Our attendance yesterday was the highest in league one, higher than anyone in the championship and higher than half the Premier league, other clubs bring far more away fans to Pride park than usually travel on their big day out.
Certainly in this division at least we are a big club.

Good to know, but attentandance doesn't guarantee promotion.

    Errr that's us! ?‍♂️

The top 2 teams in a league are the big teams in the league, yes we can claim to have previously played in the Premier league but so can several other teams in this league.

There's a high probability we will win the next two games, but our form of late must improve on an ongoing basis.

We could finish in the play off positions, but that doesn't guarantee promotion.

If promoted, we must have a transfer budget and next season as with this one we will not have a transfer budget.

I don't want us to do what happened under pw tenure at Rotherham, promoted then immediately relegated.

We will be a big club when our team in my eyes, when we are strong enough to challenge in the Championship.

The charts great but not sure on Experimental361's xG model compared to the likes of Opta's who has us better defensively.

That chart only states the obvious.

Derby need to strengthen, but are blocked from doing so because there's no transfer budget.

We acquired many free agents over the summer, many aged players who were probably seeking their last move.

We would have selected better players if we had a transfer budget.

Having no decent sell on value and aged players is a problem, those players will still be with the club over the next few seasons, we will not easily sell them on and next season they will be a year older.

If your club buys players from age 32 upwards, you don't want your club to buy a lot of such players, although they still have great footballing minds, their speed can only get slower and they are more likely to pick up injuries.

To.shape the club we need a team that can perform as well as ipswich, but that will take time.

On the positive side, we still exist as a team.

A number of the free agents we signed are good players, if played in the right formation.

Problem is many of the older players already have a best position, for playing in, if the formations right.

The old saying "you can't teach an old dog, new tricks" applies.

  4. Managerial qualities

A manager's attributes depend on their management style and team.

A club manager and an international manager require different skills.

All great managers share certain traits.

    Leadership

A manager must have team-leading skills. A manager must choose a leadership style and stick to it.

They can be autocratic, where the boss's word is law, or democratic, where everyone has a say and the manager considers others' ideas.

The manager must lead from the front and equip their players to succeed on the pitch.

    Know-how

Best football managers are tactical geniuses.

They have a main strategy and several backups.

Great managers can adapt their tactical instructions based on the opposition's play style, the match's progress, and what the team needs to do to score or defend a lead.

A bad tactician will run out of ideas, have his team play one-dimensional football, and look like a headless chicken on the touchline shouting instructions.

    Talent-spotting

Some club managers must adopt a wheeler-dealer approach to the transfer market due to financial constraints.

Great managers can spot the next superstar.

They develop the talent into a world-class player.

Great managers know how to use talent, whether it's finding a diamond in a club's youth system or bringing an under-loved player into the international fold.

    Confidence

A great manager must believe his players can win no matter what.

With five minutes left, their team is down 2-0, but giving up won't help.

The most confident managers will inspire their players.

This builds a team of players who never give up and believe in success.

Great managers have always been confident in their abilities.

    Management

The greatest managers in history know how to deal with volatile players, can pick up low-confidence players, and can protect a young wonderkid or new signing.

Being a great people person and able to man-manage can mean the difference between success and failure.

A mismanaged player won't perform well, which can hurt the whole team.

    pw vs rosenoir

lr was a coach who stepped up, the results he achieved were not spectacular.

Pw is a manager, who has a track record of promotions from league one, on a very poor transfer budget.

The current team is unlikely to be pw choice, as he played know part in bringing them in.

Some of the players are aged, and might not be as good next season.

Rosenior wasn't the 'manager' though with a proper contract was he, he was in a temporary position to give the club a level of stability in the 1st few months after being on the brink of extinction,  totally different scenario.

Just a point also, unless you are a close confident of David Clowes, no one knows the full reasoning behind Rosenior not being given the job full time,  who honestly expected WR32 to jump ship within minutes of the club being saved, so maybe Clowes had not even considered LR as an option during the take-over but gave him an opportunity to prove himself? As the owner, he's looking at more than just the immediate results on the pitch, he may not have had a good rapport with LR and found him obnoxious, we just don't know.

I was supportive of LR despite not enjoying the over playing at the back and slow build up, hopeful that we would evolve,  as I am supportive of Warne despite being too direct at times and lacking control, hopeful that we will evolve.

Why would you spend millions on a football team and give the job full time to a manager with no proper experience.

As the new owner, logic dictates you give the job to the best manager you can get which in derbys case is 3 time league one promotion manager pw.

  6. My personal insomnia at about the same level as this game.

That aside, warne made 3 changes to the previous game against ipswich but kept the same formation, which doesn't appear to be working for him.

Pw comments about ipswich being relegated with most of their younger championship level players in tact as a team, and that all ipswich needed to do was to further strengthen to achieve where they now are, seems a fair comment

Pw admitted that we shouldn't expect promotion this season, as the team needs a complete rebuild, also seems fair.

