Paul Warne's appointment was David Clowes' choice. It's his prerogative as owner, just as it will be his prerogative alone to decide how long Paul Warne stays as the manager of the club. In my view the whole purpose of this poll was a waste of time because the outcome will carry no weight at all. The decision ultimately rests on the single vote of David Clowes in the boardroom, not on here.

Paul Warne would not have been my choice but he's here now and while he is I'll support him until such time he gives me ample reason not to, if it ever gets to that stage; the only manager in over 60 years who exhausted my patience was Tommy Docherty. A few others went and when the time came, I didn't disagree with the decision.

I voted, for what it's worth, i.e. nothing, for 'Not even close to questioning his future at Derby.'

My reason was because it will all rest with David Clowes and I don't see Warne leaving any time soon. Clowes came in preaching stability and prudence and having a five-years rebuilding project in which, for the manager, instant promotion wasn't conditional. Under Mel, Warne would have likely gone after the Ipswich home defeat on April Fool's Day, which was on the back of the home defeats to Fleetwood and away at Peterborough. Clowes has to practice what he preached otherwise some will think he's as unstable as Mel. I think he would be damaged image wise in the football world if he fires Warne too soon and he wouldn't want that. Would he be able to look the next manager in the eye and say "Trust me?" I think not.

That's my opinion and others won't agree and nor should they. It's an opinion, not a fact.

The decision on a single vote by Clowes in the boardroom does not come into effect, it's done by board of directors. David Clowes will only get the single casting vote if the result is tied.

This summer's window was the first chance Warne had to operate in the transfer market. So from his point of view it's just a one season transition so far. I sincerely hope that at the end of this window he feels he has a squad capable of making a realistic challenge for promotion this season. I think that is the realistic hope of most of us and if you are waiting until next season until we mount a challenge then you are out of sync with the expectations of Warne, Clowes and the majority of the fanbase.

You keep applying opinions to people that they haven't expressed. More strawman nonsense.

Well when Warne stated last season as a failure, when not getting into the top 6 and I would assume David Clowes and definitely most of the fans would have expected to be in the play-off frame at least. We went from the 18th Feb when we beat Charlton 2-0 at home to finish with only 5 more wins out of our 15 remaining games.

  3. The blog started by David is your opinion of whether we should stick with him or give until October, December or end of the season etc. I for one was not happy when we took on Paul Warne and I gave my reasons from day one. But at the moment we are stuck with him and his team of coaches. His tactics/style/formation etc will only work with quality players that also have pace and lots of energy. I think the centre backs are good quality but lack pace. Warne needs to make the squad/team more adaptable and if he can't do this, then he his a one trick pony.

I hope i am wrong and our manager can alter/adapt against each opposition that we play against. Even our big 4-2 win at Peterboro was not overly convincing, had the Posh frontline had their shooting boots on in the chances they created it could have been a different result. And before any forum member states we were better than the Posh, that was only down to being more clinical on the day. They had more possession, shots and shots on target than us. We had Waggy who was at his best, scoring his 5th hat-trick of his career. Lets not forget, Forsyth was the one that wanted Waggy at his pre-season testimonial and perhaps Warne got lucky.

We could lose v Peterborough and Bolton and then win the next four.

We could beat Peterborough and Bolton but then lose the next four.

    What would we learn?

Fixating on these games is meaningless when Cambridge are top and Stevenage are in the top six.

Warne will earn his wage by what he and the team does in the next 42 games, not two.

Whatever happens in the next two, these early results underline how important it is to stay calm.

Winning games, even early in the season does help though. Playing catch up is not that easy.

Maybe it's because as a successful businessman Clowes has seen the value in recruiting people with a track record of success and saw that to be no different for a football manager or someone managing his own business.

    Weird concept huh

Judging by your comments and replies to others on this forum, you are very pro- Warne. Yes Warne got 3 promotions with the same team, but got found out in the Championship with 2 relegations. We are all followers of our club and hope to have success, we need to have a coach/manager that can make changes when needed. If Clowes thinks he's got the right man to steer the ship, then lets hope he can alter the course we are on. 3 defeats at home and a win against a small club like Burton, does have fans worrying if David Clowes made the right choice.

Yes, we are probably stuck with the current manager and his coaches with their 4 year contract. Lets hope he can make changes with tactics, formations and signings to improve the current plight. If this does'nt happen, then expect forum members to have their moans.

Genuinely like to hear the thoughts to that.

Three absolute abject performances all on our own patch reminiscent of Nigel Pearson’s time in charge, if not worse. Not forgetting the damp end to last season.

There isn’t any hint of it improving anywhere on the pitch and the manager seems to think 352 is the way forward regardless.

The league is weaker and we seemed to have regressed in 12 months. Rosenior bumping into players in July and persuading them so sign and chucking a squad together was better than this.

We were told we had a significant budget. If he’s blown it on these new players, how is this retrievable?

Can’t see two youth loans (which is where we are likely shopping) like White and Springett improving it.

I also think we are well over “bantz” interviews now.

Time to get serious with this club and it’s ambitions whilst the window is still open.

