Looks like Brighton will get their £100 mill for a DM/ RB and Southampton ,£50 mill for a lad that’s played 20 Prem games . If we ever get back to the Prem , we would need £300 mill up front - to hang in there.

Exactly my point. We would need massive investment, even if we get the golden playoff money.

The so called richest game in football, wouldn't even buy those two alone.

The most shrewd approach is to absolutely nail your recruitment strategy, from the academy right the way up. It takes money and investment, but if you have a system that you’re absolutely sure is bulletproof then you won’t go far wrong. The second part is coaching, again, right the way through.

What we’re doing now is fine while we’re under restrictions and in League One, but if the long-term plan is short-term contracts and recycling through free agents every year then I struggle to get behind the vision. I understand the strategy is viable, because you’re actively monitoring your budget, not really tying yourself down in bad financial contracts, i.e. Anya, etc. I get with promotion you’re able to go for a higher class of player and bigger wages with the larger revenue. It’s a safer approach. It’s not to say it can’t work, either, but it’s not the way I envisage the club becoming successful long-term.

I am pretty certain that this is the short term vision until we are no longer under restrictions. Having said that it was muted that MM had around 500 mil behind him and DC has no where near that amount. (Which actually makes his saving of the club all the more praiseworthy).

So I guess we will not see any sort of big spend, unless we get into the premier league where money is no object, even then we wont compete with the big boys.

Actually makes me sick when you see a premier league club spending over double for one player than we are allowed to spend total in 3 years without penalty.

I'd say so, what are other peoples thoughts?

    Positive thoughts welcome.

Oh my god,,,,,Really? How many times do reactionary fans go on a rant every time we lose a game.

Isn't it the constant changing of management that is partly to blame for the situation we ended up in?

He is building HIS team, never going to click immediately for gods sake give him time

Just as long as it doesn’t become a popularity vote rather than a suitability vote. I’m confident it won’t be by the way but that is always a risk with such a selection method.

Having said that, I agree, it’s not much more than a formality same as with squad numbers.

Because I said “not much more” not “nothing more”.

My Apologies. I was referring to the fact you said about it being a popularity vote rather then a suitability vote.

You then went on to say 'Having said that, I agree, it's not much more than a formality same as squad number.

I found it amusing that you had you say, then said it was a formality anyway.

Just my sense of humour, hence the laughing emoji

So why say it then? 😂

why have the players picked the captain?  It’s daft. (They may well have picked Fozzie whom they all no doubt love and respect but on field captain is not his thing. )

Warne should pick the on field captain - off field as well if we have two. It’s an important decision and part of his job. I don’t think he liked the idea of telling Hourihane that he is not suitable

I think I read that Warne has done this before. Let the players decide who they want to follow. Might have some merits

Prediction League point scorers for league games, and occasional league tables will be posted in here ..

    PREDICTION LEAGUE RULES

Every league game, I will start a thread on the 'Prediction League' page. I will go through the predictions you post  after each game and look for your prediction, and I'll attempt to keep a league table running.

It would help immensely if you could post the result in the following format

    example :- Portsmouth 0 Derby 2 , Mendez-Laing FRGS

Points will be gained for the following correct predictions:

1 / For correctly nominating the winning team or a draw: +1 point
2 / For correctly nominating the first Rams goalscorer: +2 points
3 / For correctly predicting no Derby goals: +2 points ya miserable b'stards
4 / For correctly nominating the scoreline ,  ** with the teams the right way around ** , +2 points (so 3, including the point for predicting the winning team)

And no conditionals. No "If Sibley starts, then we'll win, but if he's on the bench we'll draw" stuff - pick a result and go for it.

A total of 5 points can be picked up per game.

I'll be looking at the last prediction you make in the thread. Only predictions made before kickoff will count, and if you go back and modify your prediction after kickoff, I'll not count it.

Just for fun and bragging rights , i'll attempt to make League Tables as i did last season , maybe not updating after every match but periodicly depending on how enthusiastic i become , all your predictions will be safely stored on my trusty fag packet  memory stick

**unless blatantly obvious , ie 2-0 Mendez-Laing FRGS , which will be allowed , even if Derby are away ** ..

Please try and avoid using players 'nicknames' as 'FRGS' as i may not recognise them.

NEW PLAYERS  ALWAYS WELCOME AND  CAN JOIN IN THE FUN AT ANY TIME DURING THE SEASON

Going in early on that one 😀

To answer one question ticket touting is a criminal offence

To answer another one of your questions - does the club know - well if you wanted to inform the club about this activity then that would deal with that one.

Who would want to go and counterfeit tickets for Burton vs Derby I mean it's hardly like the World Cup Final really is it.....

I beg to differ, it is if you are a Burton fan.

I agree that players obviously need to push for as much money as possible but I don't agree that the signings don't see Derby as a decent move. I'm not delusional and saying we're a huge club but we've got the history, decent ground, decent fans (in that we're not too demanding) and the training facilities are top class.

Obviously I'm biased but I don't think there's a L1 club close to having our combination of infrastructure, fan base and history (Bolton have the history but little else, maybe Portsmouth too). I doubt these lads would have signed for Cheltenham Town even if they paid 20%+ more in wages. Would you want your legacy to have DCFC on it or Fleetwood Town...?

So I do think, given where these lads have come from, they would see playing for us as an honour. Have you see Luton's ground...?! 😉

Ask Jack Marriott the proud owner of both on his CV

I think the nature of the PL is such a way that at some point every side besides 6 will get relegated at some point. Even Leicester who won the league, the FA Cup and enjoyed a few years of European football couldn’t avoid it.

We’d be the same if we ever got back there, just have to enjoy it whilst you’re there.

There should be 3 worse teams than Forest this year, but like all the others, relegation is inevitable at some point.

Agreed, let's just hope we are going in the opposite direction when they do come down. Bragging rights and all that.
