Chris Martin (Norwich Fan)

No idea what happened with the above reply.

It does feel as if we let our natural Grant Holt sucessor leave just before he he was reaching his peak footballing years just as Grant Holt was entering into a period of rapid decline.

I use that comparison because he was our talisman and goalscorer too, and I think Chris Martin learnt a lot from Holt (drawing in the foul etc). Both of them having the same primary asset.... a great footballing brain.

Martin is probably technically better than Holt was, good with both feet for a start, but their are strong parallels to be drawn between the two. They had a fantastic partnership for a season, I think Martin has learnt a lot from him.

Just think he had to leave, not always that simple. Norwich fans often say that we shouldn't have released Martin, I just think it needed to happen.

Never really had any reason to like or dislike Derby, but would be nice to see Chris Martin have a crack at the Premier League (which could go either way really) and now you've got Bradley Johnson too I think I'm going to have to make you my Championship team for the season.

With a bit of luck we'll be playing each other in the top division next season, rather than the second tier. Cheers!

You could pick any Derby player that's been around for a while and drag up lunacy on this forum. But those are pretty good. Someone should do this for the Keogh thread lol

Probably had some shockers myself to be fair.....just off to edit transfer talk threads now

On the original post, interesting that you mention he's a free-kick specialist. Never knew he'd had that label. He can really hit them though, don't think I've seen him hit a bad one. Why doesn't he take them more often? I've probably seen Ince and Russell take as many.

Banged in a load of free kicks for us in League One, pretty sure he was our primary direct free kick taker, also banged in a few on loan at Luton when he was a kid.

Very clever little player, according to Paul Lambert one of the best finisher's he has seen, just needs to leave Norwich and move somewhere permanently to fulfill some of his undoubted potential.

Went to Swindon very unfit, due mostly to us not having a reserve team, don't judge him on 1 goal in 12 though, unless you actually know what you are talking about because he only started 6 games and was often played as an attacking mid / second striker.

Is also a free kick specialist. Have no idea how you lot like to play football but I hope for your and Martin's sake it is with the ball on the floor and not pumping long balls up field because you have signed the wrong player if you want somebody to chase every lost ball or to win balls in the air.... his strength is clever link up play and final ball, needs the ball at his feet.

No doubt you are getting a fitter Chris Martin than Swindon did, wouldn't be surprised if he bangs in a few goals for you between now and the end of the season if he is there for that long.

What the kid really needs is to leave on a permanent and play week in week out, the best we've seen him is under Lambert in League One alongside Holt.... 23 goals and 8 assists that season. Struggled the next season in the Championship with injuries but respectable nonetheless that season as we won promotion. Played 30 times in our promotion season, although a lot off of the bench as Simeon Jackson was lethal in the second half of that season.

Hope he makes a decent impression at Derby and earns himself a permanent move to be honest. No doubt a good Championship player and once he gets a permanent to a Championship club I think he'll show that.

He's a Norwich boy through and through so I wish him nothing but the best, hopefully he'll do enough to earn himself a move to Derby at the end of the year, too clever for League One.

DiCanio may not have been able to get the best out of him, but Lambert did, and in half a season at Palace he may only have scored 7 but he was their top scorer in a team packed full of kids, Palace fans liked the fella.

That's it, have a nice life.

I'm actually shocked at how accurate this is. Couldn't have put it better myself!

He's taken eight for us, scored three and hit the woodwork twice. Unbelievable technique.

If you look at the Norwich compilation video quite early on in this thread you'll see him hit the bar with at least 3 free kicks!

you mention Simeon Jackson in your original post.... for a while he was the obsessions of a few Rams fans wanting him to come here... whatever became of him?

Who knows, last seen struggling for goals in League One!

Probably a mixture of being over rated at the time, loss of confidence, and not being hungry enough would be my complete guess.

In hindsight he only really had a great three months with us, he scored two or three super important goals including the promotion clincher, so he has a bit of a cult hero status due to one or two goals only, was never one of the first names on the team sheet and was more of an impact sub really. Probably just never all that good.

Looked a bit like Jermaine Defoe, scored a few goals which were Defoe-esque, so was suddenly seen by various Championship managers and fans as the 'poor mans Jermaine Defoe', when he was probably just not very good.

Surprised he's messing around in League One though, would have thought he could have got a good MLS deal whilst his stock was high, where the standard of defenders would continue to mask his complete mediocrity. Like Bradley Wright-Phillips.

maybe Nigel knew exactly what he was doing by not bringing him to Derby  (why is the emoticon icon the link chain?)

Did you clear your cache after the upgrade? did put a notice up for the day advising people to do so
