  1. I’m trying to think, but I can’t remember any time that we lost as much as 4-0. There were a couple of really poor results last season, but nothing that bad.

In fact, one of our key characteristics was our bounce back ability. Gifting the other team a goal or two, and not letting it phase us, grabbing goals in the last few minutes, etc.

Could it be that that is a Derby trait, and a trait of our squad, not something that frank instilled in us, and Chelsea just don’t have it.

Imagine all those times we went behind, if we’d have capitulated. There would have been a lot of 4-0s.

Disappointing for the Pats but have been able to temper that disappointment with the discovery that St Pat's used to have an Irish International Centre Back called Keogh.  Seamus 'Shay' Keogh, spooky or what?

And I bet he was at fault for at least two of the goals.

Obviously, the family of Sala are the one's who have suffered most. Not simply about the money to them and it would certainly be the moral thing to do to see a sizeable compensation go their way.

But football is a business, and in business morals rarely hold any water and I don't think that's even remotely likely, so putting that aside and looking purely at the financials of this situation you can certainly see why this has become what it has.

£15m is an awful lot of money for a team on the brink of relegation to have effectively thrown into the wind, so you can understand why they're trying to fight it. However, £15m is an equally large sum for Nantes to not receive, especially considering that Sala would not have been on a plane at all and would still be a Nantes player had that deal not been agreed.
I really don't see how Cardiff can avoid paying this unless Sala was travelling before anything was signed between the clubs. Regardless of how unqualified the pilot may have been.

I can see no reason why any agent should get their hands on any money from this deal, though.

Agents fees will just end up being lawyers fees instead. Some suit will end up buying a new yacht out of this. Maybe it’ll sink, and we can do it all again.

I dont think the governing body is responsible . Just they should do it as a gesture of goodwill. They get are mega rich anyway

Richard Branson has a shed load of money, he should pay up as a gesture of good will?

in fact, I’ve got a few bills that need paying too. Maybe Richard, or even fifa, could cover them for me. I’ve got even less money than Cardiff, and I’d only ask for a few thousand.

15 mill is a lot to cardiff tbh. Fifa should just step in and pay. 15 mill is peanuts to the premierleague/Fifa

Why has it got anything to do with fifa or the premier league though?

you buy a car, and crash it in the way home before youve insured it. £30k isn’t a lot to the local council, they should pay for your car.

also, make your mind up, premier league or FIFA. The idea of a governing body paying on Cardiff’s behalf is nuts, but even if it wasn’t, which governing body is responsible? It’s jusf another court case waiting to happen. solicitors must be rubbing their hands with glee.

Does anyone know why players aren't insured against these sort of tragic - but extremely rare - eventualities?

I can imagine they are, but that early into a contract, it might not have been sorted out yet. I definitely think a lot of people will be learning some lessons from this situation and a few standard practices will be changed as a result. Getting insurance in place before the contract is signed will probably be top of the list.

Youll always have people risking it for a biscuit though, on deadline day. Get the contract signed but for the love of god wrap him in cotton wool til we get the insurance in place.

So Cardiff are claiming that Sala was never a Bluebird after all? I can't wait for all those virtue signalling Cardiff fans to demand their club honour the contract of a player they all genuinely took into their hearts. There's no way they'd all be so duplicitous and brazenly hypocritical that they'd now be framing denying their hero's family his cut of the transfer fee as a sensible business decision.

They might want to hide all those t-shirts saying ‘always a bluebird’, and maybe delete all the footage of the thousands of fans wearing them.

I wonder if we could claim that the deal we struck for Nick Blackman is null and void.

Any road...who have guessed that the planes owners were from Derbyshire!

A management consultancy company called Cool Flourish Ltd with a registered address on The Dale, Bonsall, derbyshire, with two directors, one who lives in Repton, and the other in Higham.

    small world.

Alas, if it were indeed a small world, there would’ve been no need for the plane.

They are guilty of being knobs. Nothing illegal in that. Otherwise the prisons would be overflowing !

However, it does make you wonder what goes through the heads of such morons.

