One of my East End mates lives in Sydney nowadays so went to the game. Last night he texted he was over the defeat, because West Ham had beaten Chelsea, which was much more important. It made me wonder, is there anyone on here who would rather Derby had lost against Fleetwood if it had meant the women winning the World Cup?

Me I’d rather Derby beat Fleetwood than the men winning the World Cup.

If you thought Beckham only took set pieces then I dunno what to tell you.

Point would be, Joe Ward (pre-injury) would get similar numbers, yet was much more valuable from open play. If you get someone who is better from open play than Hourihane, he should be taking his place. Currently, he's one of several who isn't showing enough.

That stat was from before Saturday’s game so no one had better numbers.
He isn’t Messi but more effective than some give him credit for an easy whipping boy maybe.

Beckham one trick pony who helped England get knocked out of two World Cups. Getting sent off for petulance in one and ducking out of a tackle V Brazil that cost a goal.

I agree. I couldn't quite believe the love in for him on Radio Derby. I don't see it with Hourihane. He seems to have no influence on the game. He made one shocking pass, pinged it blindly into the center of midfield from the left, i couldn't fathom what he was trying to do. He runs around a bit, rarely tackles (although Radio derby were trying to suggest the goal only came about because he made a routine tackle in the middle of the park that Cashin would have got anyway), can't seem to head anything and yes he takes the set pieces but I wouldn't say he's that great at it ( how many goals have come from them). However we don't really have any other options in CM, Maybe Sibley. I think he's living off his history and his name. If he was someone who had come up through the academy he wouldn't be getting a game.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised. Their respective coaches think they're good enough for the matchday squad, which they clearly didn't last year and you do see some kids improve exponentially for some experience of senior football. Both have a deal of promise based on what we saw IMO, though both obviously still raw talents rather than more finished articles. I think Osula just needed game time, to be honest. A couple of quiet games and he was done.

Springett getting minutes for Norwich as well

Just seen Troy Deeney has signed for Forest Green Rovers as a player coach. He would have been definitely a target for me before the likes of wash, waggy and even Collins. Hes a big nightmare for defenders who in reality, is built to do well in the lower leagues. He's a promotion winner, a leader and the latter is definitely something we need. We also need a solid CDM because as well as smith does, I feel like we lack a presence and a solid spine through the team. There's too many nearly men and questions over peoples best positions and roles, that is not a team or system that is going to work imo.

I take it you didn’t see Deeney play for Brum last season ? Unfit and overweight. Most Brum fans said he was finished and disinterested .

I suspect he will do more coaching than playing at Forest Green.

The Deeney of 4/5 years ago I would have been agreeing with you.
