Private Derby

After returning from his annual Christmas family holiday in Chatsworth, Regimental Mascot, Private Derby XXX has been busy preparing for the Regimental parades this weekend.

As part of these preparations, Derby was given the honour of leading out the teams when Derby County FC took on Nottingham Forest FC last Saturday in a ferocious East Midlands clash. This was the second time the Regimental Mascot had led out the teams at Pride Park, after doing the same for the Derby FC contest against Wolverhampton Wanderers (pictured below).

Following the good behaviour of Private Derby, the Regiment is pleased to announce that he will now lead out the teams for all Derby County FC home matches during the remainder of the 2014/2015 season.

I like this, nice to see an old tradition return.

Didn't someone say we've never lost when Private Derby was led out onto the pitch? That's THAT record knackered

Plus from an animal welfare point of view, is it not a bit cruel to lead a sheep in fancy dress into a stadium full of blaring noise? The poor thing must be terrified

It's better than being on a battlefield or in a hotpot.

Suely not as bad as the picture of Rammy holding a lamb pie the other day. Being made to walk out onto a pitch is one thing, but being forced to eat your own babies is quite another.

It's nothing short of an honour.

Rather be with the ewes at Chatchworth though.

I wondered when your paranoia would kick into overdrive.

He's always incredibly placid in noisy DCFC settings, never seems to turn even a little beard-hair at the volume of sound and mass of people. He must have had lots of crowd training.

We should get those guys in to calm Captain Keogh down a bit in stressful situations :o
