6 of them at Italia 90.

The one he saved was against a guy that went on to score a world cup winning penalty if my memory serves me correctly!

The 15 don't include the 4 in the Germany shoot out. Had to check what the non-save/goal was.

in a parallel universe what would be the outcome of Conor Sammon taking a penalty against Peter Shilton ?

Goal

Save

Miss completely

Would not have my money on Sammon hitting the target from that far out.

Even if he did it would be scuffed and maybe even Shilts would have time to get down to it!

Not if he tried to read where Sammon was trying to put it!

My knowledge of that era is normally pretty good but didn't remember them at all.

Was at the match, and remember that goal by Jossie

Me too. Are we the same person?

I've always said I never saw Shilton save one but that's clearly a pile of toss.

Perhaps I just blanked another defeat.

Are you fat, bald and stupid?

If not, we are not the same person.

That penalty shootout was awful. Shilton didn't get near them.

My abiding memory though was the little German with the tache and big grin as he tucked one away. Little bleeder.

Same here. Put it to Shilts left, which was his worst side for diving. The ball hit the back of the net before Shilts had even moved.

Think it was Olaf Thom but may be completely wrong!

Not completely. 4th penalty, best of them all, was taken by Olaf Thon.

Probably the best keeper we've ever had. In his defence, most keepers don't save penalties! Some people have mentioned Dave Beasant as a good penalty saver. He probably had a good 4 inches in height over Shilts which I'm sure made the difference.

I'd rather have Shilts in my goal than Dave Beasant.
