I am, like many, no apologist for the EFL - they have consistently shown themselves to be incompetent - but they cannot 'just' be abolished.  They are a members' club whose rules and regulations are agreed upon by the members, so it is the members that will have to agree their abolition (and no doubt their rules will insist on a certain majority of members voting for such a change).  So replacing them with an 'independent regulator' or abolishing them is not likely to happen, nor to make that much difference in the short term even if it were to happen.
If, instead, you add an additional organisation - the independent regulator - you then have to ask and answer a whole series of other questions.  Does it regulate the amateur and the professional game (broadly the current job of the FA); does it regulate the EFL clubs and the PL clubs (thereby impacting the PL's role) or the EFL clubs only; which areas of football does it regulate - does it govern the rules of the game, for example, or just the financial management of professional clubs, does it govern the appointment of owners, does it negotiate TV and other contracts and the distribution of those monies, does it agree the FFP rules or the discipline of players or both; is it affiliated in any way to UEFA or FIFA - does it have to recognise UEFA and FIFA's roles in competitions and the way in which the game operates, for example, so if UEFA agrees a change in FFP rules across European clubs, does the regulator have to apply those rules?
We do have to have organisations that run the game - to agree fixtures, formally agree the seasons' outcomes by promotion and relegation, agree the rules of the game, appoint, manage and train referees/linos, discipline clubs and players etc etc.  If we have an independent regulator we have to decide whether they are the football equivalent of the Bank of England or the FCA or Ofsted or the General Medical Council or the Care Quality Commission - all of which operate in different ways in their fields - or something football specific.
The very best solution would be that the EFL becomes better at running the game, that its rules are better and applied better, that its senior executives are better in terms of the leadership and vision that they show, that they run the sport and their organisation better.  The reason that we are talking about an independent regulator at all is because they are currently broadly incompetent. But an independent regulator is not necessarily the whole answer, however much we dislike Parry and his incompetent fellows. They may not even be a better answer.

For some extraordinary reason EFL are reading and responding to the messages. EFL’s work on this saga is far from done, so the channel to Parry’s office is a real opportunity for fans to influence how the club is treated in the coming weeks. So it’s a shame so many of the messages to Parry are spleen venting unguided missiles. We’d benefit the club if we could coordinate the emails and make them more focused

Derby have dealt with Boro without fighting a legal battle or having to pay for one.
Even if that feels a bit like a hollow victory, I will take it.
Hopefully derby can beat boro on the pitch.

    Agreed ?
When I look at Wycombe, I see a club that was promoted in a dubious manner from league one (efl fault for the way their promotion was calculated, the season ending early due to covid).
Then I also see a club wanting to blame us for their season of poor performances, they weren't strong enough to compete in the Championship.
Now to try and get money due to losses sustained when they were relegated, they have unfairly targeted derby due to their belief that they wouldn't have been relegated if derby resubmitted accounts earlier than deadlines for resubmitted accounts given to derby by the efl.

I read it before, but haven't taken it in until now that Wycombe is partly fan owned.  I wonder what those 1000 fan owners think?

The interview in September 2021 said using EFL's preferred amortisation method (straight line) .. a caveat  BBC seem to have omitted , we would [possibly] incur a 4 point penalty (which is not automatic, but subject to us being charged by EFL for failing FFP, which we hadn't been.. and presumably assuming no mitigating factors which have to be decided) . So how does Couhig think a points penalty could have applied in 2020-21? season.?

If Ashley has pulled out then it’s classic Mike Ashley. He’s low balling. Seeing maybe some weaknesses in the other bids. If he really wants Derby he will come back in later but clearly he doesn’t feel it’s worth paying the current price.
I think Ashley would be the best owner of the lot, but if we get him then it will because the other bids didn’t get over the line, we would also either be in a -15 points scenario next season, or even liquidated with some deal with the EFL (which he might strike) that we start again in League two. While Mel wants £20m to pay off MSD I don’t think Ashley will buy us so he’ll come back in if we are truly desperate.

    We will see what transpires.

There's a work around here for MM and Derby, there's nothing to stop him undertaking the following ...
    1. Agree to pay Derbys legal fees for a court case against m/w
    2. Agree to pay any legal costs that arise
    3. Sign a contract for this with Derby, stating that the legal fees to be given by mm are only for that purpose and not to prolong the survival of the club which is dependent on a new buyer being found. That the money is only applicable for an long as Derby shall remain a club, in case it goes into liquidation,  why continue the case.
This would negate mm not being able to stand in for Derby in the way he currently has preposed.
Let the potential buyers know he's doing this, with a contract stating the removal from them of legal liability for m/w cost.
Let the efl know that Derby wish to proceed in this way, requesting that under these circumstances, Derby be allowed to progress with the sale.

All anyone needs to say on this, aside from all context and feelings on Mel is:
Thanks Mel. Thanks for doing that. Morally, some will say you had no choice but legally you probably didn't have to do that.
    So thanks.

In an ideal world I'd agree with you.
    That's semantics.
All im saying is that rhe efl doesn't lose many arbitrations.
From the efl statement, I've reason to believe that they've taken the side of m/w and an estimated thar 7 million will resolve things.
In my opinion, thats like saying that the judge has sat before the trial.
There's no jury in an efl arbitration, and any experts must be called from the efls own selective list.
If I were Derby I'd prefer a court case, but I'm guessing the reason that they haven't is because don't have the funds for that and in any case the only expedited route is via arbitration.
While it's possible to appeal the result of a court case, there are very few grounds under which the result of an arbitration car be appealed.
