Martins body language

Martin has been such an important and committed player for us but if Clement wants to really move the team on then there has to be  change up front.

What change though?  And moving on to what?  I've seen no suggestion that Clement is improving our attacking play at all.  All of the forwards are struggling. None of them have played anywhere near as well as they did last season, and that's got to be a tactical issue.  You will never get good performances and consistent goal scoring from forwards if they are isolated, lacking support and getting poor service.

Haven't seen the game form yesterday but it seems like if we are going to replace Thorne with Ince in midfield, Clement should play Bent instead of Martin. And vice versa. 4-2-3-1 vs 4-3-3, looks like it's demanding different striker.

He is a player who seems too comfortable in his role in my opinion.

Captain of the side, gets brought straight back in despite Bent scoring in the previous game and barely ever gets brought off when not in the game - like last night.

Is it 13 now without scoring from open play too? Appalling considering the money that's been spent improving the players behind him.

if someone offered 5 million right now...

I just don't understand why bent isn't in the team. He scored last game, biggest win of the season was with him in the team, and martin seems to be on a stinker. plus it's obvious ince prefers playing with bent, seems to be given much more freedom that way.

Agree

£20000 a week

he should score goals

he should behave correctly

he should have respect

fans have right to say what they want.

Simple. Many a lad would dream to be in his position

The fact that no PL team has come in for him in the past 2 seasons speaks for it's self.

Swansea enquired in the summer but we priced him at £10 million and they backed off (apparently) so...

Martin is undoubtedly a quality player; we all know that much having seen him play so well since he joined at the start of the 13/14 season. Even at the start of this season, he not only continued his scoring form, but also his groundwork was brilliant, holding the ball up excellently and bringing others into the game.

However, while people have been focusing on Martin's goal drought, it's quite clear this has been coupled with a sharp decline in form as well. He's not getting into the same threatening areas he used to, I can't remember him having a shot last night, which for a striker is not only poor, but unusual.

Now, his attitude does play a part, last night, he frankly didn't look like he wanted to be on the pitch and when play didn't go his way, got a strop on and reacted very poorly, especially when he shoved their player over, not what you want to see from your captain. This attitude is stopping him finding form again, he's not working hard to create or score goals and quite honestly was a liability last night.

That being said, there's no point raising a point such as he's not good enough for the Premier League because that's impossible to call until he gets the opportunity to play in it. Players have spectacularly failed in the Premier League that should have done well- Cuadrado is a recent example, and players that their clubs will have never thought good enough ie Vardy, have succeeded and proved many supporters wrong.

Let's hope that after last night's poor showing, Chris is one of a few players that goes out with a point to prove on Saturday and shows us all what he's capable of, because ultimately despite all of our complaining we want back the Martin, we're used to, one of the best strikers in the league!

Football is simple, you need a target man who can hold the ball and then lay it off. I am old enough to have watched John O'hare you could be sure he would hold the ball and not be bullied  by the centre half. May be not as gifted as Martin but did the job for us, and that's all you want.

A flick is very nice when it works, but a pass to a attacker is is just as effective. All this falling down is really getting on my nerves, he is big enough to stand up and impose himself on the defender

Derby's first league championship winning side featured John O'Hare as a back-to-goal target man, but the Mackay team didn't feature a target man at all.

Talking about John O'Hare - I wasn't around in the 1970s, but if he went off colour, did he get the CSI Derby treatment?

Nothing can be as simple as a player being out of form, or a team changing its style, or a bit of both. It's all about body language these days.

Did you see the way O'Hare nonchalantly brushed the mud off his knees there? Not what you expect from a Division One centre forward. Let's hope he gets injured soon so he's out of the team, because our idiot manager obviously won't drop him.

This school of thought has been transmitted from the media to the fans. A couple of weeks ago, pundits were suggesting that Wayne Rooney was past it and should be melted down for glue - then he scores 4 goals (FOUR!) in the New Year, and now experts are asking why the FA haven't booked him a private jet to France in June.
