It's fair to say Warne was never given the budget to compete in the Champ but it is concerning how poorly his style faired in previous attempts. Will we really back him much more outside of potentially wages due to revenue? One big signing so far keeps getting berated by the other players for not tracking backing and losing his head after missing a chance.  Tempting fate here though making assumptions we'll get there.

And yet many don't seem to have an issue with it. It does seem the generally vocally negative are the ones that seem irked by it... I don't think that's a coincidence?
I saw loads of comments after the Northampton game about how he shouldn't play for us again etc. Sections of our fanbase seem utterly oblivious at times that some of that criticism filters back to the players themselves. They're human and will react to it... then when they do, many of those same fans pull the surprised pikachu face that they dare have an emotional response...

Or we don't sign him and find a better player? I want to go up an compete, we've got the resources.

Absolutely no one was thinking Idiakez was a defensive mid.

Good defensive midfielder but I question his technical ability at Champ level, won't be playing against free transfer from lower league midfield setups there.

I think it’s largely the thought of seeing Sheff Wed and Plymouth, two sides who looked better than the current Derby side, struggle to hit 50 points in the Championship.
I see us currently weaker than teams like QPR, Huddersfield and Wednesday so we will need to have a decent summer (or a manager who can excel on a budget) to give us a chance next season.

It's a tough one. The way I see it, I can only think of four or five games this season where we rolled over the opposition, and there have been plenty where we just haven't turned up, we've let crap teams back into the game, or we've just scraped a last-minute winner. Yes, Derby are second, but it doesn't really feel like the performances warrant being up there, just that we have better players than most other teams.
You can certainly blame the players for individual poor choices and errors (Wildsmith's charging out, or CBT's terrible miss, for example) but there have been so many occasions where the line-up has been wrong, Hourihane & Bradley have been shoe-horned into the XI, players are out of position, we've been set up timidly against weak opposition, substitutions are bang-on one week then bizarre the next, we persisted with 2 CMs when it clearly wasn't working, youth players have been totally ignored, we've signed crocks, and some players (Collins, NML) have been run into the ground from lack of rotation. On top of that, the players are obviously being coached to pump cross after cross into the box, and it's a style of football which is dire to watch most of the time.
However, I was recently reminded by a mate who is a Sunderland fan that they had 6 seasons in L1. Portsmouth have spent 11 seasons out of the Championship, Ipswich were down for 5(?) seasons and got pumped up by new investors, Bolton have been here since 2019/20. It could be worse, and League One is difficult to get out of.

My hope is that we go up this season and PW gets the boot asap. (I realise this will sound stupid). He may well get us up but he is not the future. If we dip out of the autos, it won't feel like we've made any progress, especially with the huge rebuild and turnover of players needed, Knight & Bird leaving, Cashin possibly going, etc.

Whatever Clowes has done, and we're eternally grateful for what that, the appointment of Warne felt strange but it's looking to be awful. While tonight was grim, it wasn't particularly out of character or surprising, it was utterly predictable. Promotion or not, he's not the future

Every time I start to feel slightly positive towards Warne, a performance like this comes along and ruins it. Absolutely nothing all game. I don't even know how to describe it. I can't even remember much details of the game. It's just a blur of nothingness.

Warne's football and tactics are dire, I never thought being 2nd in the league could be this depressing but it's an impressive feat.

Not a doom merchant but the game management is shocking, play with no urgency or tempo. Terrible substitutions and tactical decisions. It has been the same all season. I remember Warne saying he loves a good throw in yet we must be the worst in the league at them
We’re second in the league but on the whole a forgettable season with very few highlights. How many promotion worthy performances have we put in???
So so so disappointing. To say we have a team who know what it takes to get out the league and fail to take advantage against teams like Northampton and Wycombe is inexcusable.

Wycombe ran their legs off at Wembley on Sunday and we had a week to recover, we turn up and put in that performance. No excuses for me and they don't need people making excuses for them.
