Less 20 million lost revenue on Covid and catastrophic player re valuations because of that .. Derby won’t be the first with this problem. It remains to be seen if the EFL chase others with the same vigour. I am not excusing Mel. His failures are huge and demonstrable but perspective is crucial.

At the time, Mel indicated that the Butterfield and Johnson purchases were funded by insurance on Hughes and Bryson. There were lots of questions, but we never did get any details. Given that spin, it's hardly surprising that most fans were impressed. Mel appeared both ambitious and prudent.

It’s not about affection it’s about seeing things with accuracy rather than gut, in the moment emotion. We are all hurting but road rage isn’t constructive, logical or reflective of the whole story which is vastly complex.

Well perhaps you should. I see nothing weak in noting that empty vessels make the most noise. I was pretty sure at the time that the Butterfield / Johnson purchase was skewed and the later Chris Martin long contract seemed at odds with FFP but assumed the pro finance people knew what they were doing. Mel failed on that score .. big time. They were his people. He deserves criticism and vilification but a heck of a lot of folk didn’t care at the time  ., they were greatful that Mel had seemingly deep pockets and cheered to the rafters. I haven’t the will to sift through 4 years of posts … but they know who they are ! And I’d bet some of them are crucifying Mel right now.

I also thought that Ed did really well, @Derbados and I thought he got a fair amount back from Mel given the volatlvity of the last couple of days.  Everything is not black and white and the truth often lies in between. I thought his answers were insightful and interesting. I thought Ed did well to put some probing questions. At the same time he was polite and courteous and his non-aggressive questioning led to an interesting and open interview.

But how many of his detractors now were the ones saying “Uncle Mel” .. “pay what it costs” .. “yeaaarrr we got our man” .. “genius attracting Lampard” .. “Wayne ducking Rooney” etc etc etc
He has effed up big time. His legacy is failure, reckless foolishness, lousy decision making, misplaced trust and dire, desperate uncertainty. No equivocation.
but he wasn't and isn’t the 3 amigos and there are a lot of folk spitting bile on here that need to look at their own changing views over his tenure.

I said the same to my son this morning if the EFL treat everyone the same which they obviously don’t I bet 1/2 of the division isn’t squeaky clean so it should look a farce but I bet it doesn’t and it will be just cheating Derby minus x amount of points.
