Of course I can.. I’ve watched Derby play absolutely diabolically so many times.. even when we were finishing top 6

If people didn't watch these channels/visit their websites/buy their newspapers/follow their social media, then they would all stop being overblown, scare-mongering, frenzy-driven PR machines for the World's biggest corporate/political interests.
Unfortunately most people do at least one of these things. I, unfortunately, read the BBC website every day at work and it's just as bad as the rest. But you learn to sift out the 90% BS and take away the 10% of the story that is true/useful to know.
What's the old saying? Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see... unfortunately encouraging critical thinking and independent thought is not high on most Government's to do lists.
Last thing the Governments of the world want is the plebs getting ideas above their stations.
COVID is real and awful, however like most things, it has been weaponised by political parties on all sides, and perpetuated by the media to further divide society and help pit the general public against themselves - "Covidiots" vs "Snowflakes", rather than allowing a post-Brexit/post Trump media vacuum to be created which might be more dangerous to those at the top.

Worse, definitely worse.  Driven in part by 24/7 news outlets that have to turn a profit and social media.
I agree with a lot of what you said and would like to expand upon others but this isn't the thread for that and I'd only be putting the effort in to write an off topic post that may end up being removed.
I think regarding covid however, as we emerge from the pandemic we really need to start pushing back against the Government, big business and the media now.  In an ideal world we'd be given the truth, get our freedoms restored, learn lessons for the future and have those that profited from the crisis or exploited it in some way pay their dues.

Oh yeah its not just limited to one news station/political party - everyone does its cos it generates money, power or both.  It is killing society however as we're forever being told the other side is evil.  We're being manipulated and shepherded into boxes and taught to despise people that don't agree with us rather than focus on what we do have in common.
As for covid, I think we all agree that the first lockdown was warranted but as time has gone on not only have the goal posts have moved but they continue to move.  IMO politicians, big corp and the media gained a lot of power and money during the initial outbreak and its been in their interests to prolong the pandemic ever since.
Does it really matter if a country has been financially ruined for example?  The rich can even make money betting against economies anyway and move to some sunny tax haven to avoid any fallout.
What we really need is someone to give us the truth, for politicians to ensure we get our freedoms back and for those that have made millions/billions throughout the pandemic to pay their share.  I'm fairly certain non of that is going to happen though.

The problem is that we're all being manipulated by the media and politicians.
The Guardian article that sparked this conversation was designed for its audience to get clicks, giving it a more balanced approach wouldn't have worked so well - or generated as much income.
The latest Project Veritas sting is a great example of this.  CNN have basically admitted that they were a propaganda wing of the Democrat party and there sole goal was, by hook or by crook, to get rid of Trump.  They also said (and to keep this on point) that after covid fatigue has died down the next thing they are going to go overboard on is the climate because and I quote 'fear sells'.
There are very few balanced articles these days, we are all being shepherded camps and made to despise the opposition for profit and power.

You're just getting old like the rest of us mate.
We saw the best team in the country for 6 or 7 years bitd.
Promotion, Two League titles, European Cup runs, semi-finals, yet Sam Longson ended up pilloried for giving his all to DCFC, a generation later, Lionel got abused for throwing his fortune at his home town club, Mel has done the same, tried to live the dream, failed by the skin of his teeth to take his boyhood club to the promised land of the premiership. Mel watched the Longson/Clough years from the Popside, if he's failed its not for the want of trying.
Keep the faith fella, there'll be another golden era before we're done. ?
These Derby men have tried, they have given us some absolutely brilliant times and some poor times, that is the history of DCFC.

I totally agree with the sentiment but there is another set of folk that in the same way relish any UK “failure” and are just as capable and smug when pointing to any European “success”

The camps and polarisation that we all adopt, usually on personal ideological grounds I find really depressing. I’m far from innocent too. I guess because we are so polarised we all feel the need to push back instead of rationalising.
Anyway, undeniable that everyone involved has done a fantastic job on the vaccines

Not sure to be honest, I think with a pre season in place this squad should finish mid table. With a couple of additions, then the play offs could be a possibility, not because we are a good team but the standard of this league is poor, confidence is a massive factor.

All great points I agree with, but I guess we also have to accept the world has changed from when we were kids.
To most older people, not having had that social interaction would be unimaginable. But kids today are already adept at forming relationships with much less face to face time.
We can't say our way was all good and the new way is all bad though.
For example, our world was made for certain types of characters to excel: confident, outgoing, attractive for example.
Perhaps a more online world gives the less extroverted people a chance to shine? The workplace extrovert who everyone likes, so no one questions their productivity vs the boring and shy nerd, who whilst working at home, leads a design via chat that build an incredible new product.

Where my wife works, they have a London office, with a London salary weighting. They've all been WFH during lockdown, and will be offered total flexibility in how often the attend the office in person going forward.
One person has relocated to Cornwall in the meanwhile, and wants to work from the office 2 days a month.
Whilst that's feasible, do they keep the salary they currently enjoy, or should their pay be reduced to better reflect the new circumstances?
After all, the cost of living in Cornwall is much cheaper, and that extra money was paid in the expectation you'd either live in London, or travel in every day.
These are the sorts of questions HR/Legal departments are wrestling with, I wonder what people's opinions are?
They've already banned people working from home while abroad, due to problems surrounding taxation and NI.

Two days, two garden centre visits - the first time we have ventured out for anything other than a walk for a year. I was delighted with the organisation, the availability of seed potatoes and onion sets at a very reasonable price, and the fact that I was able to buy some Naga chili seeds was the icing on the cake. The Memsahib has just informed me that my job tomorrow is to dig the garden and get the onions and spuds in.
I never thought it through, did I?

I will be anti-Brexit until the day I die. That doesn't preclude me from thinking that vaccines should not be used as a political weapon by certain 'leaders' of EU countries, purely as a vehicle to rattle their own sabres and court popularity amongst their own electorate.

Whilst there maybe an element of jingoism from some people, the pro-EU/anti-Brexit agenda still exudes from others.
Regardless of any politics for once we were ahead of the game with this one and for the EU to threaten to block vaccine exports to the UK - a vaccine that we not only helped to fund but also ordered in bulk early is disgusting.
A French grandma dying through EU incompetence is unfortunate, a UK grandma dying because a readily available vaccine is being held up at the border because of politics is I repeat, disgusting.
