For Zidane, and Real Madrid, they'll say the CL is better than La Liga. But how can a seven-game knockout tournament be better than a 38-game league? I don't get it, and I'm not saying that because both Barca and City failed at the 1/4 stage. You have to consistently be at your best to win a league. In the CL you can literally fluke your way to a final, or win it on the back of a referee blunder, or win it by avoiding playing anyone of note. Madrid won the 2015/16 CL by beating Roma, Wolfsburg, Man City and then Atletico Madrid. I mean, come on, even Arsenal could have won the CL that year. Pep said the PL was harder than the CL or any other league, the Spanish isn’t. 58 times either Barcelona or Real have won it, those stats alone show it’s not difficult to win that league, as opposed to the CL that Barcelona have won only 5 times. Messi is world class there is no doubt, but unless he performs outside the pub league when CR does, he will not win any further player of the year. Sexydadbod
This game perfectly illustrates why VAR needs to be introduced. Had Roma been given the decisions they should have, they’d be in the champions league final

Then why has Real Madrid only won the league twice in the last decade - yet they’ve won three CL titles in four years? If it was a such a pub league, why has the likes of Atletico and Sevilla embarrassed top English clubs over the years? Any league that has RM as an opponent is surely more difficult to win that the CL where you could avoid them... And if you haven’t noticed, Messi has four CL trophies in his cabinet. The same amount as any current active player. A better goals and assists per game record than Ronaldo too. But that probably doesn’t suit the arguement.
