Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara is hoping he can hang on to the services of Gary Mackay-Steven.

The 22-year-old winger has been attracting interest from England, with Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United said to be keen on taking him to the Championship.

Mackay-Steven is, however, tied to a contract at Tannadice until 2015.

McNamara acknowledges that every player has his price, and that a sizeable bid could force his hand, but for now he is looking ahead with Mackay-Steven very much part of his plans.

He said: "It's part and parcel (given the) player's ability.

"Johnny Russell left there going into his last year, which we had to do. We couldn't afford not to. That's the nature of the business. The club has a selling point if players aren't going to sign new contracts.

"Fortunately Gary has two years to go so it puts us in a stronger position.

"Speculation means he is doing things properly and doing well, so long may it continue."

McNamara has been giving more attention to additions than departures of late and has hinted that the return of Mark Wilson to Tannadice may not be the last piece of transfer business he completes before the summer window closes.

He added: "I never say yes or no. Things change.

"Before Mark came in, we thought that was us with the transfers, but the opportunity came in. Whether that's the last, we'll wait and see when the window shuts."

Blackburn Rovers are considering a £500,000 bid for Dundee United winger Gary Mackay-Steven.

The Tele understands Rovers have been keeping a keen eye on the 23-year-old, who made the bench for Scotland’s 3-2 defeat at Wembley last week.

And with the transfer window set to slam shut in just 10 days, the Ewood Park outfit could be set to test the Tangerines resolve with an offer for their prized asset.

United, although not willing sellers, could be tempted to accept any bid for wing wizard Mackay-Steven, as his contract is set to run out next summer.

The dilemma faced by Stephen Thompson and the United hierarchy is a simple one — cash in like they did with Johnny Russell, or wait and risk watching GMS walk the same road as Willo Flood and Jon Daly.

Blackburn are believed to be keen to talk to United, but are not thought to want to pay any more than £500,000.

Hopes are high at Ewood that some kind of deal can be done.

Rovers believe they sit in a decent bargaining position, given the fact they came to an agreement with United over the loan of front man David Goodwillie.

Manager Gary Bowyer was keen to sell Goodie and recoup some money for his transfer budget but the club relented to the wishes of the player in allowing him to depart on a temporary basis.

Sources down south suggest Blackburn are hoping for some of the same goodwill from the SPFL Premier League side.

Elsewhere, United chiefs are expected at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne tomorrow, when a decision is set to be made on the fee owed for former striker Damian Casalinuovo.

FIFA ruled that United should pay Velez Sarsfield 400,000 Euros in compensation for the switch which happened back in 2009.

That figure was subsequently reduced to 230,000 Euros, however United have contested that claiming Casalinuovo was a free agent.

The Tangerines U/20s ran out 3-0 winners over Partick thanks to a brace from first-team striker Nadir Ciftci and one from fellow new boy Kudus Oyenuga.
