Even 25% is better than nothing. If HMRC playing hardball caused the club to be liquidated, whether as a taxpayer or as Rams fan I would be extremely angry with them . they would be kissing goodbye to the remaining 25% (£7million) as well as any tax on future revenues or expenditure. Plainly that would be bull headed and daft.

No lesson at all. Also if the lesson is don't spend too much on player wages otherwise this is what happens.. well again HMRC is a big loser as they get less in PAYE if players wages are lower.

You should think about writing articles for the Daily Mail.

Problem is we may get less than £10 million in a fire sale . First charge on any assets goes to Msd. So Hmrc still get nothing, in fact more likely to get nothing from a fire sale than a planned sale of players at higher prices.

Usual Daily Mail stuff. Worst case scenarios . Unnamed sources. Not a single named source . Shabby as usual.
I would expect a deal to be done with HMRC. not at 25% , not at 100% but at something in between.
but really this is exactly why I don’t understand why the force majeure defence was not pushed more. The losses which Qunatuma say are due to COVID , between £30 million and £40 million actually exceed this HMRC debt.
so that’s an argument both for force majeure and against any attempt at moral blackmail.

So we had a qunatuma  report issued earlier this week saying after checking and double checking they found no ethical issues.
And the same report saying a funding gap of between £30m and £40 m due to COVID.
so I suggest an investigation would quickly conclude that the debt owing to a Government agency was entirely caused by another Government agency’s response to COVID and the unwillingness of Government to compensate football clubs for the losses they suffered as a result of those Government policies.

A fire sale when you have an imminent takeover makes no sense. It could put off a buyer who was wanting to acquire those assets. So reducing the payout to creditors.

A fire sale will not help the creditors, far from it. If we get a decent offer for a player that's a different matter.

I agree with what you say about worst effects of lockdown it has been a terrible price to pay.
But actually COVID is already in the top three of things that will kill you. And of course the direct effects of COVID could have been a lot worse if not for lockdown.

So basically slater’s most informed source says exactly what I said earlier in this thread. Hmrc will not demand all payment up front and will risk getting nothing if they insist on payment in full. Not worth paying £60 subscription for that I would say. Or 60p come to that.
