L_J_DCFC
Not in this day and age. Anyone can train with anybody. No paperwork involved with training. Was always likely to sign today so probably asked him to come training. Even if he didn't, he could still train and would be confirmed another day (tomorrow). Ambitious
I'm very impressed with the signing in fairness, I think he'll be on a par with most of our loan signings. (Wisdom, Bamford and Dawkins) 647 touches in 699 minutes at Watford suggests he will be ever present..
StaffsRam
I'm impressed that everyone seems to be on the same page these days. We say we need another striker, in comes another striker. We say we need a CDM, in comes a CDM. Expect Bavies and Bailey to be heading out shortly.

Do you remember when Bucko trained with Barcelona for 3 days before he was going to sign for them. However contract negotiations fell through after Barca couldn't persuade Messi to be part of the swap deal. I'm glad it didn't go through.
Phoenix
Should this be a slight concern? From the Watford Observer November 2013 Watford complete the loan signing of West Bromwich Albion's George Thorne 1:32pm Wednesday 6th November 2013 in Sport Picture: Action Images Watford have completed the loan signing of West Bromwich Albion's defensive midfielder George Thorne. The 20-year-old has joined on a youth loan until January 2 although the Baggies have a recall option after the first 28 days. The Hornets have been interested in Thorne for some time and they were close to concluding the deal on more than one occasion last month. However, the Baggies delayed his departure as he was unable to finish two Under-21 matches following a long lay-off with a serious knee injury. . . The player is highly regarded at West Brom and featured in seven consecutive games between late 2012 and January 2013 - starting five of those matches - before he sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury. . . Thorne returned to The Hawthorns in December(2012) where he made seven outings before sustaining the serious knee injury which has kept him out since. So he's been out almost a year. Do these type of injuries ever fully heal?

Do these type of injuries ever fully heal? Eustace injured his cruciate pretty badly back in 2005 and he's still playing 9 years on. Alan Shearer did his in his first season at Blackburn and still went on to become the worlds most expensive player at the time. It's rare that a cruciate ends or ruins a players career these days. Unfortunately Shaun Barker is one of the unlucky ones, but he did pretty much destroy his entire knee.

eddie
And Simon Dawkins Yep. Basically 12 months recovery tops. It's the physiotherapy that's so important after the surgery. Put the hard work in and you can - and will - fully recover.
AndyinLiverpool
Gascoigne and Owen were nowhere near the players they were after they did their knees. Though in Gascoigne's case he broke his leg and he was on the sauce. Anyway, I think McClaren is wise to go for these loans. At the end of the season, everyone will have seen what he can do and we'll be an attractive club to join. If we go up, the loans might consider joining us permanently; if we don't, we aren't saddled with a **** load of players on big wages.
Srg
Why should it be a concern? We aren't signing him permanently... so worst comes to worst we send him back and get someone else in. Best case is Watford have got him fit for us.

The Gascoigne who basically scored the second-best England goal I've ever seen in Euro 96? That was 5 years after his Gary Charles 'moment'. Definitely agree regarding Owen though. RodleyRam
Been saying a CDM is a critical Jan signing, so if that's where he plays and he's a more mobile Eustace then we've done really well. Eustace has been excellent but his lack of mobility these days makes him easier to bypass with a change of direction so hopefully Thorne will be able to play a similar game but deal with any pace in front of the back four. Don't know anything about him really but if he's that type of player it's exactly what we need.
