Remember seeing Ronaldo score this live, unbelievable strike.

Whilst long-range efforts look spectacular, there isn't that much skill involved. Ronaldo in this case was just smashing it towards goal, in the hope it would be on target and find the corner. Like, he wasn't actually aiming for that top corner any more than he was aiming for the opposite top corner. Just a smash and hope.

Long-range curlers which have more precision are technically better in my opinion. Like this Jordan Henderson goal against Chelsea below, you could see he was clearly aiming for that far top corner (ignore the horrible music).

Long-range punts like Rooney vs West Ham and Charlie Adam vs Stoke, which were both all the rage at the time, also fall into the category of just kicking it far and hoping for the best.

Anything which requires brilliant technique, like a stunning volley or an evidently placed effort gets my vote.

Thread for amazing goals by any player from any era.

Will start it off with this brilliant solo goal by Messi against Madrid in the Champions League.

Must be great being a player in the same team as Messi - give him a 2 yard pass 40 yards from goal then watch him beat half the opposition and score then claim the assist :p
