Warne could go down the local boxing club and see if there's any down there fancy a new career. 😄

Well, it looks like the only way to play and do well in this division is by fighting. Being able to play a bit is not good enough.

  2. Sadly, another case of an owner who thinks he knows better or about football.  We have been there with the same manager. The team were doing well and probably had an affinity with Eustace, and maybe feel anger and it may take Rooney a while to win them over. (Not Rooneys fault). However,  he will (like us) want to play 'his way' so new style,  new players coming in.  Total disruption. I think they will struggle and drop away.

I have driven along that road or very similar from Vegas to the Grand Canyon.  You can see for miles forward and backwards.  I watched as a car was approaching from behind for what appeared to be hours. As he sped passed me, a police car appeared from nowhere.  I swear he must have popped up from underground.  Any way, back on topic.

I am hoping the last game was a big wake up call to the players and Paul and we see the start of something new tonight.

Before Saturday, I had hoped for at least 2 wins and 2 draws from the following 4 games, 3 wins and a loss more than acceptable.  Well, we have our loss, so now I want to see 3 wins.

There simply has to be a reaction tonight, no nerves, no caution, just go for it and show us all why you were chosen to represent, or put on the shirt of Derby!!

Win games, play good football and us moaners can start moaning about the price of a pint again!

    Season starts tonight.......

Season 8 Hope GIF by THE NEXT STEP

I would argue that 3 wins is more than acceptable considering your first hope was 2 wins and 2 draws. 🤤

11th in League 1.  Is this the lowest we have ever been in our entire history?

If so, does PW really understand what that means, and just how humiliating it is for a club of this size?

We are not here because the team as it was under Rooney played badly, but for other reasons.  In purely footballing terms we should not be here, and yet we are struggling to escape.

This squad is theoretically one of the strongest in this league, and yet are clearly underperforming.

To struggle, and lose, against all these League 1 minnows is embarrassing frankly.  If PW understands this league so well, how come this keeps on happening?  Or is he, as Roy Hodgson was at Liverpool, a good manager but simply out of his depth?

IMO unless we pick up at least 4 points from the next 2 games and/or return to the top 10 during the next week then he is toast.

He has 2 games to save his job.

I like the guy, but maybe if he stopped being so damn nice, and cared a bit less about being popular in the dressing room, then we would see some better performances and results.

Are you David Clowes? Or in the know? Or like everyone else, a speculation master? Hoping one of your little snippets comes true, so you can say, "I told you so".

  6. For what it is worth. The players have to take some responsibility.

Everyone saying we aren't playing them in positions that suit their style of play is fine, I get that.

However most people would agree that most of our players are or in paper at a standard above this league.

So why aren't they playing like it? Even if they aren't in their favoured positions they should still be able to play football.  So why, when they are out of position,  do they lose the ability to pass, control the ball, read the game?

Well, I am a Warne in man. Not because he’s a genius, not because I like 3 at the back and flogging aging wide players to play the full length of the pitch. Not because sometimes he seems inflexible.

I am Warne in because we have all been too impatient in recent times. Because he talks as straight as he is able to, without betraying confidences that he has to keep. That despite some bumps, he has engendered a team sprit. He wants to win, never knowingly plays for a draw, likes using width of the pitch. Has probably done as well as anyone attainable for us could have done. The injuries we have had have been very unlucky. …. And biggest of all he deserves a chance over the length of his contract without constantly having to look over his shoulder in case he’s going to get tripped by his own fans.
Question him ? Yes. Put him on the spot Yes ! Undermine him in the considered way that some seem to revel in no.

The football is ok with some ups and downs. Still lots to do, isn’t perfect but I am fed up with manager merry go round. Unless we look threatened by relegation he gets my full support at least to the end of the season and maybe beyond.

I am with you there @jono I have been saying for ages that the manager merry go-round is partly to blame for where we are now.

New manager, new team, more signings, more money. No instant success - Sack manager.

New manager, new style, new players (more money) mixed with old players, no instant success. Sack manager. AND IT GOES ROUND

That's a lot of words to not really dispute my point. Lots of ''likely'' and ''estimates''. I don't mind speculation, but it's immediately invalidated when utilised in a critical capacity because the easy defence, as I'll put up here, is you could be entirely wrong, and can't prove you aren't...

How have you calculated your 'conservative estimate'? Salarysport lists us at £7,873,840 per annum. While that's likely also slightly wayward, they do break down individual wages.

The original point, which I just had to check since this has become fairly convoluted, was that Warne had a big enough budget that any 'extenuating factors' are overridden- I don't believe that's true and I believe there's more to it than 'Paul Warne only wanted to sign free agents'.

However. Should, woulda, coulda or likely and estimates are all well and good.

The plain fact is we will or may never know how much the budget actually is or whether PW only wanted free agents.

    All purely speculation

Any chance you'll be visiting the Kennedy Space Center? It'll make Carl Sagan jealous 😉.