I was about to post something very similar. So I will. They are knobs. Everyone’s a knob at some point in their lives.

The unforgivable bit is how stupid they are. For the sake of a bit of banter, they spent a Saturday afternoon watching their team loose to a last minute goal, and then receiving a life time ban.

As stupid moves / bad days go, that’s about as stupid as a moment of pleasure, followed by a lifetime of being an enexpected dad.

In any big business vital /employees that bring in large revenue streams would normally be insured by key man insurance .I would imagine that clubs must have some form of insurance on players over and above injury cover .

Key man ensures replacement income / ability to replace skills by providing a lump sum to facilitate that. If Cardiff have some form of cover then I would imagine they would claim on it .

Maybe he hadn’t been there long enough for that to have been sorted out properly. Imagine the shitty luck if someone in admin just thought ‘I’ll sort that out on Monday when he’s here.’

it’s a bit insensitive but he’s basically being talked about like an amazon package, despite the fact that he was a living, breathing human being.

But if he was an amazon package, Cardiff have paid (or agreed payment), but the package got lost in transit. Is that the buyers fault, Amazon’s fault, or Hermes’ fault?

course that’s further complicated by the fact that he had actually gone to Cardiff, he was just going back for his final goodbyes.

So had Cardiff actually ‘signed for the goods’.

It is of course extremely sad for the player and his family, who are really the only ones who matter.

But I seem to remember that when the Chelsea guy Matthew Harding died in a light aircraft crash on his way home from a game in the '90's, the reaction was much more low key - which is sort of in-keeping with @Anon's thinking. The sight of Colin re-examining his entire life priorities is simply bizarre. We all surely suspect he will be letting forth streams of invective towards refs in the near future....

Oh, and I don't think it was Diana's fault for the outpouring. I blame Elton for that horrendous mawkish version of Candle in the Wind he did through floods of tears before vowing never to sing it again. It was all just bizarre how someone who was being so vilified was then more or less sainted. Until her shifty brother tried to cash in by building that memorial garden thing at Althorp and charging a wedge for admittance.

    Such hypocrisy.....

I guess when Matthew Harding died, the only place you’d hear about it was in a news paper, then it would literally be tomorrow’s chip paper. There would be no social media to organise mass mourning events, it would all just blow over really quicker.

Now we’re able to see it pop up on our Facebook feed every 10 minutes, and discuss it in here, for that matter.

I wouldn't go so far as suggesting that. I think it's more likely the competitive grieving Findern suggested. There's probably plenty of the Cardiff players who aren't bothered, but obviously they aren't going to be honest about that. Imagine the uproar if of them said, "It's a really sad situation, but I never met Emiliano, so it hasn't really affected me."

Was it you that started down this road (can’t be arsed to go back and check), but same thing, the first couple of pages are all ‘thoughts and wishes are with his family, hope they find him, etc.’ which is probably an appropriate response.

But eventually someone has to be the ******** who says ‘actually, it’s sad, but it’s not really effected me. Not as much as when Bing Bong died anyway.’

Everything going off on the Cardiff side of things is pretty bizarre and i don't think that is insensitive.

    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/premier-league/cardiff-city-players-afraid-to-fly-after-emiliano-sala-plane-disappears/ar-BBSWkHK?li=BBoPWjP

The Cardiff players are now afraid of flying? Really? Just in case airborne tragedies are picking out players contracted to Cardiff City.

Warnock told the players they don't have to play against Arsenal but they all chose to play because they have all been so brave.

I've been trying to transfer it to a real life situation. Such as a new starter at work who i briefly met at their interview being in a fatal car crash on the way to their first day. Of course i would be quite upset, but probably only slightly more than if i saw the story on the news.

I'd be at work that day and every day that follows. Wouldn't make me scared to drive to work...

    Am i missing something?

It’s interesting that it’s happened in the same season as Leicester’s owner.

Put that in the same analogy, and it’s your companies owner, who you probably saw reasonably often, if not to chat too, but by all accounts was a nice man, and used to pay for the Christmas party. And his death was extremely violent, right at the front door of your office.

