Citalopram has saved my life. The drugs do work. I've had mental health issues all my life but didn't confront them until things got to a point of almost no return. I have the occasional melt down when life gets too much but for me this has been a wonder drug.

When I became depressed I was horrified at how little control my brain had over my body! My imagination ran wild and I really started to sweat the small, insignificant and perceived stuff. I become affected by anything which normally I might laugh off as small stuff. My heart raced, the adrenaline pumped, I felt sick with worry and I tried so hard to use my brain to reason my way through the crisis, but it just doesn't work that way. Anyone who has had no contact with mental illness has no idea what it is like and only those of us who have experienced it for ourselves can understand what sufferers are going through. CBT is excellent, especially in the case of trauma. Where depression is due to a chemical imbalance in the brain then tablets to correct that imbalance can help enormously. Sometimes these tablets have side effects but sometimes they only last for a while until your body adapts to them. (For me, it was yawning!) Side effects don't affect everyone and may be milder in some people. Don't think you're going to get everything listed!
Tablets were the answer for me, but be patient because they can take as long as 4 weeks to kick in. But when they do they can make such a difference if they are the right ones for you. If not go back to the doctor and keep going back until you feel better and I really hope that you feel better soon!

My take on it: I'll be glad to get back to normality so social distancing and mask wearing is a thing of the past.
I'm a little concerned that the high case rate may translate into more cases in hospital but so far, that doesn't seem to be happening. So far, so good.
We need to keep the vaccination programme running at the same pace as it is now, as we know that it doesn't take much for people to start catching it. I heard a story about a couple of people in a crappy little fishing town in the north who went for a few glasses of dry white wine with friends, now they're both self isolating. Pubs full of people, with someone in there spreading the virus around, passing it through their colleagues, friends and family - the best defence for everyone is to get vaccinated, let's get numbers down to as low as we can.
I'll probably be ready to keep wearing a mask, in public crowded indoor places, if that seems to be the social norm. If I'm in a supermarket I'll put one on, but if I find 90% of shoppers aren't doing it, I'll not bother. I'm double jabbed, so although I don't feel invincible, I don't think I'm at risk of dying. But you never know.
I think we'll be scrapping the masks and the social distancing. It'll be back to normal with hygiene measures soon (with people not bothering washing their hands after they've been for a poo, never mind carrying back the shopping from the car). Because people are dirty sods at the best of times.

Just wanted a place to post etc as I don't really have many people to rant to.

I started a new job (with the same company) on Thursday, today, I crashed a van. Not wrote it off just hit a bollard in a tight entry. I can't explain how much my anxiety has took over regarding this and the thoughts I have running through my head at this point in time. I've reported it, but couldn't admit to my collegues that I had done it, but I have to my manager. Seriously think I need to get to the Drs tomorrow for something to calm my nerves/thoughts running away with them selves. Seriously The stuff I'm considering (that means I don't have to face anyone on Tuesday)should not be running through anyone's head.

As I said I don't have many friends anymore due to deleting all social media years ago and this rant just helps me let go a bit.

You are so right, Bearwood. Not all drugs work for all people, but once you've found one that works the results can be life changing. So glad that you are much better!! I've found that on days when I feel a tad anxious, I get a bottle of iced cold water from the freezer and carry it around with me, sipping as needed. I suspect I've talked myself into believing its restorative and calming powers, but it seems to work! ?

Thank you, yes we are doing much better, it has been a tough few months, but yesterday we picked up the keys to our new home. During lockdown last year we lived in a 2 bed flat with no garden, my 3 year old had no where to play bless him, another source of stress for me.  We managed to sell our place, rent somewhere temporarily and buy somewhere with a big garden for my son to play in. We finally picked the keys up yesterday and seeing the smile on my sons face when he saw his new garden is something I will never forget.
Derby County are a continued source of stress at the minute, but if my situation tells us anything, even in the longest darkest tunnel, there will be light at the end eventually.