Damp end to last season came about when Warne started playing 3 centrebacks. When we had our good run under Warne he played 4 at the back. Now this formation with the current new faces are all lacking pace at the back and are getting caught out on counter attacks. We also need a goalscorer and this was obvious even from last season and Warne moaned that some targets went elsewhere. Derby are a big club, why could'nt we get them in. Could it be our manager, tactics etc not being the attraction.

For me the season don’t start really till about mid September. By then the transfer window is shut, new signings are getting up to speed, any less serious injuries from pre season are clearing up. And isn’t October usually where we start to click?

If we wait till October before we start to click, we will be playing catch up and we would have played nearly a quarter of the season's league games. Plus the first game in October is Blackpool away !!!!!!!

Technically, you're right... But we don't have "a big club like Derby with a 4 year project waiting to get out of League One", and nobody I know of (In a senior position within the club) has ever insinuated such a project, to my knowledge, so why air such a moot point?

I was replying to a comment made by MarsdenRam stating the memo from David Clowes of the 4 year project

Clowes doesn’t strike me as a man who is in the business of sacking a manager with 3 years on his contract. He’s not a typical football owner and seems to have a good relationship with Warne, so this is definitely a thread very wide of the mark. Look, from the fans point of view, anything less than promotion this season is a sackable offense and so it should be - I’m just not sure Clowes will be the one that instigates it. I feel there will be an amicable parting of ways at the end of the season if the club are still a League One side.

Unless there is a good system in place at this club, it likely gets relegated from the Championship anyway. We have the benefit of having the biggest budget in the league at this level this season, but it would be one of the smallest in the championship.

Yes, it would be the best for the club if we fail to get promotion that Warne and his coaching staff just sever their contracts and walk away.

Some people clearly didn't get the memo from David Clowes.

It's a four year project for Warne and his team.

Get used to it for better or worse.

You can't have a big club like Derby having a 4 year project wating to get out League One. The crowds will drop and lose heart if we have to spend next season in the same League.

  11. I was one on this forum against having Warne as the Manager when Rosenior got elbowed out the door. I'm not going to state we could have done better with Liam, that we will never know. My biggest moan was forum members were all bleating on about his 3 promotions with Rotherham, but failed to mention the 2 relegations. They had a team that basically were good enough to compete at the top end of League one but got found out in the Championship.

Now that Warne's been a manager for approx 6 years and seems to have one style of play (3 at the back with wingbacks), it looks like other coaches know how to beat it. When Warne first took over at Derby, with the squad he inherited he could not play 3 CB's and played more often with 4 at the back. We shot up the league, looked odds on to finish easily in the top 4 positions. Then he tinkered with the team and we finished 7th.

I for one, was gobsmacked that he was appointed with a 4 year contract, getting rid now or later this season will cost the club (financially). I will still follow and support the team and hope we do get promotion come the end of the season, but this manager needs to have a plan B when his high press energy game with 3 CB's is'nt working in certain games.

Here is a question: how much impact do you think defensive mistakes have had on us so far this season? Personally, I believe we conceded at key moments against Wigan from catastrophic mistakes which massively impacted on our performances. Tonight wasn't good, again another defensive error. The senior professionals making these mistakes should be the one receiving the flack.

Looking at our current back line including the wingbacks, it's mainly fresh faces that have come in. Yes, there will be mistakes with stray back passes and misunderstandings on positioning of defending etc. Until they get to play and train more, that's when the cohesion will develop. We've played 2 matches against 2 teams that were playing in the Championship last season and conceded 4 goals of which 3 were defensive mistakes. If it continues within the next 4 to 6 games, then Warne needs to sack his defensive coach.

  13. I feel the answer to getting a goal scorer in will be through the loan market and that will happen within the last couple or so days before the window shuts, when Premiership and Championship sides have decided which of their young talents can go out on loan. The current strikers we have will probably score similar amount of goals between them.  Meaning Collins, Waghorn and Washington will all get around 10 goals.  Maybe Dujuane Brown could be the answer and hopefully Mendez-Lang, Barkhuizen and Sibley will all chip in, the latter two when fit again.

Not heard the interview yet so can’t comment too strongly.

But from reading everyone’s comments it just leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

We’re no closer to bringing in a decent striker and selling players is pointless, other than to look good on the bank statement.

Really struggling to see why so many are optimistic for this season.

The bookies have us down as favourites, most betting companies don't get it wrong. So why are you struggling.

  15. Bookies have the Rams down as favourites with the likes of Bolton, Portsmouth, Barnsley, Peterboro and Blackpool.  Oxford, so far have had a good transfer window. Will there be a surprise team that the bookies have not picked ? Currenly Reading F.C. are with some bookies at 12/1, but they face a fresh embargo having not sorted their taxes with HRMC. There is even a rumour that the 4 recent players they have signed are currently not been registered with the EFL. Could they be facing another relegation season instead. I fancy Charlton to be a outside bet on being in the running, but maybe a promotion contender rather than being the champions of League One.

And they said we'd not sign a forward

You know, I think he could be the surprise package for the Rams this season and if he scores early on in the season after coming off the bench, Warne will be pushed not to give him more chances.
