Ideally you’re talking Jokanovic with money, Wilder if not. I highly doubt any manager of that caliber would consider joining this clown show though.
If we go down, Evatt seems the natural choice. It won’t matter how much money we have in League 1, you need players that can battle hard and grind out wins. Doubt we’ll see much ‘take the ball, pass the ball’.

There's probably 4 different scenarios that would all need a different manager.
    1. Championship with money
    2. Championship with no money
    3. League One with money
    4. League One with no money
I wouldn't want Rooney in any of those scenarios

I think his bad luck was enough to justify giving him the start of this season. He did have a preseason this season, which he seemed to waste working on a 3-4-3 formation which was subsequently binned after a few games when it utterly failed. You could tell after the Blackburn game he was in complete shock and had no clue what to do. Every club had to deal with COVID. I can understand a team performing badly with the circumstances you mentioned, but there's bad, and then there's abysmal, which is what we we're/are. Being completely outplayed by Barrow was possibly the lowest I've ever seen the club. I still think he is one of our worst managers ever. I don't think he's a bad manager by any means but he just never got to grips with Championship football

Obviously the players have to take some responsibility, but don't our failings have more to do with the fact those "two managers" have been two of the worst managers in Derby's history?

I'm not saying they're top quality, but aren't they at least good enough to avoid relegation? Are you saying the quality of the squad on paper is in the bottom 3 in the league? If you are I just have to disagree.

i'm not referring to the Lampard team.
Waghorn & Lawrence have both proved they can at Ipswich who had a very questionable side.
Bielik & Clarke we all know their quality
Byrne & Marshall have both proved it at Wigan recently
Jozwiak has proved it with Poland
We all know Wisdom, Bird, Forsyth, Knight, Buchanan,  can play better

worse than Cocu with largely the same team. Get him and Rosenior gone! We've sacked better managers for less

If there has ever been a nobrainer time to sack a manager it’s now.
    It just makes perfect sense.
What is the benefit of not doing it?

Ian Evatt feels like a good shout regardless of the league we end up in.
If we do manage to stay in the league and if we have the finances for it and if he doesn't end up going to Sheff Utd; I'd make a serious effort to bring in Jokanovic.
And if in the strange scenario that Mac takes over for the next three and we pick up a few wins then I'd be tempted to see if he wants it full time.

Mac 3 the most realistic option ,didn't want him back the 2nd time but probably the best quality coach we are ever likely to get in the present circumstance. Can't imagine anyone of calibre coming within 30 miles of the club with our managerial record and if Mac was to take over he is in a better position than anyone to be aware of all the issues both in and off the pitch.

A couple more ex-Rams.....I know, I know, please don't use Rowett, Gregory and Todd against me but....
I'm surprised he's not been mentioned yet but.....
                    Chris Powell
Was very successful at Charlton, won his one game in charge of the Rams, talks a lot of football sense.
His gig at Tottenham will only be temporary.
    Otherwise.....
                   Paul Simpson
Was successful in his own right as Manager, without McClaren, at smaller clubs then with the England kids.

I feel like I want to give Wayne a chance, but if we drop into L1, I would like to clear the decks. It's been a disappointment since we appointed Cocu and the signing of Rooney was a gimmick that could cost the club severely, undermining the previous manager for a start.
I think it's harsh if anyone belittles Nigel Clough. He left this club better than he found it.
For me, perhaps it's premature to bandy names, but can't resist. I was browsing the top 10 in L1 & Michael Appleton appeals. Grim faced Northerner he may, but he did well at Oxford, style & playing assets (Kemar Roofe, O'Dowda). Cowley was not an easy act to follow but he appears to have taken Lincoln on to the next stage.
I think Darren Ferguson was being tongue in cheek when he tried to motivate his Peterborough side saying if they'd prefer visiting a L1 ground or us with 30k fans. It looks like we're going to be the ones visiting a L1 ground. Another manager who can build a team & sell players on at a profit.
Always liked Adkins, but he's now at Charlton. Some have mentioned Hasselbaink. Like Ferguson, can he only achieve success at one club? Both have flopped elsewhere in the Championship.
The switch from L2 to Championship challenging (Cowley, Nigel Clough), Evatt is an interesting shout.
Maybe if we do go down, we should establish what criteria we need (it's probably being discussed already earlier in the thread):
    (1) Someone experienced in the lower leagues & knows what is needed
    (2) Capable of building a side on a (reduced) budget
    (3) Proven at developing talent (Academy)
It'll be bitterly disappointing to go down, but there's the nucleus of a side capable of doing well in L1. The commentary I was listening to yesterday lambasted our attitude, the lack of fight/urgency, but praised our midfield. In attack, we're too dependent on CKR and didn't get any others in the penalty box.
