I love a good one-liner.....

At least it will disappear when the tide comes in.

Hints of a MP sequel “Monty Ward and the Wholly Failed”.
I’ll get me coat!

While Sibs and Barks work towards fitness, and without any incomings, my setup (alas not Warne's) would be:
Wildsmith
Rooney Nelson/Bradley Cashin Forsyth
Smith
Thompson Hourihane
Mendez-Laing Waghorn Washington
Subs: Vickers Bardell Bradley/Nelson Elder Sibley Collins Barkhuizen
Then, we all know Mendez-Laing is spent after 55 minutes so I'd be looking at swapping him early for either Sibs or Barks, depending on whether we wanted to change things up or keep the same formation. Either way, the other two forward-thinking subs should be on by 70 minutes, with Waghorn and Washington likely off (unless scoring for fun). It's their job to run themselves and the defenders into the ground by 70 minutes to allow fresh legs on to attack tired defenders.
I feel I've not seen enough of Bradley and Nelson to see who should have the starting berth.
We should fear no one in this division and be looking to win every game. We are the biggest thing in town. I don't accept this "take a point now" mentality. Time to start rising up the table and making the rest take notice. We are Derby!

I’m beginning to wonder if we are down to two hopes of transfer news: Bob Hope and no hope.
And the late news is that Bob Hope is dead!

I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if Fornah is better as a defensive midfielder than Korey Smith in terms of reading the game, organizing the team to move us up the pitch, and trying to pick an attacking pass. I hope to be proved wrong and it's true youthful vitality would bring a lot more energy to our team (let's have Sibley, Tommo and Rooney as starters).
Since the days of Gorgeous George we've played with two holding midfielders rather than one, stifling our attacking intent. I think that's such a mistake, and if bringing Fornah in means Warne will move the rest of the midfield forward to where they can better hurt the opposition, I think that's to the good.

Not sure, at the moment, that Derby County could sign a birthday card.
We look a little more shambolic every day that passes.

The plan is a high tempo passing game getting us promoted and he keeps signing old slow players.
My plan to trim my beard with a blowtorch seems sensible in comparison.

A season on what our players are getting paid would make me pretty financially secure, thank you very much. There again unlike most footballers I live in the real world.
If you can call what’s happening all around us real!

It's a bit difficult to know who would do better though when they don't get chance. I thought Sibs corners and deadballs were pretty good.

Yes. And if we had been given all the stonewall penalties which were denied us, and had not had any of the dodgy penalty awards against us, we would have made the automatics. Some have suggested that we are talking of a minimum of 12 - 15 points, plus all those points from games where we threw them away.

I'm wondering whether or not things have moved on and Warne's brand of 3 at the back has been left behind? I can remember Wimbledon's assault on the top division worked because the teams didn't know what had hit them, and couldn't cope with it. But it doesn't work now, as successfully proven by Billy Davis when he took the Rams up there.
I expected League 1 football would be a crude collection of hoof and thug, with a basket load of time wasting going on. There are some remnants, especially the time wasting last season, but the standard of football by some of the better clubs is a lot higher than I thought it would have been. Could it be that Warne's version of "Ping it to the wings then whack it into the box" has had it's day, having worked in the past?

Dont mind so much if they get things wrong as long as are consistently wrong to both sides!

Yes, the question should rather be why Warne subsequently ignored his good form as soon as it came to the League games?

Ok it’s obvious that Rooney and Tompson changed the dynamic of our side yesterday so why did the manager not bother to play them in pre season ? My assumption is that he so fixed on his pre conceived viewpoints he can’t see what’s best for the players we have.

Enjoyed it today esp after Tuesday. Wasnt best display ever but we are in L1, prob a bit shell-shocked by 3 serious injuries and it was much more positive. After Tuesday good to see us trying to play ball on floor esp first half. Well worked goal, pleased Waggy working out well so far as was dubious - Conor really needs to do that far more often to get the ball back. Well done to Rooney and Thommo. More shaky as players tired but good game to build on.
Thought officials were inconsistent esp re bookings and on whole woeful. Def at least one penalty.
