How does he come in ahead of anybody, let alone as high as he is today?

Because he downed tools and made it quite clear he didn’t want to be here prior to his departure.

Brilliant player, was pleased he had a good game. Wish it wasn't against us!

Not at all.  I wish we had a midfielder who was that savvy.  He bossed the game without appearing to break a sweat, and we only got back into it when he went off...
If anything our collective hatred for Gary 'The Snake' Rowett should increase exponentially

He’s 19!! 19 for crying out loud! To think anyone can make a judgement on him one way or the other at such an age is beyond me. Maybe he’ll turn out great and maybe he won’t that’s what happens with young prospects. I remember thinking Miles Addison would go on to greatness but he didn’t. To say Sibley is this or that is beyond bizarre in my view as he has so much time to learn and progress, why judge him at 19?

Waghorn has been pretty bad since he's returned. Constantly losing the ball or making poor passes. He's not contributing much at all right now.

I understand our current situation keeping him out. But that's also an argument to play him as he's the only player who can bag a brace out of nowhere.
The best place for him to learn, as with any young player, is playing in the first team.
I'm starting to grow concerned over the handling of both Sibley and Bird.
Bird is not a DM. Sibley needs to play.

He’s just got the rashness of youth. He is desperate to get back to the days of hero worship. Who wouldn’t be at 19?

But because he’s such a man in a hurry, every time he wants the ball, he’s thinking about what he’s going to do next. So his attention lapses and he doesn’t do the basics of getting the ball under control to do whatever comes next.
You’re right that he then lunges into tackles and referees will always have whistle in mouth and one hand on a card when he does so.
I just think he needs a friendly arm round the shoulder and to know that if he takes it down a notch, he can become a more effective member of the team. Use all of that energy to support teammates then utilise the give and go to make chances for himself. He will be a major force if he can do so.

Not sure why you can’t see it, he’s a talented boy. Just a little over enthusiastic at times shall we say and needs to contain himself a little better so not to become a liability without losing who he is.
His time will come, I’m sure of it.

Hmmm.. Deeply unsatisfying performance from the umpires. As for Kohli, whilst it's easy to acknowledge his stature as a batsman, I've not much time for him as a sportsman. Watching him refuse to walk when cleaned bowled kind of sums up his character for me. I don't think I've ever seen someone bowled and refusing to walk before, though I could be wrong. He even bullied the umpires into a 'free' review! I very much doubt Root would be afforded the same.
All of this notwithstanding, we've been properly schooled in this test, though I do feel this match was always going to be decided on the toss of a coin. It's clearly a hopeless task now so I think we need to dust ourselves down, re-group and hope for better luck next time. I'm still not concerned by our top order batsmen and I think when we find ourselves in bother, it's typically because they've failed to deliver. I'm hoping Zak Crawley can add some stability though I'm not convinced he plays spin that well at this early stage of his career.

I can’t work out that ball. Not that it was given not out just the whole damned thing! Kohli giving umpires an ear full. Get on with it man as Mr Lloyd would say!

    Only 2?
I've got 1) the stumping that was ON the line, not behind it, given not out... 2) the catch off the glove that was reviewed but the 3rd umpire chose to look at a non-existent LBW instead.... 3) the hiding of the bat behind the pad being considered to be a legitimate shot ... that's 3 howlers!

The pitch was really dry at the start which meant that it was always going to break up. Big puffs of dust coming up on a regular basis. Foakes has been brilliant behind the stumps because the ball is turning and lifting alarmingly for a first day pitch. In my view he was robbed of a stumping when the replay showed no part of Rohit’s foot behind the line.
The only players who have scored runs did so by playing their shots and I think England may need to do the same. This could be over in three days.
Only Stone and Leach have bowled well consistently. Broad and Moeen look rusty and Stokes looks like he’s going through the motions.
Best bit of the day was Moeen clean bowling Kohli with a ball so good, Kohli reviewed it!

For me it's fine. I don't need bells and whistles and I don't need some senile old fart singing Neil Diamond.
Perhaps it's just that I hate Neil Diamond.

Justice twice now. Rohit not given stumped then Rahane not given caught. Dismissals soon after in both cases.

Yes fingers crossed for Foakes. In most eras he’d have a hatful of caps by now. Just possible they play Stone and the Indians hurriedly prepare a pitch that plays into his hands. Anything could happen

Don't want to put the kibosh on him but Foakes is a really good keeper and a top order batsman. A worthy replacement.
Really hope Stone plays but at 1-0 up they might favour Woakes ' batting.

Rotherham match already called off due to a frozen pitch. Even Chorley managed to hire heaters for a few days leading up to our FA Cup match. Surely a Championship club should be expected to do the same. I can understand matches getting called off for rain and snow but frozen pitches seems a bit amateur-ish at this level

Or Broad and Stone. Stone is the like for like replacement in terms of pace.
They have stuck to their guns so far in selection and said they would alternate Broad and Anderson.

I think you are right. But why select Woakes in the first place?
There has to have been more purpose to Woakes' selection than just giving Moeen a lift to the airport.

You're probably right. As a Warwickshire man myself, I'd love to see Olly Stone in action.
On a similar note, Chris Woakes is still around, isn't he?

I do wonder how much of our awful start to the season under Cocu was influenced by us (presumably) having to play Rooney every game?. His playing form was awful & mistakes cost us.

    WHAT A CATCH!
Bess bowls an absolute pie and Rahane drills it wide of Root at cover who dives to his left and takes it one handed.

Brilliant from England today and as a critic of Dom Bess, I have to say he has bowled much better today and thoroughly deserved the wicket of Kohli.
