Its sonething like this...
In 07/08 the stadium was revalued from a historical cost of £20odd million to a replacement cost valuation of £55m and a revaluation reserve created (under the old accounting rules, pre FRS102).
Over the years to 2017/18 the £55m was depreciated down to c£40m and then of course sold for c£80m. The accounting profit of £40m being included in our P&S submission (and of course is now accepted as being 100% valid).
The remaining revaluation reserve of c£30m transferred to the P&L reserve as the stadium had now been sold and the profit realised.
I believe it is suggested that the issue bought up during the various hearings is that rather than including a profit c£40m in our P&S submission, should our revised P&S submission actually include a stadium profit of c£70m, being the c£40m profit plus the c£30m unused revaluation reserve realised on the sale.
IE. Should profit on sale of stadium actually be:
1) Sale price less historical cost
Or
2) Sale price less net book value
Probably #1 but our original submission has used #2.

But were the highest spending clubs you are using a comparative measure against in receipt of parachute payments?
And are any of those same clubs now still in the Championship? Or were promoted to the Premiership after this time and may have subsequently been relegated again?

Don’t you detect the feeling that we will restate the accounts in the way we and our auditors believe is compliant with accountancy standards, doesn’t necessarily mean it will comply the elf’s view of what is the correct methodology. All these games are killing us though, we could win this war only to find it was just a battle

I don't think we will get a retrospective penalty, and if we are FFP compliant then we will not get a points penalty at all. However our inability to keep and buy players will be are undoing

well it didn't work, I hoped it would. I wish him all the best, I hope he gets better and gets on the grass as he still has the chance to have a good career.

I think your guesswork is right, no idea if by design or accident but EFL need to look at what they are doing. Innocence until proven guilty should be the rule here, not 2 years of embargoes that could have a worse effect than a points deduction

as it stands maintaining Championship status in 2021/2 would be a Great Escape.

Sounds reasonable to me,
Having read the relevant accounting rules I cannot understand how they come up with the opinion that we were in breach of them. I understand that it is not the done practice of a football club to immortalise that way but that's a different question.
We shot ourselves in the foot by not producing our own expert witness (was there a bit of Hubris there?)
The EFL are in a pickle but as you say they relied on honesty. If the EFL ask for accounts so that they can audit them, they should do so, in not finding this sooner they have not performed their duties properly, but we equally should have been more transparent about what we were doing.
I just want tis over and done with so we can move on, I also wish the other clubs supporters and indeed the clubs themselves would understand the facts and not jump to conclusions.

the core problem was mentioned by @sagewhich I was replying to. If we had made some effort to properly record how we did it I think it would have helped our case. As it is it looks desperate and designed to kick the can until we found some magic beans which we did when we sold PP.

it didn't help that the EFL put in Pope as an expert and we didn't. the fact that we had to declare additional figures in 2020 as the amortisation figures were not working didnt help

I think the EFL need to recruit some staff as I guess there are a number of clubs such as Stoke that will be trying to be creative with Covid debt. Just think next season could start off with half of the Championship on -12 points

Woodley Ram got a reaction from RadioactiveWaste in Wycombe threaten to sue and send us into admin. if we stay up!
it wouldn't work anyway. Any judge would say the affected period where we 'allegedly' over spent was prior to Wycombe being in the Championship so wouldn't affect them. DCFC could not be penalised for the EFL disciplinary process. we certainly didn't overspend last season