Now, I’d still say the outpouring of grief there was still probably a bit much, but definitely more justified in that scenario. That would probably shake you up a bit at work. Even if you didn’t know the guy, just the helicopter exploding on your doorstep would be enough to willies up you.

So hats off to the Leicester players there. But the Cardiff players aren’t exactly hero’s for showing up to work the next day, they’re making a bit of a meal of it. And that’s the distasteful thing, are some people jumping on the tragedy for their own PR gain?

    Hated Diana tbf.

We've all just repressed the fear of our own mortality so much that it leaks out in bizarre ways.

Own as quite young at the time, but I always found it weird that, at least according to my perception, the media was hounding her out as a cheating whore one minute, and then she died, and suddenly the whole country should be in mourning, and she was the best person in the world.

Frok what I’ve seen about her since, I think the latter may be more true than the former, but it’s funny how the media suddenly flipped, and they spin any narrative that works for the cause of selling papers.

    Yesterday's toys it seems..

All jokes aside.. Bored stiff of the iPhone and tablets that never change. Little Angrys girlfriend has one of those Huawei phones and it's great. Fraction of the price as well..

Has the consumer pushed back on the might Apple? Hope so.

To be fair, getting rid of the home button and introducing ‘the notch’ in the X is quite a big design change. I have thought this though, from a design point of view eventually all phones will just be one big touch screen, so there won’t be much you can do to make them stand out from a design point of view.

Also, it’s funny how things cycle round and so quickly. Remember less than 20 years ago that Nokia were the absolutely undisputed champions of the world. Didn’t seem like they’d ever go away. But now where are they? So you may be right. Eventually Apple’s light may start to fade. Gone are the days of Woolworths or whatever being a power house for 100 years, especially in the tech industries.

Over my dead body before I switch to Android though.

Well it was the first episode of the new series I think ?

I've not checked to see how many series I've missed. It wasn't the fact that I didn't understand what was going on, it was just the same old formula.

To be fair, I didn't give it a proper go, switching off after 20 or so minutes, but I'm pretty certain it's not something I'd enjoy watching.

Well we started last night with the first two episodes ever. Not my favourite thing in the world, but my wife is enjoying it, and we find it really hard to find something we both enjoy that isn’t an mcu film.

She likes a procedural crime drama does my wife, and she especially likes the fact that in British cop shows your best mate can be killed and your boss will still stay, ‘crack in big lad, there’s work to be done.’ She’s more used to things like csi, where they need a course of counselling if they break a nail.

  17. I’ve never seen Luther but have heard it’s good. Now a new series has started I’ve just downloaded all the old series to catch up. Seems like it would be an easy one to catch up on as there’s no more than 6 in a series, and one series only has 2 episodes (Idris is a busy boy these days).

Can anyone tell me if it is as good as I’ve heard?

  18. Another driving related thing that bugs me (you could probably have a separate thread on driving stuff alone), and this one will be controversial.

People who get annoyed when I filter in at roadworks, or even on a slip road.

I just saw a Facebook post from a friend, and had to give him an angry face. It said ‘I don’t care how many cones you knock down, I’m not letting you in, cos you saw the sign two miles ago, just like I did.’

I totally disagree with that sort of attitude. It’s the people who see the sign saying ‘roadworks 2 miles ahead’ and then instantly filterninto the other lane. Everyone does it, leaving a two mile stretch of lane with no traffic, and two mile tailback on the other lane.

Its stupid, and it causes more tailbacks and traffic than is necessary. If everyone just filtered, ‘like a zip’ as they say in America, at the actual roadworks, it would be a problem. The sign doesn’t compel you to move over, it’s just informing you that roadworks are coming.

I’ve seen clips on Facebook of people actually moving out to stop people from going down the inside lane. What a twit! If your the kind of stupid person who likes to queue for an hour, you fill your boots, but there’s nothing stopping you from doing what I’m doing, the only one breaking any rules by blocking me off is you.

