On disagreement, I think the slogan from Wisdom of Crowds works nicely  "Agreement is nice. But disagreement is better. And we mean that."
On Warne, It's great he's took us up but I don't feel he should get that much slack on the rope. This year we need to avoid relegation simple as that. If we're in the bottom 3 after 15-20 games Warne should be gone. We did go up but that was to be expected in the second year. Warne's record makes me quite nervous about his capability at that level I won't lie. But he's got to be given a chance to succeed or fail on his own merits.

It’s natural to feel like you do , the one thing I would advise though is to keep in the back of your mind if possible that so often in life things that happen that seem to be negative at the time turn out to be the best things that happen to us , try to stay positive and trust where life takes you , we make plans then life just laughs and takes us where we are meant to go

I'm in a similar position albeit i've only another 10 years to think about.  Mate of mine became a tree surgeon after 20 years of being an accountant,  another mate of mine joined him who'd spent 8 years studying physics and was a technical engineer- he had a passion for climbing stuff and by his early 30's the aspirations he had in his chosen field hadn't overly come to fruition.  Three years later another mate who been a teacher for over 20years joined in to save his sanity .  They don't earn as much but they're all very happy to be doing something else and are all very fit.   It's an interesting conversation i'm sure when they discuss their backgrounds with their customers.  Regardless of whether your using your qualification or not it shows an employer you have an aptitude, can learn at a decent level and can apply yourself.  It will be the interpersonal skills they're looking at in interview and whether you can cope with Bob in accounts temper tantrums.

With a DPhil you're not going to struggle. NGOs, trade agencies, even the intelligence services are all viable options that could all be 'vocational' to a degree.

My Sons partner is a qualified Micro Biologist through Her term at University, Difficult to get a job in this field in Derby but ended up at a pest control company, Then moved to London...a couple of different jobs and then a move back to Derby, Got a job with Derbyshire Police as an analyst, Now uses her skills for the NCA...👍
There must be a huge pool of vacancies that @Leeds Ram can dip into, Even some that isn't on their radar 🤷‍♂️

What are your spine-tingling derby moments? The moments where a little tear started to come down from your eyes or a shiver went down your spine? For me there are more than a few. But the most recent one must be the atmosphere before kick off at Pride Park against Carlisle. Not sure I've ever heard the ground this loud and after all the club had been through a couple of years ago it felt like a truly cathartic release of passion, energy and noise.  (youtube video start at just before 4 minutes)

Thanks 🙂 Yeah I do have plenty of transferrable skills. Think I'm just a bit sad at the likelihood of having to leave something that is my vocation really for an alternative career I really struggle to get as excited about. I've heard plenty of positive stories so am trying to keep focused on that though.

I’m sure you’ll have lots of transferable skills for private companies in your subject area. There may be work available at research funding bodies, knowing how research funding systems work would be an advantage. Consultancy? Tutoring? Sometimes unexpected opportunities come along. Good luck 🤞🏻

Always hate this month as it would have been my dad's birthday. This year he'd have been 60. Also got the additional stress of my academic job contract running down and trying to work out if I'll get an extension or not... with my industry in the doldrums it's not a fun time to say the least. Also been feeling really down generally with work and struggling to find the motivation to finish what needs to be done.

Roy Mac, my old man was mates with a lot of the 70's team and Roy has always been really nice to our family.
Stevie Powell, really decent bloke, again mates with my dad, played with his lad Stevie jr. for the Rams under 16's and he was another top bloke, as was his dad Tommy. Really nice family.
Ken Oxford , bloke was my first ever GK coach, taught me the basics when school and Allestree Juniors couldn't be bothered, took a keen interest in my progression in later years. Worked as a security guard in later life, got attacked once, he fell on the cash box like a GK on the ball and wouldn't let go, top top man.
Roger Davies, when Ken or Eric Steele couldn't play for the ex-Rams team Roger would give me a call as a 17 year old to help out in nets, he was a proper gent and looked after me, always asks if I'm still playing when he sees me. Not so nice to play against with his elbows and stuff mind 😂
Eric Steele, first met him when I was about 12 on one of his coaching courses, then he was the GK Chesterfield brought in when I was there, took an interest in me and took me training with first team keepers at Wolves and Oxford. Broke the news to me very gently and respectfully that I wouldn't get a pro-contract at Chesterfield. After I had a few years doing party drugs and the like and stopped playing football he heard that I was back playing at Mickleover, he invited me round to his house and some harsh words for me and gave me a load of Sondico gloves (same ones Poomy wore) and boots, he had no reason to do that. and shows the mark of the man. as far as I'm concerned. He has got loads of signed gloves for my mums charity, likes of Butland, Allison, Pickford. Still meet up every couple of months for a coffee and a chat, he even has me coaching sometimes! 90% of people in the game have so much time for him, also a Rams legend having been keeper for two promotions and coach for one.

I actually cried when Idiakez missed the penalty in the play off semi. That game had everything, I felt every emotion throughout. But knowing my sons would get to see black and white flags at Wembley was amazing, never thought it would happen.

The Brighton play-off semi. The atmosphere was stupendous, like nothing before or since. It made this season’s match against Carlisle seem like a pre-season friendly. And that heel-flick by Will Hughes for the opening goal - WOW!!!

Plenty of joyous, but that tingle?
Going 3-2 up in the FA Cup at home v Wendies in 93, the Nicholson goal hit hard too, but taking the lead bought that tingle.
Jones freekick v Wendies (again) promotion season, I started to feel it was on.
That Birmingham game, in ground just before the match. Sorrow, pride, far too much emotion to handle. When the Beilik goal went in, it wasn't a tingle it was an emotional release.

I watched the BBC tonight for their screening of remembering D-Day, I was in Tears, Boys of 18 and others who never got to live their lives to the full, They thought it was their duty to join up and fight, For someone who has always had something to say about all things in life...I now find very difficult to explain how I feel...so The best I can do is.
