off within the limits of his talents all season, scored some important goals, and looked to be on for a 20 goal season as a minimum. I hope he recovers and feel like we should extend his contract regardless of league next season, he’ll do a job for us alongside whatever shiny new strikers we sign in the summer.

After today, how many of his detractors will now realise how much Collins contributed to our play.
He will be sorely missed.

MickD reacted to Kernow in James Collins
Gutted for him. I think if we avoid the play-offs, then that’s probably his last game for us gone.
It’s a real shame. I think he would’ve had a real shout at POTS if we got automatic promotion. Being the only fit striker for a vast majority of the season, and still put in endless effort with a positive outcome, he would have been a worthy winner.