I wouldn't want to see this team promoted to the championship in its current form, or we would be doing a Rotherham and coming straight back down again.

I think under lr we would've have had a few more wins this season than pw will bring, but that longer term, pw will do what's requires to promote the team.

I criticised lr for doing something similar to pw, by sticking to a formation, but then lr actually changed formation, during a game and won the game.

It's clear to me that Derby don't have the team to make 352 work.

I thimg Pw is getting frustrated that his plans are failing at present, but I can see that he's trying to build a derby strategy.

Strategy building is a science, projects take time and don't always immediately go to plan.

Last season, pw once again promoted Rotherham from league one, he did so with the team in 2nd place, so he knows what it takes to win in this league.

He promoted Rotherham 3x and that team had a much lower budget than derby will have when we eventually get to spend it.

  7. There are currently eight former Premier League clubs competing in League One, namely Barnsley (1997–98), Bolton Wanderers (1995–96, 1997–98 and 2001–12), Charlton Athletic (1998–99 and 2000–07), Derby County (1996–2002 and 2007–08) Ipswich Town (1992–95 and 2000–02), Milton Keynes Dons as Wimbledon (1992–2000), Portsmouth (2003–10), and Sheffield Wednesday (1992–2000).

Apart from Derby, none have significant restrictions on transfer fees.

None have derbys lack of senior team completion, we are several players short of our senior team being at the max we are allowed.

The other teams even had the advantage of having no delay in starting their summer transfer process.

In the summer, we almost didn't exist as a team.

Pw has experiencing promoting Rotherham on a very low budget, 3 times from league one.

I never expected instant promotion, but I do believe pw is the right manager for us at this time.

My statements about formation are not based on serious football insight. They're based on football writers who understand the game far better than I.

Ipswich played 343, and the recommended formation to beat that is 442.

Does pw have a strategic scout who attends games on derbys behalf and creates a sound strategy to help guide the manager.

I know we lost our football analyst this year, as they rooney in the USA. Rooney could see the value of having a football analyst. We are not financial restricted on staff recruitment, and I'm aware we are seeking a head of recruitment, but what about a football analyst or a scout who gives us insight on upcoming games.

I think the teams we are competing against have this added advantage already.

When lr was our manager, I raised a criticism about lr not changing tactics/formation during games to try and win the game.

  8. https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/derby-county-warne-paul-board-7720666

After the game pw has come out and said, he needs 18 to 20 players, assuming that includes the 14 that were signed in the summer.

He says he needs to improve the defense and he lacks the wing backs for 352 system he likes to play.

There's some time to go before the January transfer window opens and I'd ask the question, why play 352 against man city, if he knew we didn't have the strength in depth to pull that off.

If he had to have 3 at the back, then why not play 343. We wouldn't have needed the wing backs in that formation.

We have the wingers that might have helped.

As I linked to an earlier article, that article says that free agents are OK, but they tend to be the wrong side of 30. They tend to know the style of play they like to play and don't wish to adapt their style of play at their age.

They know that the club signing them is giving them a final pay day, because this is probably their last hurrah. They know their new clubs unlikely to find a buyer for them when they come to the end of their contracts with the club.

These older players are not as fast as they once were, even if they still have the footballing brain.

Derby has still signed some great free agents over the summer, but as I said thru might want to play the pw way, or have the speed to play the counter attack football that 352 is generally used for.

    http://footballagents.org.uk/blog/loan-system-good-or-bad

As a club, through zero choice of our own due to transfer restrictions, we took the plunge and built a team which allowed us to play.

Yet the issues mentioned here apply.

Is this the team, we would have built if we had a transfer budget?

As to this competition, why are u21 premier league sides allowed to play in it, its because the organisers felt it would bring in more revenue. Yet this competition has turned from its grass roots and not given lower league teams a fair opportunity.

The majority of the man city u21 team get opportunities to play for either city or other Premier league teams in their careers and at least some will go on to play at the international level.

City's academy is world class, our academy is good but not that good.

  10. I think that pw is going to want to strengthen the team, he was not happy with yesterday's performance against Accrington Stanley.

Yes we won but we might have lost had both penalties scored.

Pw after the game, said "It was crazy, but the frustration for me was that it wasn't great play, it was our own errors. That's what irritated me. I was biting my fist. I was thinking oh my God, I am going to lose it here."

"We give the ball away in the middle of the park which is an absolute no-no for me. We play straight passes when there is a ball in behind for two willing strikers. They are the things we need to be better at. We created our own problems really but a 3-0 win, a brilliant away following. The one-minute walk-off at the end is the best minute of your week."

Even with Conor Hourihane, missing from the line up. Its possible to see that pw wants to strengthen the team with players of his own choosing.

We are short of several players and we are not playing great football yet.
