Great result against a very good side, well coached by a manager recently sacked by the team 21st in League 2.

Which is why I think the sort of think the set up we kind of have with Warne greatly influencing the recruitment is kind of old fashioned. If you look at the modern examples of successful clubs living within their means Luton, Brighton, Brentford (theres more examples these are the most successful) they have all had a common link in which the recruitment is taken away from the manager nearly entirely. They have had managers come and go and it's not fazed them one bit. They have never had replace a whole XI because the new manager can't work with them. Managers kind come third now with philosophy - players - coach just because they usually last less than the players nowadays.
What happens to the recruitment when we lose Warne be it a sacking or moving to another club. Do we hire another Manager that plays the same as Warne or do we go another route and have to sign players to match that Managers style. I just don't think our recruitment set up is future proofed.

I think if the “restrictions” were particularly prohibitive the club should simply not come out and say they made a very good offer for a striker.
That way they can actually blame the “restrictions” without it looking like an excuse for being woefully underprepared and / or deleting every number in their phones except Dejphon Chansiri’s.

Get used to it. It’s another 6 months of excuses.

Thats fine but at no point since the summer has that been the message from the club so people are going to be disappointed.
If they’re at the limit of the business plan then just say that? Don’t tell everyone two weeks ago you’ve put in a very good offer for Michael Smith. If he is the only player they could identify with this very good offer then what on earth is going on. 
The optics of selling Bird are bad too. I’m sure it makes sense and the club shouldn’t be run on how things look externally, I admit, but it isn’t great. 

Not getting my knickers in a twist just yet but if we bring in a couple of million in and fail to get a striker it is really poor stuff.

I've no issue with the deal to let Bird go. Whatever, nobody stays forever (apart from our boy Fozzy).
My issue will be with us doing something stupid like caving in to Chansiri because our recruitment only appear to be working from a map of Yorkshire.

Stuck by the club when it was properly properly s***, could have done a Buchanon or a Byrne but didnt
Time for him to move on.. No problem with that, he's earned a move. Going to see out the season so that he doesn't leave the club in a tougher spot for the rest of the season and gives some money and time for Clowes to get him replaced, good on him. Best of luck and hope he gets a big pay rise!

How quickly this came out the blue means it’s hopefully someone not mentioned yet as the names don’t really inspire so far.

More "poorly used" than "limited"

I don’t think there is any bind, to be truthful.
Almost everything that happens football-wise is incredibly short term.
This is just another signing we make that anyone on this forum could think of within 5 minutes of being asked. Maybe he’s still alright, maybe he’s not but I find it incredibly uninspiring either way. 

Signing Gregory would be a relief. Was just starting to worry we were getting close to the squad’s average age dropping below 30.
