  1. For those they think we are doomed, how bad is people’s view of how bad we could be.

As bad as SW, Rovrum, Wycombe last year? All 3 of them came quite close to survival as we know.

Defence was not too bad last year with main criticism weakness in the air from corners. Experienced aged bodies more likely to help with that than up-coming potential. Should be “easy” to stay as bad as last year with recruitment and could be better.

Scoring goals we were utter ? last year. Quite hard to get worse? But could be very difficult to get better as good enough players (att mids and forwards costly).

So in summary I think we are probably likely to be equally as poor as the bottom 4/5 of last year (and hence be scrapping in it at last days) or a little bit better with some average recruitment (not stellar) and luck with injuries.

With Derby’s recruitment the problem is we actually need 8 or 9 new players to achieve the 3 players good enough to fill those positions. The rest will be jozefsoons or Blackmans or anyas or Ibes (mark 2).

Out of recruiting in last 12m is actually was not that bad. The worst signings were not costly mistakes which is key.

HIT = Byrne, CKR, Gregory, Clarke, Marshall

OK = Joz, Roberts, Mengi, Edmundson.

MISS = Te Wierik, Baningme, Ibe

  3. Not sure they have been good for boro particularly.

The winners are the “smaller” clubs who get to compete above their natural size by influencing the rules.

As there are more of these smaller clubs (all with voting power) it’s not a surprise that rules that suits them result.

Sorry mate I was just thinking out loud really and wondering what part of our current situation would make signing Gayle possible at all.

Think you are champagne shopping with a tap water budget, let alone lemonade budget.

Like the analogy. What player types are on the tap water budget?
Is CKR for example tap water or <tap water?

  5. Do you think that Mr Pop from Bristol could be dangerous? Wondering if I’m wearing my Derby shirt and I see someone looking Greek (and a little deranged) in a Bristol City shirt I should cross the road.

He’s looking in great shape and been back at it with a PT since mid June going off his social media account, big season needed from the big man!

I know you are not supposed to be able to teach an old dog new tricks, but if Rooney can work on CKR’s weaknesses just 10-20% then he will me a more than useful player next season.

A decent manager would get more out of the squad we had…

Don’t disagree, but that’s the past.

If we can’t give “the manager*” some backing for next season then it won’t matter much who it is.

*Rooney/Rafa/Steve Gritt & Alan Curbishley duo.