The only reason people do that is because they’re afraid no one will let them in when they get to the end. And they’re right to be afraid that they’ll be left stranded and hitting traffic cones, because people are dheads. But the people who properly use that inside lane are in the right.

The same applies for filtering onto a road with the traffic. The amount of times I see people try to filternonto the a52 going towards the pentagon, but they choose the first 10 yards of the filter lane to merge, and look all surprised when I drive right to the bottom of the filter lane, another couple of hundred yards, and filter there, bypassing 20 odd cars.

It’s like purposefully choosing the longest queue at the super market. I don’t get why you’d do that.

    Rule 195

Zebra crossings. As you approach a zebra crossing

    • look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross
    • you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing
    • allow more time for stopping on wet or icy roads
    • do not wave or use your horn to invite pedestrians across; this could be dangerous if another vehicle is approaching
    • be aware of pedestrians approaching from the side of the crossing.

Essentially you don't have to stop unless the pedestrian has stepped foot on the crossing

Does that mean a pedestrian has to step out and just trust that the driver has paid attention to the first bullet point. I wouldn’t step out unless the car had come to a stop first. Butvwiuld that mean that no car would actually have to stop, if I’m patiently waiting.

  20. 15 hours ago, Matt H said:

Never caused me to stall but I know what you mean. Often they'll flash you without actually looking at what  traffic there is going the other way and before you've even had chance to check yourself, as if you're just supposed to trust them that it's clear.

Then there are the weirdos who flash at you to say you're safe changing lanes... from about 90 yards behind you! Err yeah, I didn't actually need your help to see that, thanks!

Yes, I hate that. And people who flash you through when it’s your right of way anyway, and then seem to expect a thanks for letting you through.

  21. I'm way too late on this band wagon to catch up properly. But here's one that's been pissing me right off recently... Polite drivers!

The example is, you're waiting patiently to turn right out of a junction. You've not been waiting long, you're in no rush. You can see a gap on the horizon, just after that red car, that's your chance. But then the red car starts to slow down. You're not sure what his intentions are or what's going on. You're getting a bit pensive, because you can see your window of opportunity narrowing as the car behind him starts to close the gap. Then eventually he comes to a stop and flashes you. You're not ready for that, so you're caught on the back foot and get your feet in a mess, and end up stalling. Then he's looking at you like a banker, while you're blocking traffic.

If he had just carried on his day as normal, without taking it upon himself to decide that the normal rules of the road are not appropriate for this situation, and they need him to give it a helping hand, everything would have gone quite smoothly.

Now, had it been a static queue of traffic, you leave a gap, that's the rule (and it pisses me off equally when people don't understand that rule, and beep at me for having to force my way out in front of them cos they didn't leave a gap!)

And it always seems to be the car at the end of a stream of traffic. The one where it wouldn't have made the slightest difference if he'd have carried on.

It also applies when you're a pedestrian. I tell my kids, 'we're going to cross after this blue car.' Then the sodding blue car slows down and lets us cross. Like he's doing me a ducking favour. He's a) thrown me off my stride, so now I'm half tipping my daughter out of her pushchair while I try to get off the curb, cos now I don't want to inconvenience him by taking too long about crossing, and b) not helping me to teach my kids how to cross the road.

So, in summary, don't be a polite driver. Just stick to the rules of the road, that way everyone is on the same page, and everything will work out fine for everyone.

Comparing it to the iPhone X, it probably looks a good price, however it also has an inferior camera, and as I said a screen that is comparable to a model from 2014.

I use my phone for watching TV, Facebook, this forum and checking my bank balance, oh and thanking pictures, therefore I’m not sure what the additional processing power does for me?

I have an iPhone and will continue to do so, however I think 750 for a phone that uses out of date technology is overpriced, regardless of battery life and processing power, probably won’t affect the sales though.

I’m not seeing your point. If you don’t like the screen on the xr, get the xs, if you don’t care so much about the resolution, get the xr. If the xs is too expensive, by a huawei, and enjoy your android life. Different strokes for different folks.
