If you want to strike a note of optimism (I know, I know), I think only 11,000 turned up for Jim Smith's first game in charge, a 0-0 draw against Port Vale, it was all doom and gloom in those days as well, and look what happened out of the blue that season!! Even then, crowds were around 15-17k mark. I think it was only when we've been in the Prem that we suddenly began attracting north of £27k regularly.

The fact we've managed to sustain above 25k in the last few years of Championship football is a miracle. Perhaps we are about to see the settle back into a more "natural" level of attendance.

Capacity at BBG at last seasons was limiting factor. I know people who could not get tickets often.

Ideally they would at least have a printing facility at the ground as I don’t have a printer and don’t plan to get one just for this.

  2. CKR Breakthrough season, scores 22 league goals to fire the Rams into the playoffs.

Press say there is life the the old dog yet and Aston Villa rumoured to be interested.

Mr Pop from Bristol says he must be on performance enhancing medication and he should be lined up in front of Mel and bayoneted with a foot of cold steel.

  3. Trying hard to think of a lower point (I can go back to early Arthur Cox era) but can’t.

The on pitch side of things can change quite quickly sometimes but it is very unlikely to happen without the behind the scenes sorted.

Part of me thinks though that we were sooo ? at the end of last year it would be genuinely difficult to get worse. Get lucky with our meagre bargain buys + injuries + odd kid stepping up and we could easily be better. A 12+ points headwind would be terminal though.

I would be worried about a Davies/Jags combo in terms of pace…

Against a lot of champ teams it would not be too much of an issue. Probably not good enough for playoff team, but maybe fine for mid table.

  5. When was the last ditch date for releasing updated accounts?

    (How much window left after)

Guessing this could be the point at which umbongo will be lifted by? (Even if hit with 12 of the best points deduction)

  6. I’m hoping the pot is slightly bigger than that. If we are not confident of Umbongo being lifted before end of the window I would keep a slot open for a prem loaner at centre forward (prob youngster like delap) which probably will only be sorted late on.

My views are not dinosauristic! It’s nonsense, you have one team, it’s an unbreakable bond, no room for no second team to take over a piece of your heart.

    Bloody half fans.

Depends a bit on your journey to team 1?

For many your dad/grandad took you with milk crate to stand on so you have known nothing else.

For me, my dad wasn’t into football at all so I was influenced by friends. I think the friends influence would not happen on average at age 5ish, for me it was 11/12ish. This coincides with the Arthur Cox Div2 promotion series.

Before that point I had general interest based on what was on match of the day and Coventry city only as I was born there.

Once I had been to a few live games I was hooked and Rams only after this point.

As more I went to live games the less I was interested in TV games. (2020/21 I saw about 3 matches only)

So can someone list the squad available if the ‘Chorely’ players retain their professional standing and if they don’t?

If there are 4 available places in the squad then of the trialists / out of contracts I’m going for :-

    Stearman

    Jagielka

    Morrison

    Davis

We need another forward though so if not Baldrick then another not yet seen trialist needs to be found.

If the EFL do the right thing and exclude the Chorley game the we have 19 players of "professional standing".

Which 4 players would other people get signed up first if this were to happen?

    I'd go:

    Davies, Wisdom, Mengi & Baldock

... and so run with Cashin/J Brown as the 4th choice CB in the short term.

If Jagielcacaca looks fit I would take him vs Wisdom.  Seemed to me that more than fair share of errors came from Wisdom side last year. Be good if any stato’s could confirm this.

The transfer window for a free agent is in March/April, I believe, as long as they became a free agent during the actual transfer window.

We signed Joe Ledley before in Autumn time so I think it is all year round as long as your last point is true (FA before end of window).

  11. I have wondered about Bird at centre back.

Has the height and good left foot so similar to Clark in some ways.
Would need to work on heading & positioning but that is not the toughest skill set.

When I occasionally played at centre back rather than usual mid field I always thought it easier.

It is a mess. This is the third season running where our preparations have been completely disrupted by aspects outside of the managers control. If nothing else, that is more than enough punishment from the EFL.

I think we did well the previous season, but last season, everyone underperformed, from top to bottom. To make matters worse, the job done from external sources (the EFL) has also been rubbish.

This all leaves Rooney in the middle of potential disaster. What can he do? He was very lucky to get the job in the first place, he was lucky to keep his job (better performing managers have gone for far less). He is probably the manager most in need of support but he is getting none. These are not conditions to help a manager blossom. He doesn't have any previous performances to give him leverage. The only thing he has right now is that the club cannot afford to sack him. I am certain he believes he can be a success, yet I think he had an arrogance last season that let him down. I think Rooney knows his managerial career will not be tarnished with what happens here, I think it still remains a win win for him. If he makes something of this season he will deserve all the credit going.

We have to support him, we have to back him. I didn't want him, I thought he should have gone at the end of the season and I have minimal enthusiasm for this season. But right now, based on pure blind faith, I hope he aces it. Until any kind of takeover happens, this is what we have. Though I fear things could get nasty if we don't make a good start.

Do you mean nasty toward MM and the club? I think I am with you there.

I suspect/hope most fans will back and support the young kids doing their best even with the expected poor return on points. (Like we did with the rubbish 11 point prem team)

  13. In the “olden days” there were some teams had mixture of pro’s and some amateurs.

Wonder if after window is closed that you could offer an unpaid (shop window) arrangement to out of contract players who would not be able to do anything until jan.?

Probably EFL would reject it too anyway?

It’s absurd for us to be punished for fielding a team against Chorley.  But does anyone know what discretion the EFl has? Can they waive a rule?  or is a rule change needed and if so what does that take ? (I’m guessing it might take the support of a load of clubs that we have royally pi$$ed off)
ARE they being unprofessional and vindictive? Or are they just saying: them’s the rules and you know our constitution as well as we do so you know that our options are limited

    Good question..

I suspect when the (quite reasonable rule actually) rule was set, that it was not with last seasons ?in mind though.
