He's my hero. Saved our club and looks like undoing the bulk of the damage endured under MM in only his second season as owner. Deserves all the plaudits he gets in spades IMO.

🙏🏻 agreed. We are on the verge of being promoted. And another step closer to the prem. We were so close to there not being a DCFC anymore, only for David to save us. He deserves the credit and all the sentiment he gets. We should have a song for him of course. And we should all be eternally grateful for his sacrifice. He deserves this more than anyone

Couldn’t find a standalone Clowes thread, so started this one. As someone who was very much in the Warne Out camp and thought Clowes was making a mistake for keeping him on, I have to hold my hands up and say he was bang on to hold his nerve and not be swayed by an increasing amount of hostility.
I still have my thoughts on how the club should be run differently, but we can save those for another day. I may have missed it, but this man needs a proper song ASAP.

He seemed to quite just like "david give us a wave" but appreciate he may have wondered if instead it was aimed at our@David

My memory is not as good as it was🤣 thought it started in 70,s with scarves round wrists following bay city rollers trend. Not me though, just a little to old to be a bay city roller fan.🤣😂

Those were pretty much the exact words he shouted at me minutes after beating Leeds in the play offs.

@Archied Forum regulars will know that for some of us there is more riding on Saturday than securing the points for promotion. It feels very much a tribute to those who aren’t here who have stuck with DCFC through thick and thin.

I’m really excited as I haven’t seen a DCFC promotion. When I last held a season ticket Derby were in the Premier League. I can’t imagine just how excited Daniel would be right now, but I bet he would be saying “I told you they would do it”
I’ll be thinking of you and your dad on Saturday ❤️🐏

Thanks mate. I’m in the same boat (minus Wembley pictures sadly). I’m glad I was around for 06/07, and I remember a fair amount of it (far more than many of the Clough years actually), including the day itself. But I don’t recall being hugely emotional about it all.
On being a parent, my mum has given me her ticket for Carlisle, bless her.

I think the players in 1996 went in the directors box with jim and lionel not round the pitch, to many fans on the pitch. The directors box was very close to the pitch there.

Cheers Rich. You’re right on the social thing. I’ve gone from being a season ticket holder and regular away traveller, to watching on my laptop on my own at 8am this season. And I’ll admit, it’s massively affected how invested I’ve been.
I found out a couple of weeks ago that I could be home for the final two games (received some financial assistance for the flight), and it’s like I’ve never been away. I got in from a night out at 4am on Saturday morning, and yet it was the easiest wake up call I’ve ever had for the game.

I was that age during the McClaren Wembley season and yeah, even at that age you don’t really savour stuff. It takes heartbreak and age to let you truly appreciate the good times.

Fantastic posts. @Archied really got me thinking. Football fandom is a very social thing. I try not to miss a single game, but celebrating goals and victories or suffering losses on my own just isn't the same. Fortunately a couple of friends texted me last week to say that they were coming to my home next  Saturday to watch the game with me and help me celebrate. At first I thought "well, ok", but now I'm really excited about it. Having friends with me (I'll also be thinking about my dad who left us two years ago) will make it so much sweeter. @B4’s Sister, I'm sure you and your family will shed a few tears at the final whistle knowing how your brother would be feeling. Let it all out, he deserves it.
And please, please, please Derby, don't 🦆 it up.

I'm 30 and kind of enjoyed the billy davies years at the age of 13-14 but it wasn't the prime age to really savour it. It is the first really big bit of success we've had as supporters and we should treasure it. Yes it's the third division but it doesn't matter. Considering what happened at the club two years ago and we almost went bust it makes this promotion extra special. We should all be singing our hearts out next Saturday as we finally confirm an automatic promotion!

We dont know what sort of football we will be watching next season, so lets at least give him chance, not write us off before a ball has been kicked.

His excitement may be attributable to the  1968\69 season when we won league 2 with Sir Brian, for so many seasons Derby had been nowhere, then all of a sudden it was as though someone had waved a magic wand and all our football dreams came true. It was one of those "you had to be there moments" I remember thinking, at the time, that things like this didn't happen to Derby County but they did. 😀
Having seen the changes in our fortunes there's a feeling, deep deep down, that this might happen again.
Yes I know things have changed and money rules football but facts and sats cannot compete with dreams.

This. I truly thought we were going in admin. Everyone always says it'll take a big club to go before anything changes and I thought we were it. Added to that the terrible stuff we were going through with my dad's dementia (his first awful episode was the night we went into admin) and it was really rock bottom.  Have felt quite emotional many times at PP since Christmas because of what going up represents and it hit me again yesterday at the game esp as Camb away was first match dad took me to. I cannot imagine what it feels like for David Clowes and his family.

I dont care if other teams mock us if we do go up and celebrate it as if we've won the champions league as its not just the promotion and until it happens to their team in the same way they will never understand.
