Derby County preys on Gounongbe (Westerlo)

Westerlospits Frédéric Gounongbe (27) is in the interest of Derby County, reports Het Laatste Nieuws. The English team did not report officially to the international of Benin, but in the entourage of the player is told that negotiations may be started after Saturday's game against RC Genk. Gounongbe turned out early last year to the thrill of the Jupiler Pro League with nine goals in eight consecutive games. Then he staggered from one in the other injury. The attacker is still not very fit, but this season has already scored twice. It is expected that the board will be involved in any transfer. Since Gounongbe is in his last contract year, it is for the Gamecocks last chance to make a tidy transfer fee.

Never heard of him but apparently he's 6'3

6ft 3' , 27 year old CF who can also play on the wing,  with 2 goals in 3 games this season, 9 goals in 15 games last season.

He'll be cheap as chips you'd imagine, but I'd say this was far more likely to be a flop than a masterstroke if it's true. I'm going to go with that it isn't true so I don't get inclined to do more research on him.

From the Republic of Benin (formerly Dahomey) in Africa. I doubt his English is great but being in Belgium he might know some, lots of English speakers there.

27 years old , no pro team till he was 24 and only 48 games , goal every other game though, that's not bad but stats a bit thin .

Fabio Grosso didn't play for a pro team till he was 24. He went in the score the winning goal in the world cup semi final and final.

27 and played less than 50 games ;)

Hes definitely played more than 50 games. His wiki doesn't have all his stats. Not surprising with him being an unknown really.

3 league games this season (2 goals)

14/15: 15 league, 2 in league playoff (9 goals)

13/14: 17 league games (10 goals)

12/13: (2nd division): 28 league games (11 goals) 1 cup game

10/11: (2nd division): 6 league games (2 goals)

total: 72  games, 34 goals, 6 assists, 15 yellow cards, no red cards.

Don't know the potential inaccuracy of these numbers but can't find anything that contradicts.

I think this style of player is certainly being looked at. It's painfully obvious we only have one striker who can play as a lone forward.
