I understand, getting out of League 1 as quick as possible should be the aim.

I just don’t believe fielding a team of 32-37 year olds is the safest way to do that.  Injuries and rests will need to happen, as well as needing some players who can run all day. CD (who I love!), will very likely not be suiting up every game again as he did last year…that was a monumental effort, that certainly can not be expected again.

Derby are under a business plan, so the risk of slippery slope over paying is not really a risk…which is great! And as such, any experience brought in will not be a gamble on the future of the club.

But I still think for the club (long term), we should be letting some of these young lads in the first team. We’d likely be loaning them out to league 1 sides anyway…so, let them play in our league 1 side.

If we did escape this season with a team made up largely of 32 to 37 year old, what do we do about having that number of players on our books once in the Championship.

Plus players of that age have very little if no resale value.

If we are collecting those players to help train up youth players, which youth players as soon many have left recently.

If we are still in League one the following season, these same players are a year older and might struggle even more to be at their best.

I feel like one of the poor defenseless villagers hiring the magnificent seven to defend their town from the enemy, scraping the barrel to get who ever would come for almost no money.

Mind you the magnificent seven, although actually didn't largely survive did at least save the town at the end.

  2. Instead of Craig forsyth, would Erik Peters formerly of Burnley fc be a better option, hes also a left back.

How about Joe Rafferty formerly pne, Moses Obubajo formerly of qpr, nabby sar formerly of Huddersfield.

    What if he got injured?

It's possible he'd get injured but the mathematical probability is greater for any of our over 30 year old players to get injured especially if they have past records for injury as some do.

Knight’s situation is different. He still has a year of his contract to run so we would be in a position to demand a fee from Werder Bremen.

Derby took up contract extensions on Byrne and Buchanan which they were legally entitled to given the age of the players.

They had extended both players by one year and that is why they are entitled to a fee for both players according to the EFL, who support Derby's case.

All that's required is for the FIFA court of arbitration for sport to meet, and then a pay out to Derby.

It's why Derby are paying lawyers to take that forward.

Under such legal action, against the players, they are likely to have signed non disclosure agreements.

We are being further linked with older midfield players, and now will find they have almost zero resale value.

Dale Stephens at 33 being another name we are linked with.

League one is a physical league and we need older experienced players, but we will need younger players, who are physically able at speed to put pressure on the opposition and play the majority of the 40 plus games.

We are losing the backbone of the future team by losing Buchanan, Byrne and now potentially knight.

I am yet to be convinced by Sibley.

We have beaten league two Bradford FC, I don't see that team as the sort of threat we will face in league one.

  5. I think bryne and buchanan are two sides of the same coin, tricked by their agents into thinking they can rip up their contracts and walk away for nothing without action.

Think this is another one for the court of arbitration for sport at fifa to resolve.

I think as with buchanan, the efl will not support the player but will support derby.

Its interesting as it potentially means a decent payout for both players to Derby.

Fifa of course have the power to do things like removing the license to operate for their agents and fining the club's who take then on, even though the players remain registered to Derby.

Our new owner has enough wealth to back a proper legal case against players and its not in derbys interests to lose two young players from whom the club would expect a transfer fee.

Was it the Blackpool fans who made less than favourable comments about Allsop last summer? Those comments felt justified after his first couple of games in the team, but soon turned things round and performed very well over the season.

Pearcey has a good eye, is a good coach, and has picked out Wildsmith as someone he wants to work with. If he does end up being our #1, then I have full faith in it working out.

Hm ... perhaps it had more to do with, we are only able to sign players on free transfers, there aren't that many goalkeepers that are available on free transfers and/or are willing to join a league one club. Players who their clubs wish to get rid of.

  7. From the bulletin board of Joe wildsmith former club, Sheffield Wednesday...

"A good number 2 is somebody that can keep the number 1 at their best, and challenge for a starting spot themselves if the no.1 hits poor form. Wildsmith is pure back up so it leaves us in this position where currently BPF is playing very poorly however he can't really be dropped as the drop to the no.2 is too much."

So they didn't rate him, as good enough for the number one slot and he was surplus to requirements.

The defender posted: “It was an absolute privilege to represent @dcfcofficial since the age of 14.

“Thank you to all the staff, players and fans.

“I hope to see the club back where they belong under the owner.”

If he gave a hoot about the club, he would have honoured the contract he was under.

At least Derby are pursing compensation via FIFA.

McGoldrick is a welcome addition at County according to FLW’s Derby fan pundit Jason Straw of the Rams Review podcast.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he can’t get in to double figures – fingers crossed we can keep him injury-free, at the age of 34; is he going to be able to play week in, week out? Probably not.

Derby will probably need another younger, quicker striker to alternate with McGoldrick, but for what you expect him to provide, the veteran should be a good addition."

"The Republic of Ireland international hasn’t been at his most prolific in the last two years, but his hold-up play could be a really important factor for Derby next season.

It appears that McGoldrick may fill the void left by Colin Kazim-Richards from last season where he can occupy multiple defenders, with his presence allowing other attacking players to express themselves."

Hull City forward Mallik Wilks is open to a move to a League One side.

This could be a good move for all parties – because Wilks proved himself to be a real asset during the 2020/21 campaign in the third tier and could be a great addition to the forward department following Michael Smith’s arrival.

Smith will be a real asset alongside Lee Gregory if the duo start together, though Wilks could also be in the starting lineup if he can prove his worth at Hillsborough, with this deal well worth pursuing.

£200,000 is a very small fee for a forward that proved to the so influential to the Tigers’ promotion-winning 2020/21 season, so it’s no real surprise that bid has been knocked back by officials in East Yorkshire.

However, if he’s available for even double that, it’s still a bargain agreement if Derby can get this deal over the line without the risk of breaching the EFL’s profitability and sustainability rules.

From Hull’s point of view, they will want to see him depart in their quest to bring in new faces so this sustained interest is good for all parties.
