Exactly this,a good example of lack of bravery last night when Hourihane collects the ball on the edge of the box with a chance to shoot on his favoured foot but decides to square it to Smith who I think has scored 3 goals in his last 300 odd games ,still early days and we  will get better.

A good interview from LR I think his frustration mirrors that expressed on the forum I do think that we are, at the moment, trying to keep possession of the ball at the expense of taking a chances, a player doesn't want to be the one to lose possession so he passes the ball rather that taking the half chance\shot presented to him.
We can only hope that as the team play more games together we begin to create and take more chances then convert those chances into goals.
Still a good start to the season.

Thanks to all of you for your ratings & comments which are always insightful. As the Great Man said "Derby folk know their football..."
    Summary
A few fans used the phrase "Cashin MOTM by a Country Mile", and that's precisely what the ratings show. His average mark was 8.67 which included two ratings of 10. The next closest was Hourihane with 6.97 then NML with 6.92. I have to say I was immensely impressed with Cashin's performance & was not surprised to hear his team mates applauded him in the dressing-room afterwards. He really stepped up in Curtis's absence. I'm not surprised though - I could see his quality when I first saw him at Notts County last year.
The team average rating was 6.64 {shown by the red dotted line). The average Team Aggregate Rating was 88. 2 which compares with 82.88 V Charlton, 83.6 V MTFC & 80.98 V OUFC.
The number of raters increased this time to 33 - the highest yet this season compared with next highest which was 26 versus OUFC.
We are accumulating a lot of potentially interesting statistics about player ratings, including by forum raters, so keep them coming.
I will do a year-to-date summary which will follow soon. It will be interesting to see if ratings pick up seasonal variation (in player form) or if they remain fairly static, reflecting rater bias. Ratings probably reflect a bit of both - so hard to differentiate. The Infographic is below:

Think last season on the very odd occasion we used the oppositions high press to sneak the left back very high up the pitch with a through ball direct from the keeper, we should use this more when it's on.

I’ve been a fierce critic of how Derby play out from the back. But I’m a massive fan of playing out from the back sensibly.
If you always go long from the back the opposition drops off, compressing the midfield making it very difficult to play through them. The rationale for playing out of defence is to draw your opponents onto you so there is space behind their players to exploit. It makes perfect sense, but the players need to understand why they are doing it.
Often Derby try to play out from the back when we are outnumbered by our attacking opponents, who are pressing us very high. They do this because they’ve seen how we play, know we don’t do things as we should and are very likely to give them goal-scoring opportunities high up the pitch. What we need to understand in this situation is that the job is already done. We have maybe four attackers pressing our two or three defenders so there is already space available upfield and risk-free we can play over the heads of these onrushing opposition forwards and start our own attacks. Instead we often see Wildsmith try to thread a pass through three opposition forwards to one defender who is already under pressure. Madness.
It's the same for our short goal kicks. When opponents are already grinning in anticipation on the edge of our penalty area waiting to charge, just go long over their heads as we already have created the space and outnumber them up the field. Don’t risk a short pass across our own six-yard area for no additional benefit, but only potential disaster.
Sometimes we see the press, for instance at goalkicks or when Wildsmith has the ball at his feet, and we decide it’s simply too risky to play through it and to go long instead. But we do this in the most infuriating way possible by announcing to our opponents that we are going to go long. So Wildsmith with gesture for our defenders to run up the field towards the halfway line before he kicks. Thereby allowing our opponents to also run back towards the halfway line and compressing the game. In this situation we should always be trying to fool the opposition by going long when they think we are going to play it short.
Ultimately, the secret to effectively playing out from the back is variety. When your opponents know you will try to play out no matter what, they will always press because it is risk-free for them.
Finally, once we break our opponent’s press, the golden rule should be to never turn back. If we have left many of our opponents behind us and have the chance to attack at pace, it must always be taken. Sometimes that means being braver with the pass we play or carrying the ball. Instead, all too often we turn around, and end up playing the ball all the way back to our defenders or keeper, only to be pressed again and try to beat the press again, when we just have but didn’t capitalize on it.

If anyone is interested, I emailed Emma at DCFC and wondered if, as suggested by others, shortening the window for each category could be an option in order to allow enough time for postal dispatch for those of us lower down the priority list.
She has just phoned me this morning - very apologetic and explained this was due to the unusually late receipt of tickets from Shrewsbury. It shouldn’t happen too often but, if it does, it will always be because the home club is late sending them.
Only time will tell if it is a regular or rare occurrence but hopefully this post (non pun intended) will avoid us all bombarding DCFC with the same query/suggestion.

Thanks to all of you for your ratings.
    Summary
Statistically, Sibley was MOTM V Mansfield with an average rating of 7.33. He really is now difficult to leave out of the starting line-up and I sense a big goal coming for Sibley. Will it be Saturday? He really has got the bit between his teeth right now.
He pipped Rooney who scored a very respectable 7.22. What a great debut. Wildsmith has been attracting very good ratings in all matches so no surprise to see him up there.
Average rating for the team was 6.47, higher than for Charlton (6.34) but lower than for Oxford United (6.75). This is shown by the red dotted line on the chart, so players above the line are the "form" players at the moment.
Despite only a few minutes on the pitch NML also attracted the highest rating (8) and also a high above-average rating of 7.0.
After this weekend's game, I will publish year-to-date ratings for all players as well as the summary match ratings.
It will be interesting to see if the ratings go up as the Team fitness builds and we start to see a settled side evolve. I don't think the Team is far off, midfield still needs more energy and physicality; I sense that if we get a full-back, shift Knight to midfield, and get McGoldrick alongside Collins, we will start to see some paint peeled off the walls with blistering football. Tantalizing. ?

The easiest solution would be to get the tickets on sale earlier, maybe this will be resolved by the next away game.

The priority system is fine and completely just. The length of the windows are the issue because tickets are being released so late. Everybody buying tickets should be able to do before the postal deadline IMO.

leroyoftherovers reacted to Sussex Ram in Away Tickets - 2022/23
I’ve emailed the ticket office today, on the matter of timing of away tickets coming on sale. Taking Shrewsbury as an example, fans who cannot get to Pride Park and buy in person are essentially excluded from buying a ticket- unless they are away members with 5+ games last year. For anyone else, there isn’t enough time to post the tickets, as they come on sale either 3 or 1 days before the match (depending on whether you are an away member or not).
This doesn’t just include non-Derby based fans; it includes anyone who can’t get to Pride Park due to mobility issues or lack of transport.
My proposed solution would be to give only 24 hours between each “tranche” of fans (20/15/10/5 games) getting access to tickets, rather than 48 hours. This (rightly, in my opinion) still gives the more travelled fans priority, whilst also giving all fans a fighting chance of getting a ticket on general sale.
I know that a lot of away games will sell out before they get to general sale, due to small allocations and lots of loyal fans, but the principle is important. And there will be matches with larger allocations where this could be a real problem- we could end up with tickets going unsold as they don’t leave enough time to post out tickets to those buying on general sale.
    Thoughts welcome.

Sadly, for a lot of games it's probably not going to be be an issue as tickets won't reach that category.
