Assuming Darren Wassall no longer has managerial ambitions I'd make him CEO and give him the choice of manager. The next manager is going to have to use the academy so it makes sense to appoint somebody with the same playing style as the academy.
It's only just occured to me how many Derby managers Darren Wassell has played under: Brian Clough, Arthur Cox, Roy McFarland, Jim Smith, Nigel Clough!

If it is to be Rosenior, then if I was making the appointment, I'd insist on him appointing an experienced assistant.
I think that completely rebuilding a club like ours, from the position we are in, is an almost impossible job for somebody with so little experience in my opinion.
I've no doubt that he is a good coach but in our position we are going to need far more than good coaching especially when you consider that we don't even have a scouting department at the moment.
There's a lot to be said for continuity but whilst I'm sure he has the belief in his own ability, he will absolutely need some experienced help and guidance and, rather than imposing somebody on him that he may not bond with, I think he should be 'urged' to get somebody in that he trusts.

Davies wants Rosenior, so that'll do for me. Agree about the experienced (in L1) assistant though, we will need to reform our scouting network and in the meantime we need someone in who has an eye for a player at this level.

Mowbray is a decent shout imo if we go down the experienced route. Recently won promotion from League 1, got stability back at Blackburn, turned Armstrong & Brereton into goalscorers, signed players like Dack, decent style of football & uses youth players too

But, the goings on of the last 18-24 months are going to effect how we move forward. I actually am starting to agree with your view on us losing the burden of Rooney and the circus around him, now I’m thinking about it. But, I can’t help thinking he would have the advantage of a similar start to last season with recruitment. Maybe he knows he’s struggling to get any decent players willing to come, or has been told that players are looking to move away after committing to him at the end of last season.

I Wish Rooney all the best for his future and have respect for him and how he conducted himself with derby county in very bad times ,
truth is though ,the club is on its uppers and probably can’t finance the kind of players needed for a promotion push under Rooney next season , where is the sense in having a high profile high earning manager if you can’t afford to get him the players he needs to bounce straight back up as he would want to do ,

I’m actually getting a wee bit excited about all this.
Yes, team on the brink, Manager leaving so close to pre-season, and all that.
But Derby County will be playing football with a new chairman, boss, and a trimmed down squad. All without much expectation. They all just get to build, take chances with players/tactics, and let the team grow organically.
That is something I’ve been wanting for a few years now. The team turnover of managers and bloated team sheets have been such a headache for a few years.
It will be nice to just have a humble team left alone to grow and become successful again. ?♂️
