bang average/ opportunity blown

This season was ideal for us the do a 'Leicester' and walk this division. So many mistakes, missed opportunity and points dropped.

Last season for me it was Ben Osborns goal that started the demise, for me this season it was the Leeds game and Clement tinkering with a winning side that started the troubles.

There is always next season ;)

No one wants it apart from most mediocre, workmanlike but well organised side in the division. Granted they have the best striker in the league but it says a lot about the quality of the challengers that they top the pile. We have missed probably the best chance we will ever get due to inconsistency of all but Burnley.

I see you wisely kept Burnley's name out of the thread's title to avoid B4's attention, good thinking.

This makes our implosion even more galling, the fact that we really could've kicked on and be out of sight by now if certain people hadn't made rash decisions.  Even more galling is giving the job to Waffall, with a new (good, experienced) manager bounce and everyone around use faltering we could've been sniffing the top two... :(

Macca turned us around on his arrival and we went on a winning run in the fall of 2014. We have more talent at our disposal so surely it must make common sense that with the right guy in charge our fortunes could change overnight. Again another sure sign that we have missed the mother of all opportunitys seeing as the pot of gold at the end of the rainbiw is the biggest yet.

Poor. Very very poor.

Sure I read that last year was our best opportunity to win the league? What if we don't get promoted this year and win it next year? Next year is gonna be harder cos everyone is poo this, just the same as last year and the year before and the one before that.

Usually there is 1 class act in the division. Leics were oustanding in 14-15. Bournemouth were best team by miles last season and with the right boss in charge Norwich came good. This year we have Burnley - bang average. Hull - average. Boro - hit and miss. Brighton - probably the best playing side but are they really all that?????

It doesn't matter.  We're **** with a clueless man in charge...

I would be very interested to know who Morris has lined up next season as manager, I would imagine the person has been spoke to and discussions had on the potetntial two scenarios, promotion push or premiership survival.

My concern is if we do make the playoffs and suffer the same fate as last time, we are again behind the other teams in terms of planning, a new manager wouldn't be installed until Maybe June, wouldn't get to know his players until July at the earliest, how many games until he knows his best 11 etc etc.

If he go someone in now he could assess the squad over the 10 games and have more of a chance of forming an opinion on who stays and who goes.

We know Wassall is not the man for Derby, so we are wasting valuable time.

The standard in this league is shocking this year

Based upon what measure? How can you tell?

Certainty  no one team look particularly good this season and all would struggle massively in the prem with what they currently have, I would say that probably Norwich will be the strongest side next year assuming that they achieve relegation which I expect.

I would argue that the division this season is a particularly difficult one to get out of. I believe that the most important man at any club is the manager. So many other teams have managers with a proven track record of this division - which is peculiarly physical and cutthroat. Premier League and top flight overseas experiences counts for little. What matters is experience of keeping a side in the top six of the Championship, although getting a team promoted from League 1 or even making the playoffs also seems to help.

Look at the other eight teams with a realistic chance of promotion.

Hull - Steve Bruce. Has been promoted to the Premier League more than any other manager, plus parachute payments

Burnley - Sean Dyche. Promoted with Burnley, plus parachute payments

Middlesbrough - Aitor Karanka. Playoffs last season, plus a fantastic and wealthy owner

Brighton - Chris Hughton. Playoffs with Birmingham and promotion with Newcastle plus wealthy owners

Sheffield Wednesday - Carlos Carvalhal. There's an exception to every rule, although he has been promoted twice in Portugal, plus ambitious and very wealthy owners

Cardiff - Russell Slade. A bit of a journeyman, but several lower league play-offs, plus a wealthy insane owner

Birmingham - Gary Rowett. Exciting young manager with a track record of making the League 1 playoffs, plus criminal owner with no money

Ipswich - Mick McCarthy. Wiley old goat with two promotions and a couple of play-off finishes behind him, plus a wealthy owner

So, although the division looks a bit unspectacular, it is brimming with money and successful managers.

I think it will be easier next season Burnley and Hull will go up, probably with Brighton in the playoffs. That takes three top managers out of the equation. Villa are in absolute turmoil. They won't be any sort of threat next season, especially as Lerner has lost all interest in them. They will be more concerned with not getting a second relegation than anything else next season. Newcastle will have a new manager who will have to reshape the squad. Hopefully they'll make the wrong choice again.Allardyce will see Sunderland safe, meaning that Norwich will come back down. If they're sensible and Keep Alex Neil they'll be very tough opponents next season. Overall though, I reckon the division is very tough this season as there are so many specialist managers around and it will be less so next.

Well in the last 11 games we have managed 10pts from 33 available, so dropped 23 pts and we are still 5th and only 7 pts off automatics.

This does means the other teams above us are as Shiite as us, otherwise the gap would be much larger than the current 7 pts - as this is based around 33 pts available in that time frame.

And Derby - Darren Wassall, a successful Academy Director and a tactical genius, plus Mel Morris, a business tycoon who does not shy away from making bold and unconventional decisions.

Is the season over already?

To be fair to Dyche he has a formula which looks to work in this division, not the prettiest to watch at times but effective.

Every season is always 'a poor division which we should have walked'

Yes but it's not Mel's dreaded "Derby Way" is it ?.

You cannot compare across seasons on a statistic based upon a fraction of current season - surely you, as a fellow old git, must realise that?

However, the positive is that if we make the play-offs we have a good chance. The teams in them will probably be not that good and have likely been on a poor run to fall away from the autos.

We can beat Hull and Brighton and probably Boro in their current incarnation. Burnley maybe not,
