kevinhectoring reacted to DarkFruitsRam7 in Derby or England on Saturday?
Seen this on twitter, so thought I’d bring it to the forum. If you could only choose one team to win on Saturday, would it be Derby or England?
For me, the answer is easy. I’d much rather England beat France in a World Cup Quarter Final and have the whole country go mad than Derby win a random league game.

Did they just decide we were the two best teams left and told everyone else to go home?
But yeah England all day.
England winning the World Cup is only beaten by Derby winning the Prem/FA Cup/any European Trophy.
As we're not realistically competing for any of them, our games have taken a back seat until England go out.

They have won only 3 WC games since 2010

I noticed Remo Freuler was busy getting acclimatised for his return to the Notts Forest squad by helping his Swiss team-mates get walloped 6-1.
Keep it up lad ??

What a weird take! He even won the double in the season he retired, not forgetting the Balon D'or at one point.

Just watching the stunning efforts from the Morrocan keeper and thinking this guy has figured out how counter them. Strikers have no idea which way he is going!

I’d rather Spain go through. Morocco would be a more difficult opponent.

Well 2 thoughts. This ‘body of work’ for England thing. We’re not talking about whether he should be installed alongside Gascoigne and Charlton in the English footie Pantheon . (Yet!) Form for a club can be the main factor that drives selection. MacGuire is the exception
The other thing this guy is saying is that the speed with which FF makes his game changing contributions - it’s often just one touch - leads to them being undervalued.
You said a couple of days ago something like ‘it’s not that Foden is outright slow ... Well maybe it’s a thing shortarses can do but he’s like Messi the way he changes direction in a flash. Defenders have no idea what he will do next and what he does next invariably inflicts maximum damage. He’s like mercury. I don’t care if he comes over as stupid in an interview, with that footballing brain he belongs in mensa

Can't remember which comedian said 'No one accuses Stephen Hawking of being crap at football,'?
He's certainly an intelligent footballer, regardless of how articulate he is with a camera shoved in his face.
Also much prefer the use of 'shortarse' over Lineker thinking he's being smart and non-patronising each time he refers to Messi as 'diminutive'.

Assuming it’s when the ball crosses the line, it’s likely the green middle one right at the bottom.

I think high and hard is better than low and hard.
I remember watching Real Madrid v Bayern penalties in 2012 ish and both Ronaldo and Kaka missed what were actually hard, low and right in the corner penalties. Neuer just guessed right both times.
But going high and the keeper will rarely get there because they guess diving mid to low height.
Saying all that, Ivan Toney has the best technique and I don’t know how he does it. Looks so laboured but scores all the time.

Their fans, why can’t we win 3-0 like England.

Rashford's goals in Qatar have masked the fact that his all round play has been sloppy - that's why Foden and Saka will get the nod over him against France. If we're chasing the game, the likes of him, Grealish and Sterling are ideal subs, but they're not ideal when control of the game is essential.
I was surprised that Wilson didn't replace Kane at 3-0 to protect him, because in previous sub appearances he's proved to be mobile, energetic and unselfish - a reliable replacement.
Bellingham is a genuine superstar in the making. Him, Kane and Rice are the guaranteed starters in any game.
One thing Southgate MUST do against France is instruct the CBs to use the ball like they did in the last hour and not the first 30 minutes, otherwise Mbappe will put the game out of reach before HT.

He’s on a different plane. I think he’ll start every game from now on in. Not at his very best tonight. He could put the French defence to the guillotine

Not at his best but involved in all three goals ?
He’s so inventive. Not everything comes off but when you face the best, you need something special and he’s one who can produce that.

One of the great benefits of being deaf - I couldn't hear that gobshite Roy Keane even if I wanted to.

That isn't Kane's USP. He is the best passer of the ball in the squad, brilliant at hold up and great at linking play. You could put Wilson on to score goals, but he won't do any of those things.
Kane doesn't sit deep when he's tired. That's fundamentally misunderstanding his playstyle, he does that every week at Spurs to great success. He isn't a traditional 9. Foden has never had the assist numbers Kane has been putting up the last few years, and Bellingham is more a box to box midfielder.

Because he was immensely wasteful with possession.
We have players who have and will score goals from similar positions. But possession will be key from now on. You can't have the first touch of Romelu Lukaku playing with a balloon in a knock-out game

Poland needed to score one of those three efforts. They wont get many more this game.
