I always wonder about that phrase, "I take full responsibility". I'm not even talking about Rooney specifically; lots of managers use it. But what does that actually mean? You'll resign? You won't accept a pay off if sacked? You won't take your (large) salary until the team starts winning again? In most other 'real world' jobs people really do have to take responsibility for poor performance, and there can be serious career and financial consequences if they do. I wish a journalist would sometimes ask for clarification of what they mean, because otherwise it can sound like just another football cliché.

He's really only given one interview. It is then repeated the next time ad nauseum.

Just listen to any of the previous few interviews: "must win game. Emphasized to the lads it's all about the result."
    Or he might just say:
"They're dead men walking if they dont get a result - I won't be taking the blame. It's up to them to perform. They have to be brilliant or we will get relegated and I will make sure they never play professional football again. I also want them to play with no fear. And enjoy it."

Why are you interested out of curiosity? What comes out of his trap is totally divorced from reality so are worthless utterances.

Guaranteeing to the public that we won't go down because the players are too good to do so isn't taking the pressure off... as I've said a few times the stoke post match interview just gave us a small insight into the mentality that crept into management and player which has led us here. My suspicion is that as soon as we went on a run of form that dragged us 8 points above the drop, Rooney and co. thought job done for the season and so did the players- he was talking about automatic promotion next season ffs.

Can see your point: there needs to be a plan in place.
One of the biggest criticisms of Mel Morris' tenure should be his consistent chopping and changing, not necessarily of managers, but of managers who have very different styles/visions for the way we play. take this for example:
    - Clement (possession), to Pearson (low possession, counter), to McClaren (possession/overload) to Rowett (low possession, counter), to Lampard (total gamble), to Cocu (possession), to Rooney (total gamble).
But every single one of these appointments can be justified for one simple reason: the right appointment can transform any team.
There's so many examples of this in the game that I won't bore you with them, but look perhaps at the recent effect of say: Bielsa on that Leeds team, Warnock on that Boro team, McCarthy on that Cardiff team. Same players at the beginning of their tenure, total transformation in playing style (and results).
The Rooney gamble hasn't worked and we're hurtling towards relegation. We have 1 win in our last 12 games. Can you really blame supporters for feeling like time is up on this marketing-appointment and wanting the club to have another go at making the right appointment?

    ^This
They saw the same useless lump waddling around giving minimal effort that we saw.
The worst part was he was technically the best player in the squad by some distance...........he just didn’t seem to care.

I can accept claims the squad is not as strong as we’d like but does a lack of skill/quality also mean a lack of application/effort ?
You don’t have to be the best footballer in the league to cover,  track runners and generally make life more difficult for your opponent. I’m not seeing too much graft.

I am not, but the players don’t get sacked, the Manager does. The manager takes responsibility, it’s really not rocket science. Wazza is only still in the job due to finances and the takeover fiasco. Otherwise trigger happy Mel would have got rid by now...

No, you are totally missing the point that regardless, whatever the reasons are, the manager takes ultimate responsibility for the failings on the pitch....

For me personally it's nothing to do with not being able to cope, there are other things far more important than the Rams for me. However, I want the best for the club and don't think the circus we have become since Rooney joined is a positive thing. He wasn't qualified to do the job, should never have been appointed and his inexperience is costing us dear.....

Teuchel tightened up on goals conceded by Chelsea. He did this by spending ten percent of time in training on defensive work and 90 percent on attacking. Hello. He said that football is about attacking. Hello.

His whole Derby career has been a farce. the ridiculous circus when we signed him, the forgettable performances on the pitch and a shocking stint as a manager. It's amazing what a shambles we've become in the last 6 years. Even Frank Lampard seemed an immature choice at the time, but he's a significantly more charismatic figure and we managed to scrape a decent enough season together, probably owed largely to Jody Morris.

(disclaimer. I typed Jody Marsh first, and said "wait that doesnt sound right").

The win records of our recent managers is doing the rounds again and is as painful as ever. Rooney needs to go asap. I don't buy for a second that these players aren't good enough - we certainly don't have the best squad in the league, but a decent manager can have them pick themselves up, show a bit of belief, dig in and get us points on the board.

    Rooney’s stats are wrong.
Where’s the 25% for being Englands all time record goal scorer??????
Then we have the 15% massive celebrity bonus as well!
So in reality Rooney has a win percentage of 70.3%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

one thing that does my head in is every time we get the ball, the first thought is pass it back....or sideways. never forward. i don’t understand it. why do we pass it along the back 4 20 times then pass it to the keeper just to boot it up field! not one team ive seen does this. no teams centre halfs should have the most touches in a match. i feel the attacking intent has been coached out of them

It’s another case though of Mel saying he wants X to happen then does Y.
He told McClaren to get us clear of the relegation places and start to get us playing football again.
So what does McClaren do? He spends the first few weeks trying to get us playing football but results stutter so he simply makes us hard to beat. Carson, Keogh, Pearce and Johnson were like granite until January. We zoom up the league to fifth.
We then try and evolve and try to start playing more football, bringing in a link up striker in Nugent and a (yes, I know he was poo) controlling midfielder in De Sart. We try and open up and start conceding for fun. We drop to mid-table because McClaren tried to get us playing football again.
    And he’s sacked!

I think some of that Cloughie sentiment is a bit more to do with him being perceived a bit more as: one of us...maybe?
I won’t lie, I’m a bit of a Nigel apologist and always want him to do well when I see him pop up at another club.
He absolutely turned our club around, from top to bottom, after inheriting an absolute mess. We might be in need of someone to do a similar job after this season ?
