So we're back to the "I don't know anybody affected, therefore the problems are exaggerated" school of 'thought', are we?

He is sort of implicating himself, but with a few get outs. Like "I should have acted sooner, but if they had listened to me, we would have got other people involved earlier who would have made us act earlier".
There is a nice irony that the cabinet MPs who could just say Cummings is lying like with his Rose Garden statement, can't say that as they were all forced to back him up then.
Looking forward to when them come clean and admit that happened.
Cummings doesn't seem to be lying this time though, and imagine there are plenty of others who will back up what he is saying/documents exist saying the same.

To even it out - I know 5. Thankfully no one close, but relatives of friends &  work colleagues
It's like everything - hard to relate to it as real unless you have experienced it, or seen someone you know experience it. The innate human capability of being unable to see further than the end of their nose

Maybe not - but you're citing the work of conspiracy theorists desperately trying to find figures that play into their conviction that there is some sort of hoax going on. In some cases because they're just not very well and have too much time on their hands, and in other cases so that they can perpetuate their grift and make a tidy sum out of the whole thing by exploiting those who just desperately want to believe
So let's be clear - there is no need for FOI requests to councils for this info
    1) because councils only carry figures for council-owned crematoriums and not private
    2) the total figure for 2020 is already published by the Crematorium Society.

You won't be surprised to see that there were ~70k more cremations in 2020

And that the bloke on Twitter called "John M:Wrong Think Super Spreader" has piped down a bit

Not got one personally but we had a Playstation VR for a while and whilst they are pretty good gaming wise for me and my kids at least the novelty wore off pretty quick tbh.
The problem I have with any VR set is that you're sealed off from your surroundings (people in the same room, dogs, furniture, etc) and they take up a lot of space.  As you wear them for a bit you naturally shuffle around the room - then there is the problem of your flailing arms...
If you've got plenty of room to play (alone) and you don't mind the tedious setting up/putting away all the time they can be good fun.  If your console/computer is in the lounge that other people use or you share the headset with others it can get fairly annoying however.
Dunno about the OQ2 but the PSVR had good resale value so there was always that ?

Heard a theory a long time back that this lockdown is partly fuelled by Climate Change. Just stumbled across an Attenborough documentary on AppleTV where they’ve clearly been gathering footage from Day 1 of lockdown 1. Then just seen some Bill Gates foundation propaganda and it kind of makes a bit of sense.

What evidence is there of mass hysteria or the legions of terrified people that are being referred to in this thread? All I can see is people starting to return to their 'normal lives'. Seems to me that using terms like 'mass hysteria' is every bit as daft as the clickbait nonsense we see from the UK press.

It seems people get overly angry with the media when they know the government they vote for is hopeless. A strong, competent government would render this supposedly horrid media useless. But the government is not good.
Before the 1st wave, most of the media downplayed the danger, likewise the government. They were both wrong.
Before the 2nd wave, most of the media were regularly vilified for highlighting the dangers, whilst the government told us there was nothing to worry about.
We really want things to get back to normal now, but there are some potential dangers from the Indian variant. I wish we were able to make decisions based on scientific rationale, but that ship sailed years ago. Experts are now scum.
We, the people, get the politicians and the media we deserve. Your typical tabloid reader blames the tabloids for killing Diana without a hint of irony. We think all politicians are corrupt and self-serving then vote for those who don't even pretend not to be.
In 2027, we'll probably be saying that the media are terrible for saying the 18th wave could be as bad as the 17th one.
