MadAmster reacted to Mucker1884 in Match Thread: vs Bolton Wanderers (H)
I had the misfortune to miss this game. Caught the short highlight snippets yesterday.
However, due to the prolonged discussions relating to "Waggy's handball", I decided to do some research... the wording of related laws, stills and video playback at numerous speeds, and from various angles. I've checked match reports, and on line discussion board comments. I've then returned to the laws of the game, before publicly offering my own thoughts on the matter...
4 hours and 23 minutes I've spent on this research, and bugger me, it turns out the result cannot be changed, and we still won 1-0. We will always have won this game 1-0. Bolton themselves will go down in history as the team that lost this game 1-0.
The referee has sent in his match report, which will also back up this outcome. It showing on league tables and results lists the world over.
That's right... 4 hours and 23 bloody minutes!
Sometimes, I despair! I feel a right twonk! 🙄

The Laws around the ball touching the hand/arm of an attacker in a move are extremely clear, any contact, deliberate or accidental, whether it affected the outcome or not, is sufficient to disallow the goal so VAR would probably have (more like should have) disallowed the goal which, going on what one of the players said post match in the Toyota lounge, would have been the correct decision. The goal was given. It happens. Sometimes in your favour. Sometimes not. This one went our way (as did Yiadom's 2nd yellow against Reading. That wasn't even a foul, never mind a yellow). We've been on the wrong end of more than enough bad decisions this season, just maybe, the pendulum is swinging our way at the right time...
PS - I'm not complaining. It makes up for the 3 refereeing blunders that cost us the win at their place. This time the boot's on the other foot.

It was a goal as the ref appears to have either missed the contact or decided it wasn't hands. From where I was sat I thought Waggy made contact and I thought it was possibly a hand. The photo seems to show the ball in contact with both arm and hip. Agreeing to disagree is a perfectly sensible way forward on a forum built on opinions. We can probably agree on that 😉
PS - when I stopped playing in 2003, as well as coaching I also refereed having qualified in 1996, finally hanging up my whistle 2 years ago, aged 68

Thoroughly entertained by this one. proper football, not the boring stuff you see in most PL games.
Two teams wanting to win. Some good attacking from both sides. Both defences looked good. Wildsmith pulled off 2 worldies. Some interesting MF battles. Good interplay going forward falling down mainly thanks to good defending. Our approach to handling their #19, Maghoma, frightened me. The lad looks mustard, a proper footballer and we gave him the freedom of Pride Park. Fortunately, he was never able to fashion a good shot or set up a team mate. We gave him way too much time and space. We were very happy when he was replaced.
Well happy with the win but over the 90, a draw was probably the right result, IMO. Especially considering Waggy's handball for the goal.
Ian Evatt is quoted as saying nobody at the stadium could leave thinking Derby deserved the win. I agree. A draw would have been a better reflection. Having said that, what goes around comes around. 2 nailed on penalties at theirs not given plus the one they got was from a Smith foul outside the box

We did. Never visit this page when away from home, only ever access it form my laptop, so only just read your post Dave. We were in the Neppy and did the Neppy bus return journey. Toyota Lounge and Director's Box for Bolton. Back on the 27th for Carlisle. That'll be Neppy again and the Neppy bus (leaves half an hour before kick off). See you there?

Did anyone else notice that, in the back to back defeats to Barnsley and Charlton, we played both games without a recognised #9?

A pupil in year 12 at Brookfield School in Chesterfield is doing an extended project qualification on football finance. As part of this he is doing a survey. I hope some of you will help the lad out. I know his name but, as he's a minor, I won't be publishing it.

5 yellows match 19 I thought.
10 yellows match 37. I believe Ebou is safe despite 4 yellows in 8 appearances.

Looking at some online posts at HT, I had to smile. The gist was "God, Derby are boring". I saw that as "scoreboard and stat driven opinion".
0-0 at HT. They'd had 1 shot which was off target. We were credited with 4, all off target although I viewed 3 of them as crosses. Those stats might persuade one to agree with the online opinion. I actually enjoyed the first half. We had 66% possession. Spent much of the half in their half of the field. There were some lovely passages of play which, alas, led to nothing but that was more down to Bristol's well organised defence than any great problems with our play.
Bristol were always going to have some passages of play, especially as they were the home team and couldn't really play the 2nd half hoping for the counter. That was always going to favour Derby as it would give us more room in our attacking third. That is how it turned out. They had 2/3 possession in the 2nd half, produced 5 shots, 3 on target but, IMO, only the Marquis header which was straight at JW, was dangerous and he'll be kicking himself for not scoring. At the other end we had 11 shots, 5 of which were on target, 3 went in and how Cash couldn't get it in off his thigh from a yard out will remain a mystery.
IMO it was a very good performance in a very enjoyable game which saw us showcase good defence and good attacking prowess. Here's hoping for more of the same this Tuesday and Saturday.

MadAmster got a reaction from Archied in Sibley too good!
Looking at Sibs' performances, last season and this, at LB and LWB, I am starting to think that is where his future lies. Fozzy is 35 so would probably be cover next season if offered a new contract. Elder is 29 and has 2 years left on his contract and will be good competition for Sibs provided he (CE) stays fit.

Is it a bit premature to suggest the song for DG might be the chorus from All Dwight Now by Free?
All Dwight now baby, it's all Dwight now
All Dwight now baby, it's all Dwight now
Derby, Derby, Derby it's all Dwight, Dwight Dwight, Dwight

Obviously deliberately chosen to replace "Like I/you said" which he uses much less these days. Whoever does the media training needs replacing. As a retired English teacher, I'd take the job on.
This leads me to another pet hate... I hear more and more people unable to pronounce the "th" letter combination correctly. Think becomes "fink". Bother becomes "bovver". This becomes "dis" or "vis". Do they not teach articulation these days at school?
