All you dirty buggers that like drinking this real ale stuff - Don't know if your aware of this
National supermarket chain Aldi is selling a Derby company's beer to stop it going to waste.
The German retailer has joined forces with 13 British brewing companies to sell alcohol that would normally have gone directly to pubs.
Among those in the scheme is Derby Brewing, which is supplying its "Business as Usual" beer to the supermarket.
The malt beer, which has won regional awards, went on sale in Aldi stores on Thursday, January 28, and is available at £1.49 for a 500ml bottle.
Other brews going on sale in Aldi include golden ales, IPAs and bitters, sourced from local breweries around the UK.
Paul Harris, managing director at Derby Brewing, said it was great to be able to find a use for the beer in a year that his seen its main sources of income taken away by lockdowns and the Covid pandemic.
"It's been a really difficult year for us," he said. "As brewers, we take pride in our beer and our craft.
"It would have been terrible to see it go to waste so it's a massive boost for us that Aldi is taking on our excess stock and supplying our award-winning beer to punters across the UK.

It's not.  The academy is a lot older than ours built in 1998. The head coach there is Marc Bridge-Wilkinson who played for us at the start of his career and then played many years at Port Vale, before coaching at Huddersfield, so I'm not seeing a marked improvement in coaching either. It's for the first team with some facilities for u23's who they expect to move to the first team soon.   But there you go. No point arguing with you.  I'll leave you to your opinion on it.

Scored 4 in that game, wasn't the quickest, interesting to note that no one else in that apprentice side played a league game other than him.

Seen quite a few Liverpool supporters refer to him as one of their money ball signings.  Basically inferring he will used as a catalyst to make money from loans to put towards first team signings in a couple of years.  A likely situation I highlighted yesterday. No risk at a million quid and no add ons if he's loaned out .   Apparently, they've signed a few more young players who they expect to be earmarked for this - bit like that Ojo fella whose had loads of clubs.

This is 'usually' the pint I have in the Brunswick pre match, so maybe I could simulate the build up to the game on Saturday in my living room. Just need to source some cheese rolls and pork pie now.

I think it's hard to compare what I'd do now as opposed to what a 16 year old would do, because I'd certainly be lot less cautious at 16, and most kids believe they're indestructible and aren't as aware of life's potential pitfalls. I don't doubt those advising him are maybe seeing pound signs either, but even then it's exciting - life's short and if he doesn't take this chance he may be left questioning 'what if' later down the line. Of course that also applies if it doesn't work out at Liverpool, but it's all a gamble and I hope for him it works out.
I was being a bit facetious regarding him being paid here, he wouldn't be a high earner even after signing a pro contract and I doubt (hope) Derby's struggles won't last for too much longer.
I do understand the frustration when/if you see players like Delap and Gordon succeed elsewhere, especially if they're sold for tens of millions of pounds later down the line - it's always galling when young talent is poached by these huge clubs, but as you say it's part of the football food chain and their scouting network is designed to recruit them when they're at an age where they don't have to pay huge sums.
I try to take to comfort from the fact that our academy players are attracting such interest though, because there's not been many times in the club's recent history where our young players (or any former players) have gone on to bigger and better things. And it's all part of the business model, sell the best talent to the big clubs, and build a good team with the rest whose value will increase later on. It certainly beats splooshing £4/5m on average 28 year olds then letting them go on a free.
Fingers crossed for the sell on fees though!

Personally, I'd take the first team exposure and have a choice of offers incoming and a very hefty signing on fee in twelve months if I thought I was good enough.  That will get you further quicker and more than make up for loss of earnings on a first pro contract at the moment.   Sure he would get his wages as well.  I was working on the understanding all the youngsters were still getting paid on time.
That's me now.  At 16 might have been different when someone offered me a nice signing on fee.
His story reminds me a lot of the Newcastle and Coventry forward Mick Quinn.  In his book he actually turned down Liverpool to come here as Derby were league champions twice in 4 years and Liverpool were 1 title in ten years.  Didn't work out as he was homesick and got lead astray regarding the booze being away from home as a young kid .
As I noted the other day, much of this is to do with the football food chain that's always there, however a million quid for a player who's supposedly this promising who's had such a thorough and expensive team of academy coaches, nutritionist's, club doctors etc over a  number of years not to mention future value is ridiculous.
No one likes to feel they've rear ended and that's happened with this lad and Delap in just over twelve months.  If they fulfil there potential that's a huge amount of cash down the swanny.  If there was a minimum fee of 1 million but a guaranteed 25% sell on and 50% of any loan fee up to the age of 23 that would be fairer and people wouldn't be so irate.

