Genuinely like to hear the thoughts to that.

Three absolute abject performances all on our own patch reminiscent of Nigel Pearson’s time in charge, if not worse. Not forgetting the damp end to last season.

There isn’t any hint of it improving anywhere on the pitch and the manager seems to think 352 is the way forward regardless.

The league is weaker and we seemed to have regressed in 12 months. Rosenior bumping into players in July and persuading them so sign and chucking a squad together was better than this.

We were told we had a significant budget. If he’s blown it on these new players, how is this retrievable?

Can’t see two youth loans (which is where we are likely shopping) like White and Springett improving it.

I also think we are well over “bantz” interviews now.

Time to get serious with this club and it’s ambitions whilst the window is still open.

Damp end to last season came about when Warne started playing 3 centrebacks. When we had our good run under Warne he played 4 at the back. Now this formation with the current new faces are all lacking pace at the back and are getting caught out on counter attacks. We also need a goalscorer and this was obvious even from last season and Warne moaned that some targets went elsewhere. Derby are a big club, why could'nt we get them in. Could it be our manager, tactics etc not being the attraction.

For me the season don’t start really till about mid September. By then the transfer window is shut, new signings are getting up to speed, any less serious injuries from pre season are clearing up. And isn’t October usually where we start to click?

If we wait till October before we start to click, we will be playing catch up and we would have played nearly a quarter of the season's league games. Plus the first game in October is Blackpool away !!!!!!!

Technically, you're right... But we don't have "a big club like Derby with a 4 year project waiting to get out of League One", and nobody I know of (In a senior position within the club) has ever insinuated such a project, to my knowledge, so why air such a moot point?

I was replying to a comment made by MarsdenRam stating the memo from David Clowes of the 4 year project

Clowes doesn’t strike me as a man who is in the business of sacking a manager with 3 years on his contract. He’s not a typical football owner and seems to have a good relationship with Warne, so this is definitely a thread very wide of the mark. Look, from the fans point of view, anything less than promotion this season is a sackable offense and so it should be - I’m just not sure Clowes will be the one that instigates it. I feel there will be an amicable parting of ways at the end of the season if the club are still a League One side.

Unless there is a good system in place at this club, it likely gets relegated from the Championship anyway. We have the benefit of having the biggest budget in the league at this level this season, but it would be one of the smallest in the championship.

Yes, it would be the best for the club if we fail to get promotion that Warne and his coaching staff just sever their contracts and walk away.

Some people clearly didn't get the memo from David Clowes.

It's a four year project for Warne and his team.

Get used to it for better or worse.

You can't have a big club like Derby having a 4 year project wating to get out League One. The crowds will drop and lose heart if we have to spend next season in the same League.

  6. I was one on this forum against having Warne as the Manager when Rosenior got elbowed out the door. I'm not going to state we could have done better with Liam, that we will never know. My biggest moan was forum members were all bleating on about his 3 promotions with Rotherham, but failed to mention the 2 relegations. They had a team that basically were good enough to compete at the top end of League one but got found out in the Championship.

Now that Warne's been a manager for approx 6 years and seems to have one style of play (3 at the back with wingbacks), it looks like other coaches know how to beat it. When Warne first took over at Derby, with the squad he inherited he could not play 3 CB's and played more often with 4 at the back. We shot up the league, looked odds on to finish easily in the top 4 positions. Then he tinkered with the team and we finished 7th.

I for one, was gobsmacked that he was appointed with a 4 year contract, getting rid now or later this season will cost the club (financially). I will still follow and support the team and hope we do get promotion come the end of the season, but this manager needs to have a plan B when his high press energy game with 3 CB's is'nt working in certain games.

Here is a question: how much impact do you think defensive mistakes have had on us so far this season? Personally, I believe we conceded at key moments against Wigan from catastrophic mistakes which massively impacted on our performances. Tonight wasn't good, again another defensive error. The senior professionals making these mistakes should be the one receiving the flack.

Looking at our current back line including the wingbacks, it's mainly fresh faces that have come in. Yes, there will be mistakes with stray back passes and misunderstandings on positioning of defending etc. Until they get to play and train more, that's when the cohesion will develop. We've played 2 matches against 2 teams that were playing in the Championship last season and conceded 4 goals of which 3 were defensive mistakes. If it continues within the next 4 to 6 games, then Warne needs to sack his defensive coach.

  8. I feel the answer to getting a goal scorer in will be through the loan market and that will happen within the last couple or so days before the window shuts, when Premiership and Championship sides have decided which of their young talents can go out on loan. The current strikers we have will probably score similar amount of goals between them.  Meaning Collins, Waghorn and Washington will all get around 10 goals.  Maybe Dujuane Brown could be the answer and hopefully Mendez-Lang, Barkhuizen and Sibley will all chip in, the latter two when fit again.

Not heard the interview yet so can’t comment too strongly.

But from reading everyone’s comments it just leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

We’re no closer to bringing in a decent striker and selling players is pointless, other than to look good on the bank statement.

Really struggling to see why so many are optimistic for this season.

The bookies have us down as favourites, most betting companies don't get it wrong. So why are you struggling.

  10. Bookies have the Rams down as favourites with the likes of Bolton, Portsmouth, Barnsley, Peterboro and Blackpool.  Oxford, so far have had a good transfer window. Will there be a surprise team that the bookies have not picked ? Currenly Reading F.C. are with some bookies at 12/1, but they face a fresh embargo having not sorted their taxes with HRMC. There is even a rumour that the 4 recent players they have signed are currently not been registered with the EFL. Could they be facing another relegation season instead. I fancy Charlton to be a outside bet on being in the running, but maybe a promotion contender rather than being the champions of League One.

