  1. It worked at Rotherham, he promoted them from league one, 3 times.

I think Rotherham were relegated, because its not enough to be promoted, you actually a very decent transfer budget to bring in enough quality to achieve something.

If I have a concern its, what happens if dcfc are promoted this season, since the club will not have a transfer budget next season either, due to efl restrictions

In the Championship the unfairness remains the multi million pound parachute payments, to clubs relegated from the Premier league. This doesn't level the playing field.

Those payments are over several years on a sliding scale.

What's needed is the requirement to only be allowed to spend a certain % of revenue or another financial limit.

This was tried previously in leagues one and two, but the clubs threw that rule out through mass protest.

Pw can be a really gifted manager, but without a transfer budget, or a transfer budget big enough to challenge for promotion from the Championship, once we get there.

If we got promoted this season, we wouldn't have a transfer budget next season.

If we make the play offs this season, and don't get promoted, isn't that something that lr might have achieved.

  2. https://offsiderulepodcast.com/2015/02/04/head-coach-vs-manager-an-unnecessary-trend/#:~:text=A manager has complete control,by dealing with the rest.

A manager has complete control over his staff, transfers and player contracts unless, of course, they’re working under a meddling owner. While a head coach just trains and picks the team, with the owner or director of football taking the pressure off them by dealing with the rest.

Pochettino has explained: “If you are the manager, you decide many things about the club. But if you are a head coach, your responsibility is to play better, try to improve the players and to get positive results.

“At Southampton, I was a manager. My responsibility was not only to coach the team. With Tottenham, I am a head coach.  A head coach is head of your department. My department is to train the team.”

A head coach benefits from being able to concentrate solely on the team but the downside is, when results don’t go their way, they can turn the tables and protest,  “Well, I didn’t sign these players and I didn’t have the right backroom staff.”

  3. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/efl-manager-makes-paul-warne-claim-following-derby-county-switch-from-rotherham-united/

"The Millers could have collapsed this term with Michael Ihiekwe and Michael Smith both deciding to leave the club in the summer – but they have done exceptionally well with the players they have at their disposal.

Some would argue they are lucky to have someone like Chiedozie Ogbene in their team – but they are still up against it this term considering the quality of many of their rivals in this league and the fact the likes of Sunderland and Wigan Athletic have made a good start."

I think pw wasn't happy those players were sold, and might not be happy that ogbene, might be moving on, perhaps in January.

With pw bring his team with him, where does leave lr.

Especially as pw is bringing his assistant manager from Rotherham.

    I found this interesting.

it tells me that pw knows how to put together a great defensive set up.

His favourite formation is 352 but he will change tactics during games, when he needs to.

The current Derby team isn't as good as the team he had at Rotherham.

Rotherham 3 top strikers last season.

    Michael Smith 18 goals

    Freddie ladapo 11 goals

    Daniel Barlaser (midfielder) 10 goals

During the summer pw lost his best players, as Smith (to sheffield wednesday) and ladapo (to ipswich) left Rotherham, both on free transfers.

I’m very relaxed about Warne if it is him .

I think it’s too early for Liam as Number 1.
I hope he stays though .

Top Strikers are a very important commodity in football I agree .

I think the top strikers evident via looking at the top strikers in League one last season, looking at players who scored at least 16 goals in a season and comparing that with the top 5 teams in League one last season.

For me warnes, been a yoyo manager bouncing around between League one and the championship. Only this season is he doing OK in 8th place. The other seasons in the Championship, Rotherham finished by relegation plus he had a transfer budget throughout those seasons.

Given his current form hiw can you say that we would be barely hitting playoffs we should be looking for automatic promotion teams have already worked us out, i would love to see LR stay on at the club but just feel like he will never make a manager just always be a very good number 2 just like stevie mac

I think lr will proof derby wrong, as he will be a manager at another club.

Will be interesting to see if that happens, in my opinion hes done the best he could, with a team of free agents.

Free agent by definition means, a player another team doesn't want, often through by being older players or simply not good enough. If you have a transfer budget, is your team, largely staffed with free agents.

Lr brought in some quality free agents, who under his leadership, have largely worked out. They've bonded as a team in record time.

