Some suggestions if you have Netflix:
Heavy shows: When They See Us, Unbelievable
Courtroom dramas: Suits, How to Get Away With Murder, The Good Wife
If you need something light to watch with the wife (and secretly enjoy): Love is Blind, The Circle (French version), GLOW
If you liked 13 Reasons Why, you might like: Elite, Baby, Quicksand
If you liked Tiger King, you might like: Don’t duck with Cats
If you like unhinged character centric shows, you might like: You, American Crime Story season 2
If you like American comedy shows, you might like: Atypical, Kominsky Method
Foreign films that I really enjoyed: The Climb, The Invisible Guest, The Platform
'You'... Was recommended it, I squirmed through 2 episodes and its quite possibly the most nauseating, contrived, rip off, grating, stylised pile of pap I have ever seen.

I don’t get it. What film did you watch?
Is it that Tom Hanks film... 'Big'.
Where a grown man plays with kid's toys?
- Mostyn6 and Steve How Hard?

We do.
Noted and appreciated. Thank you. ?
Seen them both. Very similar and watchable.

I watched all of Lost recently @Eddie...
I enjoyed it really....its a big time investment though. Probably a decent compromise between heavy, quality drama like Gomorrah, True Detective and more fluffy mainstream tv soaps.
Characters and acting are pretty decent, settings are nice, interesting story lines at times.. and Kate mmmmhhhh...so just try to ignore the pseudo science and daft story lines.

Several people suggested 'The Last Dance', the series about the Chicago Bulls 97/98 NBA season. Said you didn't need to be a basketball fan, just a great series.
Watched a couple of episodes...its watchable enough so far, but don't think it transcends the sport in interest really.
-
The Professor and the Madman.
Big cast, worthy story, well acted...but ultimately hard to really care. 6/10
Bit like The Current War..its something that is interesting but doesn't really translate as a big budget film.

Yes I appreciate that. I guess I’m not comfortable watching supposed gangland violence that looks like it has been choreographed by MCHammer.
I’m an old fart and I know there’s a massive market for this type of thing. I note that its two directors come from a martial arts movie background so it was always going to be this stylised violence.
Not for me but each to their own.
Interesting analysis... I think I may feel the same then. I'm not keen on that overly stylised violence, prefer realism... not sure what that says about me.
I also can't really bond with John Wick type stuff. One guy killing a 100 other highly trained assassins at the same time with a tiny flicks of the wrist before a huge standoff with the main villain that goes on forever. Can't get invested in it...just bores me and I find I don't care what happens.

It's a lot of fun.
If you've not already, check out Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. If you liked El Chapo they should be right up your street.
Yep, watched them first. Think they have very slowly become less gripping as I have worked through them but still worth a watch. Escobar's were the most watchable episodes for me.

Ooops! ?
Giri / Haji. It's on Netflix.
Oh right. Am just done with El Chapo now, so may give it a whirl.

The characterisation was a standout for me. I loved the fact that it had a start, middle and end too, despite the timeline hopping, with no obvious tee up for further series. That said, I'd love it if they did another with all the characters converging in Tokyo this time. I can just see it now!
Now we've talked it up so much I hope other people like it!
Reminder of the name of the series would be handy ??

Worth a fiver, or best to let it hit Sky Movies?
(Knives Out) As I have said I think... saw it at the cinema and thought it was great. Watched it again with the kids and was surprised by how cleverly interwoven the story was...so much so I realised I had missed some of the intricacies. Great cast, hamming it up, a real hoot. 8.5/10

Lost In Translation - Bob Malcolm out of 5.
Utter 1/10 and that's entirely for Scarlett Johansson's presence.
Oh and maybe a mention for some nice camera work showing the cool road in Tokyo that's on Gran Turismo.
Was really well regarded and the missus was trying to make me watch it again the other day as she loves it, but I really thought it was dull.
Jungle - Daniel Radcliffe in a true story of someone who gets lost in the jungle. Actually really enjoyed it. Thought they really recreated how it would have felt. Not one for the kids. 7.5/10
-
I'm worried... first my missus suggested I take up boxing and now she is insisting that I call her Adrienne....
I'm think that we're heading for another Rocky patch...

Yes,obviously I can’t comment on here but I have met him.
I know he does a lot for charity.
Is this in support of someone who appears decent in person however stupid or just mitigating as you haven't got other positive things to say?

Watched 20 minutes on my lunch, this Charlie Methven is already set himself up as an uber rick!!! Wanting the team to come out to the theme to The Apprentice ? You can practically see those young lads in the office dying to tell him it's a crap idea...
#gold
Is a total *******.
But didnt they always come out to the Apprentice music... He wanted them to change it to Ibiza trance tunes and was very Dad-cringe about it.

One of the first things I'm gonna do when all this is over is throw a fancy dress party round my gaff, and I'm already sourcing stuff to dress as Joe Exotic. What a legend ? The Mrs will have to be Carole, who's the real nutter in the whole story...
Hoping my invite is in the post...need to lose a few teeth first though to get into character.

The Platform
Finding it really hard to rate. Definitely put me off food...(well for at least 30 mins, I am permanently hungry and home working ain't helping).
Pretty overt messages about greed, selfishness, capitalism. Definitely gave pause for thought and I feel like it needed a follow up. Maybe reminded me of 'Cube' , very claustrophobic and grim but never dull.
Mercurial Kris Commons - 7/10

I had an idea for a movie plot where a retired CIA agent searches for his kidnapped daughter in Paris, but it turns out that idea was taken.
I had another idea for one where the same agent is kidnapped with his wife in Istanbul, but it turns out that one was taken too.

Hunters - have watched first 2 episodes, really great viewing so far.
Tarrantino-esque, but not to excess.
-
Parasite
8/10. Tricky to take out the hype/knowledge that it is so highly regarded because if it were on tv I probably would have flicked on and after 2 mins thought it was a bit slow and turned over.
Had the feel of a play almost. No huge budget, no expensive set pieces or hollywood stars. Just a tight, claustrophobic story that had the sense of a parable or fable to me. Good acting and best seen without too much idea of the content.

Rate the last film you saw partie deux
in The Jim Smith Room
Posted
Saw it with the kids....think we all gave it 6-7 out of 10.
Lots of interesting ideas but felt like it was mish-mash of tie-ins, name drops, product placement and not much soul.