And they said we'd not sign a forward

You know, I think he could be the surprise package for the Rams this season and if he scores early on in the season after coming off the bench, Warne will be pushed not to give him more chances.

Regarding Derby County 1-3 Sheff Utd. I thought we played well when we moved the ball around in triangle shapes and at times looked bright and positive.

Hourihane has the quality but frustrates a lot when not even looking forward on many occasions to put us on the front foot and create, instead choosing to pass it back where it has come from. I understand keeping possession and keeping the ball moving, but a lot of the time we opt to let the opposition get back into shape, when we could opt for quick attacking through balls, or balls out wide or onto other midfield players to counter attack. Maybe the lack of pace we have in our attackers forces players to turn around so much, and signing Waghorn would only reinforce this. Not sure how quick Washington is but his movement in the box was good when he should of scored.

Nelson and Bradley continued to look good for us, and hopefully Wilson will get more game time, to get up to speed, he currently looks unfit and bulky up top and was slow to do anything with the goals. Ward again put a cross or two into the box and looks to do the right things. Hopefully Elder gets fit soon, so we get to see him and maybe he gets back in defence, where Cashin switched off for the first goal, and we might have not been caught out for the third, when Smith stopped and played for offside.

So taking the first and third Sheff Utd goals out of the game, a 1-1 result could have been achieved against a Premiership side, which shows to me at this stage, we are looking alright, and a midfielder/striker with pace and aggression in both positions with PW stating 2/3 more players are required, and I would think that makes our team very strong and very capable of gaining promotion this season.

We looked alright with the EFL ball, conceding one soft goal but we looked better with the Premiership ball, conceding 2 goals.

    So onwards and upwards.

I thought their 3rd goal was offside, even Korey raised his arm.

I think two words define this season: fine margins. Since February, we’ve fallen on the wrong side of them every time.

The players gave everything today and the performance was a creditable one. The game hinged on one mistake and sometimes in football that’s all it takes.

Some might deem this season a failure and the anti-Warne sentiment will no doubt be in overdrive over the coming days and weeks, but it’s needless.

Personally I don’t think at any point we’ve looked like one of the three best teams in the division, so I don’t think there should be much of a hangover if any at all. The signs have been there that it is simply one season too soon.

We just have to lick our wounds, regroup quickly, have a positive rebuild over the summer and go out and finish in the top two in 23-24.

Not going into the Championship with this group of players and under financial restrictions could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

I said this a few weeks ago and the sentiment remains - this is where Warne’s work really starts.

Good post, I was speaking to my brother after the game today and he made similar comments to what you have stated. Getting promoted whilst under some sort of business plan (Alleged to be reviewed soon) would have seen us struggle in the Championship.

can anyone confirm are we out of the business plan this summer ( i have seen conflicting statements)

I read somewhere that a few weeks back, there had been dialogue between the club and EFL and any review would not take place until the season had finished and also which league Derby would be in. The Rams have made money this season and it was better than the expected business plan that was agreed between the club and the EFL.

I feel the Business Plan will be reviewed and some restrictions will be altered, but we will have to wait and see. Hopefully the review is done ASAP, so the club can do some early recruitment.

I struggle to share your taste for facing Barnsley - I went to the away match, and we were absolutely no match for them. But we played them off the park a few weeks earlier in a cup match, so who knows? Certainly not me!

Good stats to look at: One with Derby in the play-offs and one with Peterboro. Interesting to see we currently have lost the least, unless we lose at Wednesday, then its all square. Peterboro record is pants  having lost 4, lets hope it stays that way.

  16. I know Peterboro have won more games than the Rams, but do they deserve to have a chance in the play-offs having lost a massive 17 matches. It would be a travesty if we fail on Sunday afternoon and the Posh nick it. I'm hoping we win at Wednesday, Peterboro result won't matter and Bristol Rovers beat Bolton. I fancy the Rams against Barnsley over 2 legs especially having the home game first.

So come on Derby, beat Wednesday and lets see where it takes us.

  17. 6 hours ago, LeedsCityRam said:

So you're comfortable if we get beat at Hillsborough then? By the way, stating Peterborough's record against the 'top 9' looks highly selective. The highest placed team we have beaten away is Exeter in 14th, Peterborough have beaten higher placed teams Lincoln & Shrewsbury away from home. They've also shown themselves comfortable against top 6 by walloping Plymouth 5-2 & beating Sheff Weds.

The uncertainty you allude to is mostly due to not knowing how many players (if any) Barnsley or Sheff Wed will rest or their motivation for the game. In an ordinary scenario, both Derby & Peterborough would be outsiders given their records to date..which is my point certainly with respect to Derby.

The stats don't come into it when its a one of game for Derby & Peterboro. They both need to win, Barnsley & Wednesday don't. So it's a bit like a cup match for the current 6th and 7th placed team. Once that's decided and sorted its more cup games for 4 teams, you just have to ignore stats and see what happens.

That’s a good summary. Bolton’s result is relevant too in terms of we could still finish 5th, if we win and they lose their last game, we’d leapfrog them into 5th.

That's possible with an away fixture to Bristol Rovers for Bolton and Sheffield Weds with nothing to play for and possibily wanting to rest key players ready for their play-off fixtures.
