You could argue that so are the rest of us. Every one of us on here has been born into relative privilege, compared with the vast majority of people in the world.

Take your point....
But the NHS is under strain not because of King Charles getting cancer....but the deluge of 'mental health' issues, parents wanting diagnosis instead of looking towards their own parenting first, people wanting compensation for car accidents, millions of missed appointments, the obesity crisis etc etc

There’s a small army at the NHS looking out records for patient claims. It’s a wonder any clinician dare begin to treat anyone for fear of being sued

GB SPORTS reacted to Day in King Charles Diagnosed With Cancer
Saying that, I know, but I don't know why this topic has descended into an NHS topic.
Royalist or not, surely we can all understand why the King of the country would receive priority health care unlike our own friends and family?
Having lost my sister in law recently to cancer, just 42 years old, I am not sat here without experience of watching someone die having been through the NHS system, months of appointments, misdiagnosis before they realised it was cancer and then left cancer cells in her kidney which spread to the rest of her body.
She wasn't royalty, she wasn't the Queen of the country, her death whilst making front page news of the local paper, was not a national story. She was just a regular person that unfortunately due to mistakes lost her life, as many have and will continue to do so.
King Charles, for the record I am no royalist, never watched a wedding, ceremony, couldn't even tell you the full words to the national anthem. He's the King, it's blindly obvious why his health would take priority, avoiding the regular process which all starts being on hold at 8am trying to get a doctors appointment.
He's the King, figurehead of the country. He's probably never had to load a dishwasher, wash his own clothes or hoover his own living room.
Do I believe anyone should be born into that position, no, but the hierarchy in this country exists and it is what it is.
The state of the NHS is another topic in itself, which in fairness due to our political rules on this forum probably can't take place as we ultimately know why all the difficulties exist and with a growing population, will only get worse.
The King of the country has got cancer though, that's the big story here.
I wish him well and catching it early means the treatment will work.

100% agree.
When some on the left were up in arms because Trump got preferential treatment when he got covid, I was like wtf, he's the President?
Whereas my heart says everybody should be treated equally, my brain says that the sheer fact that he signs off on laws in our country and is head of State means we really should throw as many resources at it as possible.
And I'm not at all in favour of a monarchy, but we have to be sensible.
I actually quite like Charles and hope he makes a speedy recovery.

The trouble with the NHS is that it is now expected to be everything to everyone. I really believe that there are lots of things that, if you want them, you pay for them. You keep taking more out than goes in and you get what you now have - impossible situation. And I work in the NHS.

GB SPORTS reacted to ramit in Reykjanes awakes
Up until these latest eruptions, the prevailing scientific thought has been that there are 4 volcanic systems under Reykjanes peninsula, the revised opinion by some now is that it is in fact just 1 system, or at the very least all 4 interconnected. A new eruption is now expected at any time, the magma chamber under Svartsengi has exceeded 9 million cubic meters in magma volume. It will come up somewhere close to the last one. Lots of quakes all over the peninsula and some in the sea and there is serious talk of the Reykjavík area being in considerable danger of lava flow in the near future, some scientists want protective walls being piled up sooner rather than later. Much of the newer neighborhoods have unwisely been built over old lava fields.
Grindavík is finished, the town is torn apart. Former inhabitants have been collecting their belongings from their houses in groups, each group having only 6 hours to clear everything out. The weather has been really bad, delaying these actions, for roads have been snowed over. It is like the townspeople have a curse on them, nothing goes their way.
There was hope that the sports arena had not been badly damaged, but then some sagging on the floor covering was noticed...

My view is that he, and anyone who can afford it, are doing the rest of us a favour by using private health care. If you can afford it, you should almost be obliged to use it. Don’t waste NHS resources that can be used on those that really need it, when you can afford to pay for health care. Everyone’s a winner. You get faster healthcare, and the NHS has one less person to look after, so one person gets slightly higher up the waiting list.

I pity anyone, no matter how high or how humble that has to contend with cancer.
It is a life altering condition that not only profoundly affects the sufferer but also their family.
Any condition whose treatment requires those administering it to wear heavy duty PPE is not to be taken lightly.
I wish him and anyone else suffering from or caring for someone with this terrible disease the best possible outcome.

GB SPORTS reacted to Anag Ram in King Charles Diagnosed With Cancer
Sorry, my point was that more demand for private healthcare would increase the number of facilities for treatment, reducing the burden on the NHS.
A smaller number of doctors and nurses would be required for the NHS which should (and this is hypothetical) mean the government could afford to pay them more.

Bill Clinton asked Monica Lewinsky if she'd like to see the Presidential clock. She of course replied yes. He unzipped and pulled it out and she said, "but that's not a clock". He said, "it will be when you put two hands and a face on it."

GB SPORTS reacted to MadAmster in Has DC lost faith in the recruitment process?
No. PW only wants players who will improve the team. Then there's the added complication of the "business plan". I get the impression many are thinking "roll on the summer then we can go out and spend". Problem is that isn't going to happen. Why not? David Clowes has told us that the club will be self sufficient and the financial situation will be sustainable. To me, that means we will spend no more than we have generated in income.
We lost £6.8M in the first 9 months following the exit from administration. Gates are around 690 a game down on average so I'm not expecting the accounts for this season to be suddenly showing a profit. That means, for next season, as with this season, we will have ticket receipts, sponsorship and advertising revenue and that's it. If we're still in L1 then we'll have a similar amount to this season to spend. If we go up I'd expect us to have slightly more. That means we will still be limited on transfer and loan fees and on wages. That will put "proven" players like Clarke-Harris out of our budgetary range. It is unlikely we will see 7 figure buys. What will we see, then? More of the same? Some of it, yes, Apparently PW is now wanting to look abroad which is a good idea.
I'd also be more than happy for PW to start showing some faith in the likes of Fapetu, Robinson, Weston etc. One would hope he gets some pressure to do so as Clowes was determined to retain the Academy's status and ignoring their better prospects goes against what DC appears to want... and he holds the purse strings. Next season, the kids will all be a year older, wiser, bigger and stronger. I say, give them a chance.
