Probably my most memorable and favourite game was at the BBG against Newcastle. I think Kevin Keegan was managed of them at the time. The referee was sooo biased towards Derby that the fans were cheering and singing for him and the Geordie fans were ripping the seats out from the Ossie lower. I think they had 3 players sent off and we won something like 4-1. I thoroughly enjoyed that game and sang my heart out from the Columbo terrace 😍

Its been said already! But proper football fans sum up league 1 for me!

Orient fans singing, "national league champions youll never sing that" followed by "league 2 champions, youll never sing that" was a moment ill remember!

Love watching Derby and England but over the last few years the amount of money in football is really getting to me! Price of tickets, kits etc etc! Ill spare you the rant as you all know exactly what i mean!

The games in danger of imploding and clubs in the lower and non leagues are getting screwed more and more! Its sad!!

I think Ed gets a lot of unfair stick from some quarters. Some of it quite vitriolic. And there’s no doubt he cares about this club. I quite enjoy his match commentaries. I also enjoyed Dom’s commentaries as well.
Having listened back to the podcasts of the coverage on Saturday for me it was excellent from the whole team. Just what I like to hear from our local station. And they need to get Malcolm Christie on as a regular as well.

24th September 1997, Sheffield Wednesday 2 - 5 Derby County. A few days after my birthday, I finished school for the day and when my dad got home from work he asked out of the blue (and out of character to be so impulsive) if I wanted to go watch Derby that night, I of course said yes. So we picked up a mate of mine along the way and drove to Sheffield, watched some Italian magic from both sides with Di Canio and Carbone trying their hardest (and failing) to upstage Eranio and Baiano (scored 2). Wanchope (who I loved) and Burton combined for a goal a piece….can’t remember who got the other but it was a pretty special night under the Hillsborough lights wearing that sexy orange and blue Puma number 😮‍💨

3-3 v Wednesday in the cup 1992. Probably the last great night at the BBG.

I'll never forgot the 'you only sing when your fishing' chant, along with some other memorable chants.
Also the groundsmen putting the least amount of effort possible to drain the pitch because Grimsby were 1-0 down.
Me, my dad and brother still talk about it to this day. Worth the ticket money even though it was all for nothing. Had to get a refund from if i remember correctly, couldn't get to the rescheduled game.

Also enjoyed Norwich Away, the Lampard year, when the floodlights went out. I think we were losing when the lights went out, then managed to win the game 4-3.

The coffee cup game was better than the 5-0 for me. Dont know whether it was jus the expectations at the time or my age, but I’ve always loved that.
Southampton play off semi. Pitch invasion in torrential rain. Epic that was.

I didn't want to start a new thread but we lost another special fan last night. For those who know of Colin Attenborough, or remember a few months ago a message Paul Warne did for him (link below), he passed away peacefully in his sleep last night. I knew Colin by playing Poker with him - a great guy - passionate about the team - and I'm happy he was able to be with us until the promotion was secured.
    RIP Colin.

I've really enjoyed league one, I love the fact that most of our games have been 3pm Saturdays, that won't be the case next year.
Some proper community clubs with lovely old school stadiums, proper football, but pleased to be out of it!

Ended flitting between pubs after the game on Saturday but just wanted to say how brilliant it was to be apart of the atmosphere. Five Lamps rammed, the dualling chants between Silk Mill and the Dolphin, The Exeter probably being the best in Derby and The Smithfield’s quite excellent beer range. All pubs full of happy Derby fans. Just wanted to make it to Bustler and Brunswick before the train but think it would have tipped me over the edge, but it sounded like Bustler had a fantastic night. You can say what you want about Derby, but not many cities have the amount of decent pubs in walking distance that we do. Also helped spread everyone out rather than having thousands in one spot.
All the credit to the staff in all establishments I went to who got everyone served and kept their bar queues down too, not easy but should be appreciated.

Just read this thread in one go.  I was expecting a lot of negative stuff so was pleasantly surprised - I guess it helps greatly that we’ve been promoted but all the stuff praising the opposition’s fans is spot on.  They’re supporting - for the most part - very unfashionable clubs.  Their HOME town.  Looked down upon by many - including us until we had to join them.

As some have said, the Carlisle fans summed it up perfectly - great fans, decent fans.  Next season I’m looking forward to renewing rivalries but at times the atmosphere will be toxic.  Until I read this thread, I didn’t realise that I might actually miss League 1 just a little bit.

I've actually enjoyed being in league one. We have played teams who are often teams you only hear in the results round up, I've visited The Valley, my first away ground, no bloated, failed premier league squads funded by parachute payments, proper football grounds, proper lower league football.
Mostly 3pm saturday kick offs too. Whats not to like?
Full marks to the teams, and supporters in the lower leagues. Great respect for them.
We have clawed our way out and time to move on, with lessons learned on and off the field I hope.
My big worry is that the championship is still the arena of lost dreams and massive overspending, with dreams often not fulfilled.

Pikeyram reacted to Crewton in Paul Warne
Arthur Cox is undoubtedly one of the greatest managers in our history. He too got us out of the third tier in his second season, but Arthur started with twice as many players as Rosenior inherited and was able to strengthen the team part-way through the first season using money raised from the sale of Kevin Wilson and subsequently using investment from Maxwell. Rosenior (building on Rooney's undoubted influence) put together a functional team, but Warne's ability to trade-up was far more restricted than Cox's. I think for that reason it's fair to see this promotion as a greater achievement than Cox's first promotion, and a fair contender to be considered alongside Cox's 2nd promotion and Clough and Taylor's in 1969, purely because of the obstacles that had to be overcome.
Warne may never achieve another promotion or honour with Derby, but this is an achievement worthy of the prefix "great".

David Clowes took Paul Warne and his coaching staff on to get us up. PW’s record of achieving promotion from L1 is unreal.
PW set the squad a target of 92 points to get us up this season.
we achieved exactly that and in the dying embers of the season held our (experienced) nerve and fought off the challengers who now have to go through play-off purgatory.
Paul Warne has got the job done.
he will get a long unfettered transfer window and a fair crack at Championship management. He deserves that.
I think Rotherham were in 7th or 8th position in Championship when DC came knocking.

I’m looking forward to seeing his Derby side and how they fair next term. I’m hoping for an Ipswich rather than a Plymouth season.
Massive respect to him his coaches, DC and all the players. Enjoyed that ta 🥈🐏⚽️👏

Just thinking back to my comments about the passionate lower league fans, just shows the power of the pyramid system which the Premier League really doesn't seem to care about.
Long live the English League system, protect it, worship it, it's so important

Pikeyram reacted to Kernow in Now we're promoted, what are your thoughts on League One ?
My thoughts are that it feels like proper football. I’m becoming increasingly alienated by modern, elite football. I watch it less and less now, and when I do watch it, the enjoyment is sucked out by the way it’s organised and run.
There’s real supporters who support less glamorous clubs because they love them. Not because they win anything or because it’s a tourist attraction. 1700 fans travelled from little Carlisle, just to watch their team that were relegated weeks ago. That’s proper football.
There’s obviously far less money, the facilities are nowhere near as good, the players can’t quite play the same kind of football, but it’s strangely enjoyable.
From scoring two in added time at Port Vale, to Wilson’s header against Bolton, to watching Collins’ penalty at Forest Green from a grass verge outside the ground because the one single turnstile wasn’t working quick enough, it’s been great.
Although saying that, I’m hoping we don’t have to return any time soon!
