We can also sign players on loan. Bonne (QPR), Cullen (Swansea), Maguire (Preston), Waghorn (Coventry) and Cornick (Luton) have all had limited game time this season, and could be options.

In the summer you said we need a 15 plus goals a season striker... and we signed one. Collins has 4 in 11 games this season, equivalent to 16 over a season.
McGoldrick has 1 in 276 mins, equivalent to 15 in a full season (we'l be fortunate if he plays at least 50% of the minutes)
Hourihane has 3 in 11 games, equivalent to 12/13 in a full season.

Mcgoldrick is old, and has a track record of injuries. He's also slow for a striker, plus his record of goals scored over the last couple of seasons doesn't get him any where near 15 goals a season.

We still need a second striker to work with Collins plus a winger to cover NML & Barks. Rooney should get a chance to play at the back or CDM. Thompson & Smith will cover the rest.

The problem is we are only allowed to sign free agents.

I don't see any decent free agent strikers, who would be willing to play for Derby.

We need our on loan strikers to be given the chance to score a lot of goals and hope they do.

In the summer I said we need a 15 plus goals a season striker.

But it will never be 100%. It cannot be perfect as it always depends on interpretation - VAR doesn't change that. Assessment of refs can be done without it.

That has to be accepted and refusing to accept that it always depends on interpretation is as much a problem as poor standards

Isn't about improving the effectiveness of less effective referees in League one.

Yeah cos that will stop all the poor refereeing and controversy. ?

I admit it's not entirely stopped it in the Premier league, but it has helped.

According to FIFA, the VAR system had a success rate of 99.3 percent, up from the 95 percent of correct calls by referees without VAR.

It will make the referees think about what their performance being monitored.

    Pw makes sense ...

"All the free options knocking about, respectfully, are knocking about because they are knocking about. I can't say anything fairer than that.

"I like energy, I like athleticism and it might be in January. Luckily, Korey Smith is coming back and Didzy (David McGoldrick). They would have been ideal subs for me on Saturday. We have got a lot in the building that I really like, but in games like Saturday, it's not one to throw in an 18-year-old.

"You need your men because sometimes it's just about grabbing each other and saying we are not conceding anymore and when we break this is how we are going to play. So yes I think it's a January thing."

So he's actually going to market to purchase players in January?!

    1. PW needs time.

    2. This is a tough league (other teams have paid to bring in quality).

    3. We are going miss James collins for the next 3 games, especially with the Ipswich game.

Agree with the rest of you post but don't agree with that point. Just read the forum.

But those who did favour Rosenoir keeping his job are probably finding it hard to accept Warne coming in to replace him still and days like yesterday just further entrench their opinions.

I think lr would have got us against port Vale.

However, it's unfair to criticise warne, when he's only 3 matches into managing the club.

It takes time to build the club from players you were not responsible for bringing to the club.

I don't blame the players as that's not the formation they had been playing under lr.

I don't blame warne as he has a lot of experience in promoting clubs from this league.

If you lose a player during a game that for me means, change formation, go defensive, especially if you have a lead over the other team or are level on goal difference.

Losing Collins for 3 matches is not great.

    Our midfield 3!

My concern is number 1 on that list.

Knight could be a must sell in January.

His contract runs out in the summer.

I really don't want to see him go for free.

I don't want to lose him for a low fee either, but somethings better than nothing.

I do see why he wants at least championship football, and potentially I could even see him in a Premier league team.

The fee mentioned in the article  isn't even close to where I value him.

Hm ... I think there are a few disadvantages that Derby face, for example a transfer budget.

We can sign free agents but not pay a transfer fee for a player.

I don't think I agree with their view point.

  9. I wasn't impressed by the game.

I feel a positive result could have been achieved if 7 changes hadn't been made to the starting 11, effectively fielding a weaker team.

I get that warne, wanted to give a game to players who weren't getting much game time.

    That's back fired.

I think there's a reason that lr didn't give those players a lot of game time.

I think lr would have fielded a strong and not a weaker team.

It feels like the fans have been let down on this.

That this wasn't the time to field the weaker team.

Det: "Reflecting on the shootout defeat, Warne said: "I think our strength in depth isn't amazing. We have to look after the first 11 quite obviously and we've got another game on Saturday.

"There are a lot of lads here who need game time. I thought the senior pros committed themselves really well and the young pros are playing against an experienced League Two team.

"It is what it is. It's men. There were times when we were a little bit outmanned and a little bit open. We had a 20-minute spell in the second half when they smoked us."

We know we don't have a strong enough team in terms of depth, strong available substitutions. The heart of the team was previously ripped out, as so many players left.

Had we played a full strength team, derby win that game.

I get that we need to give players a rest, but so many changes to the first team before kick off.

I'm also guessing that it doesn't matter, if we lose the game, as we should be focusing on league position.

Our best striker Collins, didn't even make the team.

  10. It appears crazy to me, that forest spend 150 million on 22 new players and can't get them to work as a team under Steve Cooper.

That they appear to be in greater disarray for once than we are.

While clowes has saved our club and brought a winning team under Warne, and for given us a period a of enjoyable football.

Forest who insulted us multiple times as we almost ceased to exist as team right upto when clowes took over in the summer, and now there are those who would call for us to offer peace flag to forest and respect to Steve Cooper.

I think there are far too many forest fans who hoped for Derby to cease to exist as a team.

I think its a bit cheeky to ask that of Derby fans at present.

  11. His after match comments, tell me that he's both an analytic tactician, and excellent at his job.

He sees where he wants the team to be, and he has a plan to get us there.

His next challenge will be Ipswich, not the next match, I can't see the next match being any thing but a win for Derby.

    Mansfield Town, win for us.

    Port Vale, win for us.

    Accrington Stanley, win for us.

Manchester City u21, could be a win.

    Ipswich, next real challenge.

Exactly. Identical performances at Charlton and Fleetwood could easily have produced wins. But likewise, identical performances vs Oxford, Peteborough and Wycombe could have been just draws.

Slighty different fine margins could have had us nearly top, or much lower in table.

Much too soon to judge where we were at, but he was interim manager.

In the summer, Lr had to build team fast in order for Derby to meet at least the minimum requirement for a team to be allowed to play.

With no transfer budget, he brought in a lot of free agents.

The free agents, we're not wanted by their clubs.

Last season Collins couldn't hit a barn door, hasn't changed that much, this season.

I wonder how lr would have done, if he had been allowed to pay money for players.

  13. Unsurprised, good look to lr.

Derby averaged 1.92 points per match with Rosenior as caretaker manger. This trumps Rooney’s total as Rams boss, with the former Manchester United striker averaging 1.14 points per match during his 17-month tenure.

We might have stayed up if Lr had been our Manager instead of Rooney.
