And McGoldrick shooting straight at the keeper after his solo attempt where he won the ball at the touchline, tricked his way into the box turning and twisting until all he had to do was beat the keeper..... arguably the easiest part of what he did.
Barkhauzen did what you expect in that situation and hit it to the far post, he was quite narrow.
Realistically one of those 2 attempts should have resulted in a goal, but currently that is our 1 single problem, scoring a higher ratio of attempts created, which includes our 1 player that does score regularly.
Agree it is a confidence issue, same with NML, Dobbin and Collins, but agree Barkhauzen has looked like he has no conviction in front of goal for a while, just need 1 to go in.

You're kidding, except for his dwelling on the ball once 1st half he absolutely marshalled the defence. The reason they stand firm is he is directing them, as does Hourihane, really well.

Although i  have lived in Derbyshire for all of my adult life and I am a rams supporter I was born and brought up in Burton and I have a huge fondest for the place, I was born in a nursing home between the breweries and the marmite factory and I have always associated the 'smell' with home. My family still live nearby and though my first team is Derby I maintain an interest and a pride in the brewers. I look after my mum and I travel through Burton 4 days a week. It may well be looking run down at present, but show me a town centre which isn't. It's my home town and seeing it sneered at on this thread makes me sad. It isn't a joke at all and this negativity is nasty.

Warne has shown he’s very adaptable which is a good thing. .
Sibley has energy and Bird is just getting back to full fitness.
Always liked the the Irish lads .
    What a difference a day makes .
    Didzy is something else.

was at the game , fans were absolutely superb , im sure our support dragged our lads over the finish line, a good away display and there were signs second half that we were getting some of our confidence and swagger back. Big shouts out for Conor, Didzy, of course and Birdy , who looks back to his old self, i want to give a special mention for Curtis Davies , an absolute giant at the back last night , especially after they scored.
Now for two massive fixtures at PP lets get those noise levels at fever pitch for the lads , together we can do it   COYR

I think Warne should stick with Sibley from the start against Burton, he played a solid if unspectacular part in last night’s win and carries a number of attributes we need in the side. Let him build a run of games.
Despite your laughing emoji last night Roy (😘) I do think Dobbin’s pace is an asset to have from the bench and keep’s opposition defences honest, especially if they’re chasing the game and we need an outlet/the ability to counter and get higher up the pitch.
I’d arguably start the same side on Saturday if I was in Warne’s position and use the subs to manage the game better than he typically does.

I really enjoy hearing Bird speak, I think he has a real maturity for someone who is still relatively young in both a footballing and broader social sense. I always assume his sad life experiences related to his father passing must play some part in that, credit to the young man.

Sorry but you don't speak for me here, I certainly didn't enjoy it.
As a football fan I pay to be entertained at matches, not watching time wasting and grown men rolling around pretending to be hurt.
Its really beginning to spoil my enjoyment of matches.
I know there's the argument of 'everyone else is doing it so why shouldn't we', that's how it started when foreigners introduced diving into our game too and look how bad that has got.
We've regularly called out players for cheating this season so it would be hypocritical not to do the same when its our players doing it.

Was reassuring to have Fozzie and Curtis at the back. Overall I think we benefit having their experience on the pitch. Hope Curtis has an ice bath before getting on the coach

Also hope PW continues with Sibley playing high. He didn’t have a great game but he needs a proper chance and I think he could score some vital goals in the next 3 games

A really good result & a really good performance - the most unexpected league result of the season so far for me.
The tone was set with the line up - the decision to go with Knight & Roberts as wingbacks gave the side much better balance & playing Mendez-Laing off McGoldrick gave the attacking side much needed variation & pace. I was a bit surprised by the negative reaction to the first half on here - aside from a dodgy 10 mins around the 20 minute mark, I thought we had control of the game albeit we were moving the ball around too slowly to hurt them & were too deep at times. We did look comfortable in the main though & fashioned some decent half chances, most notably Knight (who played well at RWB) & Sibley.
Second half our attitude & work-rate were excellent though. Got on the front foot right from the kick off & our intensity surprised them - they barely got into the game that first 30 mins after half-time. I really liked the interplay between Mendez-Laing, McGoldrick & Sibley & think that's a promising attacking unit we should be fielding again. Also thought Hourihane was very good, both defensively & with his forward passing/crosses.
Two fantastic goals from McGoldrick - funnily enough he had been quiet first half but his quality thereafter showed just how lucky we are to have him. Second goal in particular - such a delicate touch from Mendez-Laing's pass to make the space for the finish. Wonderful. It was such a shame that we had an absolute brainfart a couple of minutes later to gift them a goal - no idea what Wildsmith was trying to do but it was totally undeserved for an Exeter side that had been chasing shadows since the break. Fortunately we managed the game really well to the conclusion & the subs were well chosen & well timed - Collins and Dobbin to chase their defenders down and Smith to add another body to the midfield.
I'm a lot more enthused after that. Same line up & intensity for Saturday please. Well done Derby & yes, well done Paul Warne 👏