That can't be true.  We're the only team in this league who do this kind of thing. All those half wits on twitter hoping we go bust for giving Rooney 250 k a week can't be wrong. We've also spent 100 million and sold nobody in 5 years, they can't be wrong can they.

I cannot accept that Derby having stumbled on a wonder kid would be touting him round to the highest bidder like Del boy .   They would offer him a contract to get him signed up and in the first team racking up value as soon as possible.  Even more so at the minute .  The difference could be 10 million quid in 5 months.  Any club buying wouldn't take Derbys word for it anyway.  They must have been looking at him for a while based on there own coaches analysis.

Unfortunately that is football now - The money side of the game is so important especially to a club like ours which doesn't have PL revenues but aims to compete at the top level
He might be 16 but that's the exact age when potential professionals have to make some kind of commitment - Fully appreciate he's just a kid but he's also old enough to have left school and be in full time employment now - And why should the club give him time to make a decision for his benefit which might screw them over?
From a club standpoint if an offer is/was on the table and he's chosen not to take it Derby have to look out for the investment they've made in him - We have a manager who was playing first team football at this age and made a firm and decisive commitment to the club who developed him so will probably expect that of other people too

No. Bogle was released by Reading and had only been at Swindon for about six months. Nowhere near the same outlay and work and interest. I believe they got the fee they wanted at the time as well - could be mistaken on that, it was a while ago.  They also had a decent fee from the sell on as opposed to to this lad who if he play's for Liverpool as a regular will probably not go elsewhere unless he's Barcelona bound. They were always likely to get the 20% extra if he did well.

Just a play on the journalists words mate .  I hate the way these things are reported. It's put across like we had any choice.  regarding the 200k I posted last week that as a 16 year old, a fee of around the base limit there required to pay will give him a nice signing on fee with the normal performance related additions. That would turn your head not unreasonably. We will have had too take a pants fee at the lowest rate possible rather than risk tribunal due to our position.
i have seen on here that as he's not 17 till October he can't sign a pro contract.  That begs the question why they wouldn't wait and pay nothing in October.
Theres always been a food chain in football- up to Madrid and Barcelona at the top.  If this lad came into the team, was brilliant and went to Liverpool for twenty million, fair enough.  If we were 4th in the premier league and Liverpool came in a player will normally go today.  The days of handshake agreements where Goddard and Seth Johnson rejected moves to Liverpool as they gave there word they were coming here are gone.
I think our club is worth more than becoming a feeder club of talent for those who click there fingers though, we may as well call our academy Premier league take your pick.   There should be a minimum 25% sell on set in stone with these things, probably a 25 % of any loan fees as well as Liverpool can't lose.  If he's brilliant they've got a steal on player we've helped develop for years, ifs he's good but not quite good enough - 5 million in championship/ lower prem loan fees- if he's as good as he gets and they let him go in a few years it's pocket change lost.
A lot gets said about add ons/ sell ons  as well.  There generally rubbish. Logically if he's good for Liverpool where else is he going.  Most likely nowhere.  If he isn't great he get's let go- no extras. If he goes on loan we get nothing extra other than he might score against us on his Wolves debut like Huddlestone. We most likely get the base minimum from this and that's your lot.
I find the whole thing, how we are being cherry picked and how it's been reported truly repugnant.

Well yes. Through his own negligence he couldn't do the job he was being paid for. We offered him reduced terms for the remainder of his contract in order to facilitate a replacement . More than generous .  No injustice at all unless you consider the final nail towards administration is paying a fortune to a bloke who couldn't play because he didn't order a taxi.