Warnes had a transfer budget at Rotherham, I think a decent size transfer budget?

You do know we haven’t  scored an away goal in League 1 this season in 4 games in which we got 2 points

In the summer I wanted to sign a top striker, however, that wasn't possible given how late we came to a position where we could start signing free agents and also because we are blocked from making actual transfers for what 2 years?

For me a top striker in League one, is someone capable of scoring at least 18 goals in the season.

Sorry but WTAF! is wrong with our club and the people who run it/own it?

    Rotherham's manager!! Rotherham!!!

Liam Rosenior has spent the summer assembling a very decent squad in L1 or indeed the Championship.

And we sit essentially in the play-offs, and with not even 10 games played he's moved aside(unless he doesn't want the gig?)

Utterly ridiculous. I could maybe... just maybe...? understand if Arsene Wenger or some other managerial legend was making a come back?

But a guy who bounces his team between L1 and the Championship. Madness!!

However I suppose that after 50+ years supporting this great club I shouldn't expect anything different!

I largely agree with you, however, last lesson he promoted rotherham from league one. He has recent success in getting a team promoted, Rotherham had a strong team last season.

Warnes bouncing around between leagues hasn't been that great.

Is he worth the very high salary I'm assuming derby will pay him, something close to rooney salary to get him to manage derby?

I think lr has been treated unfairly, but it's not my millions that bailed out derby from near bankruptcy.

So from your tone you don't believe that Warne is taking the job?

From the press reports I've read, it's a done deal...so this post seems a bit out of step with the current situation otherwise?

Once its confirmed on the BBC, I will accept that view.

For now here's a reminder of warnes accomplishments.

Warne manages the Millers who are in eighth place in the Championship after six eventful years in charge during which time he has three times led them out of the third tier and three times taken them back down.

  10. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/paul-warne-link-huddersfield-town-25074921.amp

Warne dennies interest in championship club Huddersfield job, so why would he be interested in Derby, given our current position, in League one.

The press, have selected a target, given that they have heard a rumour that lr, has been removed from his management duties at Derby.

I've previously gone on record saying that I didn't think that lr was the right man for the job, but he surprised me by winning the last game and he did so by doing something that I wanted him to do. He changed tactics during the game and he won that game.

A great manager in my opinion, is an adaptable one, who learns from his mistakes.

Half way through the summer we didn't have a team that would qualify to play in the league, 10+ players later and given no transfer budget, we are in a different position.

It takes time for thar many players to work together well as a team, and yet through lr leadership, they have.

I believe that under lr's management, we would win the next two games, taking us back in to the higher end of the play off positions.

I see us finishing the season in the play off positions.

Sheffield wednesday, Ipswich and Portsmouth remain the 3 clubs in my opinion who are most likely to be in the automatic promotion places.

We are not guaranteed to sign a better manager than lr.

I think that lr will only get better with time.

If a better manager was ready to sign a contract at the club, then maybe, but who is that better manager.

If lr has a better offer from another club, then that's different again, and I'd call the club foolish for not offering the perm role to lr sooner.

I think that lr should be the manager on a perm basis, given his current form. I would however, like to see him given an experienced older experienced manager as a deputy, to help guide him.

  11. If theres a two year transfer embargo, how then is the current squad strong enough to stay in the Championship next season, if the clubs promoted.

I think for that the club has to seek more than just free agents, but can't because its not allowed to pay for transfers.

The team didn't exist half way through the summer and now is expected to out perform, ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday?

Sheffield wednesday and Ipswich had established teams before they strengthened in the summer. They have transfer budgets.

They have both previously been in the Premier league and championship.

Warnes doing well in the Championship, given that he's managing Rotherham.

we didnt play it in the first half at all ...

I was worried lr wouldn't change tactics if things weren't working, he surprised me and changed the tactic and got the result.

We were playing g 4231 to often and other managers knew how to beat that.

I'm hoping that ipswich stay with 3421 because that helps teams to know the best tactics to win against that. So far ipswich have just kept to thar one formation.

Arsenal wenger became predictable at arsenal by largely playing 4231.

