Steve Evans says on Ramsplayer that it was a full selection process and he interviewed Joe 3 times. Noticed on the video he described every appointment as someone who works hard. Appears to be the criteria for the club whether players or other staff.

Hmmm - Mo Camara was pretty dreadful as a left back when he was here. I shall not let that cloud my judgement of his scouting abilities...

However - appointing his own son does seem to reek of nepotism. He basically has two years experience at Twente and 3 months as an intern at Forest. In other words, nobody has ever given him a job apart from his own Dad.

absolute nonsense. Mo Camara never put a foot wrong defensively when here. This is the annoying and frustrating habit fans have now of judging someone on something that isn't their job! Mo Camara was awful once past the halfway line admittedly, but as a defender was steady and reliable.

Fascinating stuff - never had a problem with Simon Clough as scout before as him and Nigel had a decent eye for a player.

McLaren's record on transfers is patchy (like most managers) but his lad is a different person and is only looking at younger players so there shouldn't be any problems, as there is a reduced risk at bringing younger players in as opposed to seniors.

The Jim Smith days were great fun with bringing strong foreign talent into the club and I do think McLaren is a person who can get more from a foreign player than most English managers. However, the risk with foreign players is always greater...it's even more important (than British players) that they were right mentally, patient and their attitude is good. We have a great spirit within this squad and whoever comes in has to add to that dynamic, as well as being an asset skill-wise.

Is that really the case though? Yes, they can flop majorly, but they often cost a fraction of the price of a British player.

I don't think experience is needed in scouting to be honest, as long as you know football you should be fine.

I'd be a fantastic scout for instance, but it's Derby's loss that they haven't offered me anything <_<

You should send them your report on martin before this season, or a link to your articles as glowing references.

Ah I see the problem now..... ;-)

I would imagine all new players we will be greeting will be brunettes. I think he specialises in Goalhangers who play Upfield.

Didn't he have an uncle who once played for Red Star Belgrade? I know some posters might prefer this to be left unspoken but I prefer things out in the open.

Is that the one that looks like Robert De Niro and drives that Mitsubishi?

Being a scout must be the best job in the world. Going around the world being paid to watch football and find some gems

i wanna sign up

It's not like that for many though, travelling the country watching lower league football and driving miles isn't as much fun as you think. Even worse is when the club your visiting puts on a poor spread

I saw Gareth McAuley at Lincoln City once, tipped him to one day become a good standard Championship player, does that count? Must be worth something.

I think Jordan Ibe will be my next test of my potential spotting - rate him very highly. Interested to see how he does.

Not really sure how much longer we can use the excuse of not having the resources of clubs around us.

Training ground, stadium, management structure, scouting network....it's all there.

cannot remember the current management/coaching team using any excuse for anything...

No absolutely not, I'm talking about our fans. A lot of us talk about us over-achieving this season, which is probably true, but if we're still in the Championship next season I would expect something very similar or better.