This win is huge!! Massive!! More importantly it is 100% deserved!! This was an excellent performance, best we’ve played away for ages. Ok first half, controlled. Second half we went for the jugular, scored two great goals, could’ve scored more, a goalkeeping error made it more nervy than it needed to be although he’s made two unbelievable saves in this match. Closed it out well in the end and Dobbin should’ve made it 3.

Performances, Didzy is a genius but the midfield were excellent second half, the back 3 were awesome, I thought Davies was done but he was mega tonight. Mendez looked like he had some swagger back, Sibley always a threat. Can’t really fault anyone. Still can’t get over the Wildsmith save first half, huge moment.
It’s one game. We MUST back it up but this team tonight showed that if we get in the playoffs (I believe we will now) we can be a real danger and we have a good chance. We’ve also shown that if Didzy gets injured we’re screwed, but we know we have a small squad.
Also, “Warneball”, just what is that? It must be fluid attacking football because tonight I saw hardly any long ball, only fluid attacking play especially in the second half.  He deserves huge credit tonight he really does. He rolled the dice with the team selection and it worked, his tactics were absolutely spot on and playing football like that second half I can’t understand how anyone could think that’s dour one dimensional football.
Also those who went enjoy the journey home or your night out in Exeter. You deserve it!!!

What can be said is that Warne is trying very hard to find some kind of system that’s gets a decent tune out of players we have available

For sure. Warne seemed to be cooking up a lovely stew for a while, then he ran out of the chicken (Bird) and it became a bit of an Irish Stew with Knight, Hourihane, Collins and McGoldrick in there….I’ve lost the analogy I was building on top of yours, sorry! 😆
I share the frustrations with how Warne has utilised the squad at times, I’m just a bit more objective in how it makes me feel overall I guess. I can see what he’s trying to do at times, and I’m baffled by what he’s doing at others. There are points this season when he’s got it right, there are times he’s got it very very wrong. I’m sort of sat on the fence a bit about the whole thing, still Warne in and want him to have time, but growing concerns about his tactical stubbornness/limitations.

Perhaps “dominating the league” was a poor choice of words.
I was looking to articulate my own view that the squad’s limitations, along with Warne’s approach at times, and other factors are the reasons I feel we haven’t got those one or two extra points.
Lots of people pointing the finger at Warne and the current bad run, I feel it’s a bigger picture than that. The standard 46 game season started back in July with that game against Oxford and ends away to Sheff Weds on 7th May. I feel we can blame the current run for not being secure in the play off positions as much as we can blame not winning away at Shrewsbury or Fleetwood in August, somehow failing to score at Charlton and losing to a sucker punch etc.
As I keep stating, I’m not absolving Warne of blame, it’s a collective responsibility of Warne, Rosenior, the various coaches and players throughout the season to accumulate points, we’ve done that at stages and failed to at others, the squad limitations are a big factor in that for me. As is Warne’s game management of late. I simply don’t think it’s one specific problem.

That's a fair question, Roy - and one I can't provide statistical evidence to address.  And you may be right about the right manager will succeed but the keywords in your comment are "with the right squad".  Have we got the right squad?  I don't claim to know the answer, but my gut-feel is no.  Not just in terms of the "it's not his squad" argument, but more in terms of their attributes for this league.  There are plenty on here who can provide chapter and verse on age range, depth, etc. but the bottom line is we seem to be flagging and I question whether anyone could get this group of old and young heads to get out of this league any quicker.  A rhetorical question,  as we'll never know.  Our track record - at least in my lifetime of 63 years - of hiring and firing is, imho, not good.   Don't get me wrong, I get seriously frustrated with our apparent capitulations in second halves, but that doesn't mean I believe we have the wrong guy in the hot-seat - at least not yet.