I like 352, but it leaves the defense exposed.

  13. I like the Antonio conte formation of 3421  adopted by ipswich, its a tough formation to beat, but with right tactics it's possible to beat it.

I like 343 against that formation, giving the extra man in midfield.

  14. The 3-5-2's counterattack vulnerability divides observers.

If you can penetrate the heavy midfield, you'll be 2-on-3 with the defenders.

The three-man back line must cover a much larger area, especially on the sidelines.

Attackers can easily circumvent the defence.

In 3-5-2, the wingbacks had no defensive duties.

The term "wingback" is a misnomer for the 3-5-2's primary purpose.

The formation is a 3-3-4 in attack.

    This overloads the opponent's defence.

This improves possession in the attacking phase of the game because passing options are increased and the defence is stretched to mark all the players.

Attacking players can overlap vertically and horizontally for more passing options.

There's a reason it's not used a lot by the top premier league sides.

I think Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is a winger and is doing just fine there mate .

I didn’t like Dobbin on the wing at Lincoln (and he could play the main striker role  )and I certainly didn’t like Knight at RB .( He is a midfielder IMO )

Yesterday against Wycombe the team looked better balanced and I think Liam is to be praised for changing the formation and it’s good to play in different ways as to make the opposition think !

We need to be a team that is solid at the back with a midfield that is also solid and it was brilliant to see the Irish lads flourish.

Collins was good when he came on and the whole team started functioning.

I am worried about Max at the minute he seems to have lost confidence but I’m sure he will be back to his best if Liam gets the team balance  right .

I could have posted this in lots of threads .

Up the Rams the future looks bright .

PS Liam Rosenior has restored my faith in him .

He proved yesterday he’s flexible and adaptable.

I was pleased that lr was advised its best not to play knight in the defense position.

We have the players to play 442 and play it well - sure we are a bit weak at right back but hey oh

                                  Wildsmith

    Onurah       Davies.           Cashin     Forsyth

    NML            Knight.           Smith.      Barkhauzen
                            Collins  McGoldrick

players like Sibley and Dobbin can drop in for MG whilst Bird and Hourihane can step in when the time is right whilst Rooney looks good enough to step in anywhere from right back central defence or central midfield.
that’s a very experienced and no longer slow side.

    I don't like 442.

It's a demanding formation that requires discipline and hard work all over the pitch.

First, wide midfielders must be able to mount quick counterattacks and carry the ball quickly, but they also must track back and protect their full-backs.

The defensive central midfielder needs discipline and skill because he's often outnumbered in key areas.

Box-to-box midfielders need a lot of energy and stamina, and forwards must be able to press hard, hold the ball, and bring midfielders into play.

There are no passengers in 4-4-2.

4-4-2 can make it difficult for teams to maintain game control, especially when it comes to dominating possession.

They must often surrender the ball to the opposition for long stretches of the game, waiting for the right moment to pounce.

So much defensiveness can frustrate and stifle creative midfielders who would rather dominate the ball higher up.

The biggest weakness of this formation is that it can be overrun in midfield.

When 2 central midfielders face a 3-man midfield, it can be hard to win the central battle and stop easy passing.

If you want to dominate in midfield, this system isn't going to work.

  17. For now I hope we can become less readable as a team by using 4231.

I hope that if we are 2-0 up we can adapt to keep the lead.

I have yet to see rosenoir as the manager who can deliver that.

  18. Great managers can alter their tactics based on the opponent's style of play, how the match is going, and what the team needs to do to score or preserve a lead.

A weak tactician will run out of ideas, have his team play one-dimensional football, and appear like a headless chicken on the touchline shrieking directions.

A bad manager will blame his players rather than accepting the fault lies with him.

At this moment Rosenoir is not a great manager, do we have the time to wait for him to be?

You say some pie in the sky stuff but this is just nonsense.

Technically, your correct on this one point about bielsa. I don't expect we would ever get him.

My points been missed though, an experienced manager, even a much older and experienced manager and even if that manager was currently out of work, in my opinion, would be of greater value to this clubs performances, than rosenoir would.

Rosenoir is out of his depth.
