Coronavirus

I went to our local supermarket to get some potatoes and mushrooms to have with my steak last night and they were out of both. But more weird  than the lack of potatoes and the inevitable lack of toilet rolls (good job I bought 70 12-packs the other day) was the empty shelves where bottled water normally was.

WTF are people expecting to happen that will mean the Government shut the water plants down?

I doubt a Zombie apocalypse would shut the water down.

Do you know, I have.

The missus mate went to do a normal shop. It was a normal shop but she bought an extra pack of toilet rolls because panic buyers are buying too much and she wants to make sure she has some.

She's not a panic buyer. She's just taking precautions against them.

I mean what do you say to that? If they can't hear the stupidity screaming out of their explanation then what more can you do for them?

I'm not saying I want her to catch coronavirus. I'm saying she's taken precautions so, you know? Maybe just a brief harmless visit? Justify the panic buy, you know?

Is that mean?

I'm with ya fella. I was thinking exactly the same today about all those who'd took all the spaghetti and tomatoes

Went into aldi today to buy a pack of spaghetti and a couple of tins of tomatoes (fat chance). Saw a twit loading his trolley with 2 trays, 48 tins, of their economy spaghetti hoops. He looked up and I just shook my head at him. I pity his dinner party guests for the next year or so. Bamfords.

Not a single piece of chicken or minced meat down the meat aisle in our local Morrison’s ?

Basically its human nature, its the FOMO effect.

Tell people they can't or might not be able to have something and it makes them want more.

I have been thinking of posting online that due to coronavirus i will be limiting the numbers in my 'hot naked blondes join Paul for a hot tub party' just to see what happens.

How do I join the reservation list?

This thread gives you a bit of faith in humanity. All week I've been feeling like we're the only family that isn't panic buying.

At least here you can see there are others scratching their heads at the disgusting selfishness of our civilised society. The complete stupidity.

It's insane and very scary the way people behave.

The selfishness has always been there with many, it just comes out more clearly during crisis.  However, i don't want to put everyone panic buying under the same hat, otherwise decent folk lose their social bearings when full of fear.

You've been told it's more deadly than flu over and over again ad nauseum, but is this actually true? I think you'll find it's baloney.

Statistically significant. Remember a 1% increase equates to a lot of people. This flu is more serious than normal flu but less serious than other flus we have had in the past.

Airports don't close if it's not serious. Football doesn't shut down if it isn't serious. The government doesn't offer more generous statutory sick pay rules if it isn't serious.

We are heading to some serious lockdown. This is the first measure. Just think what measures the government are preparing for the later stages, if we don't succeed in limiting the impact of the virus.

We nipped out to Bettys farmshop at Willington today and got a tray of eggs like we do every 2 weeks, we then called at the van parked up by the farm between Chellaston and Swarkestone and got a bag of spuds, onions, carrots and mushrooms and then nipped to the butchers in Chellaston and got some chicken, steak and bacon. No queues, no fighting, no shortages.

342 new cases (and 10 new deaths) in the UK today. Has Boris’ plan backfired or is it down to the massive increase in the number of tests being done?

I don't think anything has backfired (yet). There was always going to be a big increase and numbers will continue to rise for some time to come.

I don't really think it is Boris's plan as such, to me it appears that Chris Whitty is calling the shots and the government are acting on the advice being given. I'd be disappointed if the government werent following the advice being given, i would suspect no matter who was in power the UK's approach would be a similar one which is probably why there hasn't been a huge outcry from opposition leaders to the actions being taken.
