He didn’t encourage it , it started before they were even in the ground. He had every right to react as he did. If people gave him such foul mouthed abuse in their workplace they would lose their jobs, why should a football ground be any different. He said as a footballer, he expects to get stick, but there is a line and it was definitely crossed.

Yes it was a thing, basically it was do you want to be at the front or the back, now you get to choose your own seat but some people choose the front row but still stand up

No I agree with that. But I can't think that his reaction is very bright. Deliberate even. His choice.

I’ll start by saying I’m glad you started this thread @B4ev6is
However @RoyMac5 I’m on Billy’s side with this.  I was there and the two chants in question were so loud and relentless, it must have sounded like the whole crowd were singing them.  I remember being a bit bemused at the content as it seemed very specific and I’ve  heard absolutely nothing about Billy’s character that could precipitate any kind of attack, never mind this!!
I can only think that it was started by some deadheads and others thought there was some substance to it to join in!?!  Even so it was bad on so many levels.
On Sunday, I saw a Ram page on Facebook where Derby were being accused by Sheffield fans ( who I guess weren’t there) of singing about Billy’s son.  Now I can’t be 100% about that but I certainly didn’t hear anything like that.  Surely even moronic idiots don’t stoop that low, I certainly hope so. Social media maybe got two incidents roped together.
The thing is, we cannot complain about a horrible chant people might mistakenly think some fans chanted.  As those fans shouldn’t have been chanting what they ACTUALLY did. If you’re not singing vile untrue songs about players you won’t be suspected of singing others. DCFC doesn’t need any more enemies, but who could blame them.
The behaviour of these people can’t be blamed on their Vices, as a (very) younger man I was no angel, but never resorted to this kind of abuse.

I have a really radical idea, why don’t we have an area for standing for those that want to stand and an area with seats in it so people can sit

Ridiculous that we can't have under 23s versus Spurs on Rams TV because Brighton is playing Crystal Palace at the same time. Hardly the same audience!

I was there with the home supporters. I am Sheffield born and bred but a proud Ram.
I was there with a few other Derby fans plus some of my Blades friends.
The home supporters were extremely complimentary about the turn out for a side bottom of the league and almost £40 a ticket.
That soon changed with the chanting to Billy sharp. They could not believe the chanting which is completly untrue.
Why not get behind the team instead of coming out with a load of rubbish which only wound him up to put one over on us?
His reaction to our fans was well justified. If it had been me I would have been in the crowd doing a Cantona.
There was a lot of sympathy for our plight and how unlucky we were on the day but by the end of the game eveyone around us wanted us to be relegated.

He was yelled at all match, and scores a late winner.  Then says he doesn't like us...seems pretty temperate to me?
As for coming back to bite him,  he is very much in the twilight of his career and we are certainties to be in the division below for at least another season. Think he will be thinking he's already had the last laugh...except what was sung wasn't funny. Depressing when we are already public enemy no 1 we seem keen to reinforce that image.
In the horrible Premier League season we got a great reputation for just supporting the team regardless,  wish we could go that way rather than spiteful.  I take my kids to away games and the actions of the minority are really putting me off.

There is a difference between good natured laddish behaviour and loutish, socially unacceptable behaviour.  Anti social behaviour whether from 30 years ago or yesterday is no longer acceptable. It's no different from the 90's? Sorry, but times and attitudes have changed and demographics have changed as well. We don't want it all to be about blankets, bovril and happy clapping but equally we don't want to be sat next to someone who is out of their mind on drugs or alcohol screaming foul mouthed abuse all through the match. When behaviour impinges on the enjoyment of others and makes them feel intimidated then it is wrong.