Despite the eccentricities of some on the forum, and massively passionate emotions - and despite knowing how terribly upset so many of us will be if we get relegated - we are lucky to be able to have this forum to get the stresses off our chests.
But I have just realised that with relegation being a real possibility - and with lockdown associated isolation, reducing the resilience of many - that for a few Derby County fans, they may be at much greater risk than would be usual when a team gets relegated.
Derby County goes to the core of some, and for anyone more vulnerable than they might normally be in normal times, the risks may be higher for those few. (There will be some left feeling bereft by relegation - with this being on top of other problems - and with relegation pushing them over the edge - maybe.)
Maybe the club might want to arrange counselling for the worse affected fans! Or something!
Truly, maybe the club could subscribe to a helpline service for a few weeks - and advertise the number somehow - even during the match - in case of relegation!
This is not a normal season, when the gut wrenching moment of relegation would be shared with thousands of others. For some, it will be felt alone. And for some, it will be on top of having vastly reduced resilience.
It is a good job that we have this forum - for us lot to get Derby related stress off our chests! But, there'll be some isolated fans out there with no release!
I know that I spout nonsense sometimes - and have terrible attempts at humour - but I don't think we should laugh about this.
I might be worrying too much - but if others agree - and there is sufficient consensus - maybe David could pass on any such consensus to the club.
I don't think that I am being unrealistic or over dramatic ...
We fans all go through highs and lows - from minute to minute in games - match to match - season to season. That's part of being a fan.
I just wonder if lockdown might make it dangerously worse for a few fans out there? I doubt that it will include people on the forum.
Maybe others can see the risks more clearly, or have good ideas about how best to reach out to anyone that might be at risk of we get relegated.
(Basically, I have noticed how forum members are seemingly protecting themselves mentally - preparing themselves for the emotional roller coaster that would come from relegation. Many say that relegation is inevitable. They will be delighted to be proved wrong. But, they will cope with relegation better if it happens, I think. But, if so many forum members are doing things like this ... it made me realise that there will be some, out there, in a far more vulnerable state after a year of isolation - and I suddenly worried about how they will cope if we should be relegated.)
(We are less likely to be relegated than the other two teams - but there is a significant chance that it will happen.)

A few months ago, a Piers Corbyn led march of anti vaxx, anti lockdown protesters tried to bring Birmingham City centre to a standstill. They failed but amongst the ragbag of conspiracy theorists was a bloke with three flags. One said 'Trump won', another said 'Covid fake news' and the other said 'BBC lies'. I'll stick to the BBC.

Rare I agree with you @Angry Ram, but fair do's you've hit the nail on the head. Yes, there's an element of the loony left that does this, and wants to organise against businesses or organisations that don't fit with their world view. The problem is, once you start down that road you end up so fragmented it's like in the Life of Brian. The People's front don't agree with the popular front because of their views on Trans rights, or sustainability, or positive discrimination, or a million and one other things.
I like a broad church. We don't have to agree. I don't agree particularly with JK Rowling's views, others probably will. But she's allowed to think it and speak it, even if people disagree.
Having an opinion is perfectly acceptable. Even when it's wrong.

In response to a comment that the cancel culture "is done almost entirely by loony lefties".
You've got right wingers murdering politicians, you've got the Gillette backlash, you've got booing taking the knee, you've got "Ban the BBC" and you've got the backlash about "Black Lives Matter". You've got people complaining that the likes of Gary Lineker shouldn't be given a platform on Twitter because they're paid for by the license fee. All part of cancel culture, but the side that the "unwoke right" prefer not to see when they talk about cancel culture.
I'm just reminding you all, that the Cancel Culture isn't just the left. And then I get told to take my post down as it's disrespectful and "not playing nicely". I'm not saying anything personal, just that the issue is across both sides of the argument.

It's fine to think the politics should be removed. It's fine to report it.
It's less fine to complain but not help the mods by reporting content you feel is not in line with the rules.