I landed there once. The only thing I remember was the crocodile which was in the stream by the parking bay which eventually came on to the pan while I was trying to put the aircraft to bed. Massive thing

It's probably since the record Premier league season so a good 15 years! Derby has had some horrible luck and not much to cheer about.

Going from one manager to the next endless players coming and going we have only had success (only in short moments) and maybe the other teams of our stature (and below) and teams near us like Lesta/Forest have had good success

The fans can only take so much but we stand by and support regardless

The game being a money game, you need to be funded to hit the Premier league... if we beat Villa may all of our fortunes been different. Cause the prem works differently we probably wouldn't have had any points deduction and also would have written off a lot of debt

We just want something to be proud of like any fan does

One day.... Derby County will rise up again 🐏

And yet most are screaming for another. Simple fact on top of previous mis-management from the owners is we never have a settled period at all.

Another manager, different style, new players. Oh why haven't we got instant success? Let's get rid of the manager.

You can sum it up in one word - Entitled.

The logic is that we would require a high turnover of players no matter which division we're in.
Failure to go up = some players are not good enough for Warne's system, whilst others are too good and will move on anyway
Promotion = L1 quality players aren't good enough for the Championship so need replacing.

Based on the evidence so far, I don't think recruitment in the summer was as good as our management team first thought. For example, you would hope someone on a 2+ year contract in a L1 side challenging for automatic promotion would be a starter in L1 and squad player (or better) in the Championship. However, Bradley, Elder, and Washington have so far failed to show they're better than their competition (Cashin, Forsyth and Waghorn)

While I agree with what you are saying.

Just to throw my two penneth worth. I remember Glenn Hoddle playing in his first few games and pushing balls into spaces where no one was.

I thought he was rubbish, until I realised he was used to better players around him, who would know he would put a ball into that space. Once they got used to him, wow.

Maybe it is a case of the players (and we have bought in a good few this summer) getting to know each other.

We haven't just got a hand full to learn this we have a hatful.

I don't think we are far off what we expect and maybe a few games with ALL players fit, it will come.

Curtis Nelson, the instinct to be in the right place at the right time, intelligence to when to play the ball or clear his lines, I would say hard work as well but he looks like he cruises through games, a very impressive professional

I totally agree. But wouldn't you say he has the perfect blend. Intelligence to read the game coupled with instinct, probably built up through experience. This allows him to get the job done without expending lots of energy. Which is why he looks like he is cruising. That is why he has and probably will go on a lot longer than others around him at a decent level.

Defenders probably by the very nature of their role, don't necessarily need to run as much as midfield and the forwards, so why not conserve energy..

Warne knows the pressure is on. When life is rosey it’s easy to make good decisions. When life’s difficult it can be much harder to make sound judgments and humans can tend to fall back on what they know, even if it’s ultimately unhelpful. I see this daily in my job. We all have options and choices but when things are tough we look for safety, and a lot of those choices don’t seem palatable or possible.

Warne wants to progress as far as he can in the Pizza cup as success breed success, Hence why he opted for what he knows. Not for one second saying the Academy lads shouldn’t have got more/some minutes last night, but I can see why he did what he did. Long-term though I would like Warne to dip his toe outside his circle of safety, as I think the rewards probably outweigh the negatives of a loss/stale performance.

Damned if he did and damned if he didn't.  I am sure those screaming for the youngsters to have been given a chance last night, would have called for his head had we lost.

Please compare last night’s NC team with the team that starts in the league. I’d say a league two second string is weak opposition.

They put up a pretty good show in my opinion. You still have to beat what is put in front of you. This would be their BIG game in the round robin games and a local Derby. I personally thought we played well for the most part. We just need to be more clinical.

Let's face it if half of the chances went in last night, every one would be waxing lyrical.

It’s one thing doing it in the Prem but doing it in a poor league one? We are better than that.

I would argue you are given time in the Prem to pass the ball around. In League one it is more industrial and you get harried and closed down by potentially less skilled players. Time on the ball is at a premium and if you can't control a good pass you can get punshed. So Possession based football might look great if you can do it and have more time.

We played some nice stuff in the first half against weak opposition, as we did at times against Cheltenham.

However, the midfield disappeared and the forward line got sloppy. Our defence had to hold on and we had to rely on luck to get us through. If we replicate that in the league, a hammering awaits.

Fornah has had a couple of poor games but is a good player. Hourihane can’t play more than a half these days.

I think we need to play Bird, Smith and Fornah as a three where we have three different skill sets.

I hope the players enjoyed their win and that Warne can take the panic out of their finishing. That debacle with Barkhuisen and Collins showed how low their confidence has fallen with regard to scoring a goal.

Weak opposition? Based on what? The fact they are in a league below us?

Very strange comment considering they have moved up from the National league and are top of the next and ripping most of the teams around them.

I would wager that team may well be doing quite well in league one should they be in that league.
